Death threats for killing bots in-game

I just recently watch a yt video where a guy explains that he helped create a movement that would target and kill in-game bots and in turn received death threats for his actions. This brings the defilement of in-game botters to a new level.

I think most people can agree, that bots have been the real scourge in this game for a long time. However!

Death threats for killing in-game bots. Let that sink in! We are dealing with something related to the game, that has nothing to do with the game, beyond making money, that we all love and play for enjoyment.

Blizzard has a history of dealing with in-game brutality and bad karma. A history that I endorse whole heartedly. Though I have myself been frustrated when at times when my skills or groups have been challenged beyond their means, I have never been banned or anything related. (I my memory at least, 20 years is a long time).

There is no room for bullying, misdirected rage or THREATS! In this game, or at least, there shouldn’t be. I understand that these death threats come outside the game, and are way out of the control of Blizzard. However! This game has created the space where these so called people subside.

I think it is time for Blizzard to take the small cuts in profits that dealing with the botting problem in the game may inflict. We are no longer talking about AH prices or multiboxing herb pickers lagging up servers. We are talking about the safety of long standing players who have been a part of this games succes for a generation!

Blizzard. Do the right thing. Be the beacon in the MMO community that finally takes real action against these mafia tactics in the free-time game that we simple folks enjoy.

Pardon my English.

I doubt , i got 3 days suspended for saying the name of the bots in the forums (there is already a video with them )

  • Remember that you may not name/shame players on the forums and swear*

The post got flag and got 3 days suspended because
I did write the name of the bot and not even using any bad words ).

Blizzard is a company and they care only of profit.

The person in question may need to report this to the police, if necessary they will contact Blizzard from there on for additional details.

Blizzard has no authority over off-platform threats.

Can you link that video please? Id like to watch it.
Edit: mhm found it.

I’m no sure I can post links here? I any case, if you search for “This will be my last video”. You’ll find it on yt. Asmongold has also made a related reaction video on the same plaform.

I just watched it and i have a hard time deciding what i think without seeing even an ounce of proof.
The video provides absolutely 0 proof, simply words and accusations.
Maybe its true? Maybe its not? This video cannot be used to find out anything about that.

Are we putting up a courtroom or trying to get rid of bots in a game? Do we need further proof to take action against bots? What is your point?

As you can see on yt, bots have become a million dollar business. Is it so crazy to think that disruption of that model can lead to that kind of unpleasantness?

The anti-botting actions will continue as usual.

Meh. Too little. Way too little.

What i am doing is keeping a neutral stance here. Botting is bad, yes. Accusing people of making death threats is worse, however. Until i see proof i wont believe it.
Innocent until proven guilty, you know what that means right?

No one is accusing anyone specific. There is no single guilty party beyond a segment that is already doing harm to the game and violating the terms of agreement. All that is being done, is someone stating that dealing with the issue of botters by players them selves can lead to bad consciences. I don’t need more proof to believe that when there is so much money being made.

Ah, OPs learning how corrupt humans brains work…

Death threats from ill minded people when you try to manipulate their criminal actions is nothing unusual.
Especially in the digital realm.
When someone actively hunts and kills bot characters (let’s give them the benefit of the doubt they are capable of telling the difference betwen a bot and a player) they have to keep in mind that criminal botting communites will in regard hunt them ingame.

Not to mention that hunting and killing bots does not have the slightest impact on botters besides some minor inconvenence and pulling their attention onto yourself, compared to ban waves from Blizzard.

Anyway: recieving death threats on online platforms can be brushed of easily, !!!BUT!!!, as there is !!!ALWAYS!!! still a chance of a real threat, one who is threatened should always take it to the police.

But to think those actions do ANYHTING in this never ending Don Quijote Windmill fight is very, VERY naiv.
WoW does not have an extraordinarily problem with bots not more than other games.
Bots in games are a general ever growing problem, but no one can do anything 100% effective against this, as any action, any system, any protection against them will be bypassed by them at some point.

Lets keep it on WoW.

Saying we can deal with the problem 100% was never stated in this post. But, doing a lot more to combat the problem is what I wish.

Thats fine, im not gonna sit here and try to tell you otherwise. Im not going along with it though.

I’m not sure what you are even doing here. Defending botters?

Aaaand there it is. I knew that this was coming.

No. Show me where i am defending botters? You better have proof before you come here and accuse me of something.
What i said is that video proves nothing. Absolutely nothing. Nothing at all.
So until i get shown actual proof of death threats being made, that video remains what it is: empty words.

If to you that means i support botters, you know what, you are free to believe whatever you want, it really doesnt even matter to me. I tried to explain this to you using logic, but people watching youtube videos will believe anything they are told these days.

I can’t even imagine how much money those gold sellers running those bots make but death threats? Jeez.

But you are defending them. I’m not sure that you understand the difference between the real world and a video game forum? We are not talking about putting people in prison or canceling people for their actions, moral or immoral. We are talking about experiences of people trying to deal with an already illegally abusing segment of a game. And using that experience to advocate for action against those.

Show me? Show me words that defend botting.
Show me or stop accusing me of things i didnt say.

Bots are bad.
Videos claiming deaththreats were received without any proof are bad.

If i make a video claiming i got an email from the Unicorn mafia for stealing their Silver dust, are you going to believe them as well?

If there are indeed death threats, this guy wouldve gone to the police and wouldve been able to show documentation that this was the case.

Doing WAHT exactly to combat them? Killing them does not affect them. Not long enough to have any sort of negative impact on them.

as a player to effectively do ANYHTING to harm them even the slightest, besides reporting them.
