Dead servers - an idea

It is clear that Blizzard are not offering free transfers for those on dead realms. On the other side there are people not wanting to lose a name they have had since day one.

I propose an idea. The revival project. (Just a name atm feel free to throw around ideas).

Low population realms are marked with a star and a tooltip that offers 10-15% more rep, gold drops and experience.

People from the community that are willing and known for being helpful (maybe we could vote?) could be marked ingame as revival champions (on the map/in chat - could be turned off if break needed), helping get guilds up and running, and helping new players with WoW related queries.

Players participating & revival reps that have the goal of making a server great again, could both earn titles and achievements and possibly cosmetic rewards, mount, pet tabard - that sort of thing.

Special events could run on the server that scale rewards based on how many participate, there could be a schedule so people could find out where to be and when.

Once a server has reached it’s goal of becoming well populated, the xp/rep/gold gains would be only on for those who took part during the revival process.

More could be added but it is just an idea. Please keep responses constructive and no flaming :purple_heart:

literally didn‘t see a single horde player on my layer in nazjatar and mechagon. not even during the pvp event.

You raise a great point there. Rep/gold/exp should be slightly higher for the lower faction side if the imbalance is great.

This honestly sounds like a wonderful idea if people were up for it to help out those that struggle to play on a dead realm but sadly I think some people might not be 100% on board with this because let’s just say some of the community will only be self-centered in a way and won’t bother but those who do help can receive good achievements and rewards for helping others out.

I am worried that kind of system would make people nomads moving from low pop server to another reaping benefits, fixing the problem only temporarily or moving the problem from server to server.

I would just keep it simple. Make auction houses and guilds region wide. What server you are in would have no effect at all, because you could guild up with anyone you want and trade with whole EU. Sharding would keep maps populated.

I’m for this. Frostmane shall rise again.

Radium my freunde while that sounds like another wonderful solution to the issue it still begs the question does Blizzard have the technology to make it happen?.And her idea while it’s good sadly you are right some people can just abuse it just to get those rewards while they pretend to care about others.

I also wonder if they have tech or if it is even possible to make tech for it. Many other games do but it naturally does not mean it is possible with wow tech. Idea of the rewards is also nice but i can’t help of thinking people would just move to get the benefits not to help, and then they would move again when benefits are elsewhere. Locking the benefits just for people who participated (i assume this would mean everyone who have been playing on server while revival events was on) would make the server not interesting for newcomers and when population would naturally decline server would get low again.

Server populations fluctuate. I remember when we had free transfer away from Dragonblight (i think to Veknilash) and now we are low pop realm. I remember old times when some servers were full because they had some famous guilds on them and after those guilds moved those server went low pop. And so on. We have this saying in Finland “Ei kannettu vesi kaivossa pysy” (water that is carried into well does not stay in the well) and i think it is unfortunately true with server populations as well. There would need to be some sort of technical and more permanent solution, if they only could build the tech.

People would have to pay real money for that though, and who would seriously do that when they could just buy a token or a boost?

Only low pop servers would have the benefits active. Although it could benefit existing players it would be an attractive option for new players who start with nothing.

This was a soloution I thought of to avoid real money being involved, because I do not think it is fair for people stuck on low pop realms to have to pay money to get off a dying server. So the next best thing is find a way to bring those servers back to life.

I think the best solution is still realm merges but i can live with that as a temporary fix, until something better comes up.

15% extra: Gold, Reputation and Experience would do, for now.
Atleast we wouldnt feel abandoned in a barren wasteland.

They can’t do this without people losing their names, I saw a few people mention this in the past.

I would go to a dead realm to help people and also enjoy the side benefits… hell I may even make some new friends!

I can understand that being a problem to alot of players (me included) but there are solutions for the name issue, like surnames etc

Yeah I mentioned that, but they didn’t seem to like it :frowning:

Well yes some people may lose their names sadly but I am not opposed to the idea of helping other people in need on dead realms who knows we might get new friends who are like you and me :+1::grin::kissing_heart: and we are already good bros.

Why would they? Now you can do everything cross-realm. Thats the first problem you need to solve I think.

Until we can have total cross realm guilds I don’t think much of it. Sure you can have communities, but it just isn’t the same and guild achievements cannot be earned that way.

What about forming good guilds and friendships… having fun with people from your own server?

computer says no

Well that’s all fine and dandy to most of us but some people have gotten used to being a lone wolf kind of players because that’s how they got used to playing sadly.

I have talked a lot about how realms are good for MMO RPGs but realms are irrelevant at the moment so first we need to make them relevant and then think how to populate deserted realms. As of now, this Almost doesn’t matter.

Well this is for friendly people like you and me Hali who love to help others, & for people who would love to be in an active guild but can’t because their server is dead
