Death Knights and Banshee's/Sprectre's

Simply question;

Can a Death Knight be both a Spectre/Banshee and a Death Knight?

I know of the existence of “Sioux the Banshee” in Acherus, but it feels more like a title then her actually being a Banshee…

But one could assume that if a Dark Ranger(the original High Elven ones) is basicly a Banshee inhabitating her old body again, it should technically be possible for a Banshee to become a Death Knight by inhabitating her old body?

I think the comic Dark Mirror, and the ritual Nanthanos undergoes in that comic, should make such an powerfull combination possible?

And lets not forget with how powerfull the Banshee-Queen Sylvanas Windrunner, once a normal Banshee, has become… A Banshee becoming something again to a Death Knight shouldn’t be that much of a stretch?

Anyhows, I was wondering what you guys thought of it?

I’m not so sure on this one. I like the idea, tbh! But i’d be very careful if trying to carry it out.

You are right that Sioux the Banshee could just as well be a title and not an actual Knight Banshee, because if you think about it, Sioux could just be using the definitions of a Banshee to personify them rather than being actually one. Things like Beauty in death and stuff for example.

Yea, I like the idea to and I was wondering about it because I got that toy from Darkshore which allows me to turn into a Spectre, so it got me wondering! And like you, I am not really sure about if it was possible, so I thought I’d ask on the lore forums from people who have a better understanding of it then me! :stuck_out_tongue:

Yea, basicly; I mean People in WoW use titles for everything without actually being that thing! So I wanted to include her, without relying solely on the character for wether it would be possible or not! :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually She was a Banshee queen from creation, and was already back then a lot more powerful than your average Banshee.
So, a complete normal Banshee she’s never been.

As for your Question.
Anyone can become a death Knight.
So, yes a Banshee can too but would likely take a lot more power than your Average Death Knight Creation

Meaning you’re not dealing with your Average Banshee Anymore.

Do you have a source for this? Because the reason, I thought, she is called Banshee-Queen, was because she became the leader of the Free-Willed Undeath, before that she was just a normal Banshee like the many Kaldorei and Quel’dorei women before and after her! :open_mouth:

I think Sylvanas and Siouxsie the Banshee were raised into undeath as normal banshee’s, who found their free will/previous corpse perhaps(??) like other night elf and high elf women before and after them.
Sioux is just a reference to a goth band, but I think she should have been placed within the Alliance and given more story.

I don’t believe either were a special case because upon death, Sylvanas was just Ranger General. It would be like Arthas killing Shandris and raising her into undeath…just a Ranger Captain/General and nothing more, nothing less.

the Arthas Novel I believe states it when she mass murders defenders of Azeroth through Screaming.

Ahh I see, it appears its time for me to order that novel since I am missing out on Lore and it appears to be a pretty good read! Thanks alot!

Thats the part I am not sure about, because if Sioux is a normal Banshee-turned-Death Knight, then it should be possible to RP a Spectre/Banshee being a Death Knight. The only indication that Sioux is a Banshee is her title, which as Orig and I stated before, might just be a title she earned instead of het actually being a Banshee…!

And I do hope that the Kaldorei Banshee in service of the Scourge and Forsaken did not find their bodies, since they have been Banshee’s since the War of the Ancients… So there shouldn’t be any body left. And the new generation of Kaldorei Dark Rangers get raised from the grove, instead of having the Banshee’s enter their old bodies.

That would explain it, I suppose, such a shame as it could’ve brought more lore into the Ebon Blade and the reasons and powers of Spectre’s and Banshee’s!

I would like to agree on this, but if the Arthas novel says otherwise, I assume Sylvanas was more then a normal Banshee!

Personally I doubt it. I think they are two different things entirely, and work differently, their powers are different in nature, Banshees Including Sylvanas, seem to have much more Shadow related powers, as opposed to Unholy Blood and Frost. Now those are game mechanics, but it does very much seem like a Death Knight’s Spirit is bound to its body, unlike that of a Banshee. Now the interesting question is, Is it only Sylvanas who can do her Banshee thing still? We never see any other Dark Ranger able to do this, after possessing their own body, and if we’re being technical about it, what we see in the BfA trailer is not a Banshee power. Banshee’s possess their bodies (or those of others) Sylvanas outright ditches hers to use her Scream ability. There is no body for her to possess, even hers…she just reforms.
We never see any other Dark Ranger do that.

The other question is, if she can do that at will, then why make herself vulnerable at all? If she can just zip around the battlefield screaming and killing people, then…why doesn’t she? I mean that would be a hell of a battle winner?

From that we can hypothesise that she can’t do it for long, it takes effort, and is a last resort. I mean why not do it in her fight with Genn? Why not in her fight with Malfurion? Perhaps other Banshee’s simply are not powerful to do it once they become a Dark Ranger, or else why aren’t they all zipping around killing with ease?

A Dark Ranger is essentially Undead, so one turned into a Death Knight, assuming it were even possible, basically would be an Undead Death Knight, not a Death Knight/Dark Ranger crossbreed. It might still look Elven, but it is essentially an Undead Death Knight.

Nathanos is a special case (In more ways than one :stuck_out_tongue: ). There isn’t really a name for what he is, he’s not a Death Knight, and he’s not a Dark Ranger.
We know he was human, and male, therefore cannot be a Banshee. In any case we know he didn’t re inhabit his body, he never left it, it was the standard male Forsaken. That’s all he was, a Forsaken Hunter. As such, he does not class as a Dark Ranger. He also is not a Death Knight, he is no longer in his own body. We don’t even know if Sylvanas’ Val’kyr have the Power to create new Death Knights, We know Bolvar and the Deathlord can.

I’m sure there is a name from Fantasy mythos for what he is, its on the tip of my tongue, Basically a soul in a dead body that is transferred to another dead body…though not by their own ability… Anyway, he is neither a Dark Ranger or a Death Knight, he’s the only one of whatever he is, and apparently his creation was extremely taxing on the Val’kyr.

That is a definite reference to the Goth band Siouxsie and the Banshees, and not the only one, Blizz obviously have one of their fans writing NPC’s and Quests, a couple of the bands songs are quest titles, ‘Face to Face’ and of course the finale of the Silverpine quests “Cities in Dust”.

Good band to be honest…

I believe she stumbled upon the ability during the Novel Storm Rage.
And likely developed it there not to mention it likely takes a lot out of her to enter this Stage as seen how in the Bfa Intro, she’s visibly shaking from using it.

And from what we know’
Her scream seems to be of short range.

It is also likely that if she keeps it for too long, she might be rendered unable to combat.

Hm…I wouldn’t think so, banshees and Death knights are created…Differently, wasn’t it that Sylvanas became a banshee from the sorrow she felt when her soul felt the great sadness? Click for rockstar sliding Sylvanas
While DKs are kinda forcefully ressurected and kept alive with some magic of sorts? But if we look at some rare and unique cases like Lothraxion and other similar NPCs, it seems plausible with odd combinations.
