Delves are still terrible with a group (post-hotfix 14.09)

I get that it was meant as solo content, but even after the hotfix this morning, Delves are still absolutely miserable to do in groups. Doing them alone, especially as a tank, is fine.

But bringing friends just makes the experience worse, to the point where I feel like I am basically boosting people if they join me.
Take “The Waterworks” for example. The totem mechanic is so much worse with a group, because each totem is shared and the group needs to be very close to whoever is carrying it, or you need to drop it roughly where everyone needs to be. When the stacks are getting below 50, it becomes much worse for everyone to dodge mechanics, because the circle gets smaller.

Another issue is the scaling. While the hotfix helped a lot for tanks, I still see dps specs without a lot of self sustain have big problems with unavoidable damage. You can’t interrupt every single fireball from Kobalt Mystics. Not to mention Burn Away from Waxface. I was playing my druid and if it wasn’t for my off-heals, my shaman buddy would have died 3-4 times. It also takes forever to kill any elite mob in there.

I don’t understand what your goal actually is with delves? If it’s meant to solo, it sucks to do them for most dps specs. If you want it to be casual group content, the current experience is still miserable and you’re basically punished for bringing friends. As it stands right now, I wouldn’t bother to play delves at all if I didn’t have the option to do them as a tank, preferably alone.

The content has lots of potential, but it really needs more tuning passes for non-tanks, and some mechanics need to work better with groups.

I did all of them in a group and solo post hotfix and we must be playing a different game. I had a lot of trepidation after hearing all the horror stories on here and we had perhaps 3 deaths in 4 delves in a party of 5 - all to standing in telegraphed bad stuff.

So get a healer in the group or make Brann a healer. This isn’t aimed at you but I’m so tired of the “impossibru too much damage!” narrative. Every class has a toolkit that can help them live through this stuff. It’s a wow staple - a big aoe nuke once every 30 sec or minute. Astral shift / earth ele / health pot. There, you’ve survived 3. Not complicated.

Yes, we must be playing a different game because my experience soloing as a tank vs going with a group, is not even remotely close in terms of speed or difficulty. Playing in a group felt like adding 1-2 tiers of scaling, and some of the mechanics do not work well with more people, like the totems in Waterworks.

Then again, I only play tanks so I probably shouldn’t bother wasting energy on posting about something that doesn’t affect me that much.

With what gear and what Delve Tier? I doubt that 600 item level players on Tier 8 have problem, regardless of their class. I am managing myself on a 596 druid.

I was able to solo-clear a t8 on my VDH at 567ilv before the hotfix, although I had to skip the mini-boss, but still I think solo vs group is not balanced atm. Or tanks vs other specs for that matter, but I guess it’s hard for Blizzard to balance since there is such a big gap between the tanks in terms of self sustain.

I think they also should consider adding in a recommended level for Brann when you select a tier. I have him at level 23 or something now and while he’s still dumb as a brick, he randomly hits mobs for 4-8 million which helps a lot.

Yeah, I will have retract my statement. It was made hastily. It’s not even the spec that is the problem, but specific delves.

They need to tune events (ambushes especially) and bosses/rares so that they are doable by all classes, because at the moment, for some, some of these events and bosses are plain impossible, regardless of gear.
