IMO retail won’t be crippled, those who prefer it will stay in it. And after the initial Classic + hype dies out, those ppl will go back to retail.
Plus, $30 for the new race, suppose many more paid products in the future, ex-private server players will sub (either because they want to, or because those servers are shut down one by one)…all in all, financial gains for Blizzard. So let them milk this until they can, no big deal.
As about the emotions, true, first experiences can’t be replicated with more classics, but if we think of it, they can’t be replicated with anything.
I still don’t understand what is so special about Forever. From all the announcements it seems to me like game a created for MS to have some XBOX game version from the WoW universe.
Retail is fine, it is evolving and is a different game now, but still like it so much that for me it is unthinkable to start playing anything else incl. Blizzard games from the same franchise.
I only have that much free time to spare on gaming and from all the options available retail is the king.
New quests. This will be my main goal. I played the old vanilla and new cata quests in old world so many times im getting sick of it.
New questlines and new zones are always appreciated. If they will be trash.. thats it.
Ill always play retail
As a 20 year veteran myself, I’ve seen them go forward… And at this point, It’s time to start going back. I’m personally tired of this Cosmic Circus and the way they have neutered the world be removing all the mystery from it.
We kill all the Four Old Gods.
The Burning Legion use to be this endless mysterious army, threatning the cosmos itself. Then we beat it.
The Realm of Death was revealed, which just makes hundreds of other things not make sense.
Althought the game still treats us like we’re just some average adventure, you can ask to go sweep the floors for a quest. We’re literally a force strong enough to change the future of the cosmos, and it just feels… So disconnected.
It won’t be crippled but it may have a noticeble dip temporarerly .
Many will go over and play for while. It will be no different to classic when it launched and as soon as they start to miss LFG, flying etc they will come back. Some may stay and play it mostly at season end in down time or when they have achieved in retail what they want. Unless forever offers something extraordinarly unique to retail and eventually allows collectibles to be carried over - the landscape may change then.
Obviously people change over 20 years, that doesn’t mean the community magically ceased to exist.
If the people who miss that experience are still around, then they are part of the community. The fact that they’re older, have different priorities, or don’t behave like their 20 year old selves doesn’t make them incapable of forming a community again.
You can’t recreate being 20 years younger, but you absolutely can recreate the social aspects that people actually miss… playing together, making friends, guilds, server identity (Forever is realmless), helping strangers, etc.
“Those people have changed” isn’t really an argument against WoW Forever. If anything it’s an argument for giving those people somewhere to build a new community.
And, ofc, there’ll be those wanting to experience something different to retail at a leisurely pace.
might be some of the same people but if it changes then that still counts as a changed community .
people trying to relive the same kind of magic is at best a pipe dream .
people said same thing about classic versions when they came .do look at the result of it . forever wont be any different . you cant change mentality of people when that crowd has already become used to it.
but if you want to live in that bubble .more power to you
