Delve 5-man surprised me

I was joining a group for Delve 8 bountiful with the format 1-1-3.
After we entered the tank left without a word.
The healer invited a dps and said we were fine.
I joined as a retribution paladin (another char) and healer said I was gonna lead.
To my surprise he had no problem healing me throughout the entire delve.

I don’t understand… Someone explain to me why I see all these 1-1-3 formats in LFG for delve 8, and yet this run went so smooth.

You don’t need tanks for most delves.

Shock you also don’t need healers.

Set your man Brann as a healer and run 5 dps.

It’s usually:

  • Tank have superior self-healing, meaning less “risk” and attention needed from tanks
  • The main reason is aggro. No one likes to DPS 3 mobs standing 15 yards from each other, just because ranged likes to stay ranged.

When you went, you could not pull as aggressively as you would have wanted.

If you go with a tank, the tank literally pulls the whole delve, you AoE down everything and you are done in less than 2 minutes. That is why people want tanks. And that is something a DPS cant do.

I agree - the purpose of a tank isn’t to do damage, it is to hold the attention of the pack whilst dps kill without risk of damage, BUT - this is forgotten in the modern iteration of the game - and became lost even in classic - where damage became more important than focus

In retail it seems speed is more important

As I understand it the multiplier for aggro is currently set at x6.5 for tanks - dps forget this
