Currently incapacitating roar is a standard ability for guardian druids and demoralizing roar is a PvP talent. While incap roar CCs targets in melee range for 3 sec - demo roar reduces damage done by 20% of all enemy 's to you for 8 sec.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to switch these two, or to make some changes on the talent tree for guardians? Damage reduction makes more sense in PvE and CCing makes more sense in PvP.
So i have a few options that we could go for to change this:
Make incap roar a PvP talent for guardians and keep it a free-gained target for balance/resto/feral druids that pick guardian affinity. Make demo roar a base ability, but only for guardian druids.
Rework the level 25 talent row for guardians. Swap tiger’s dash for incap or demo roar, and make either demo or incap roar a base ability for guardian druids only, depending on what ability has replaced tiger’s dash.
But I don’t like it at the same time. I quite like to use Incap roar for some things like hard-resetting an entire pack being so-and-so troublesome. But I guess i’d get more mileage out of a PvE Demo Roar.
I think we all agree no one takes tiger’s dash as guardian, thats why i suggested to replace that talent (option 2) for demo roar (and still keep incap roar baseline for guardian druid).
In that case you can add tiger’s dash to PvP talents, but that wouldn’t make sense to me. I think the remaining guardian PvP talents are good enough but ofcourse if you would place demo roar on first place talent row level 25 you would need a new PvP talent to replace demo roar.
Tanks aren’t just about damage reduction. Incapacitating Roar allows a druid tank to interrupt abilities on thrash mobs where you might want to interrupt multiple mobs, the ability isn’t interruptable by normal interrupts or where an extra interrupt might make a difference because the ability has a cooldown for the trash mob so it can’t use it again for a short while after you Incap Roar it.
Examples:
Shackled Souls in the beginning of the lich wing in ToP.
Frostbolt Volleys on mages in Necrotic Wake
Multiple Drain Fluid-casts in Necrotic Wake
Loyal Beasts in Halls of Atonement
Gluttonous Ticks Engorge in Sanguine Depths
Curse of Supression in Sanguine Depths
Atal’ai Devoted in the Hakkar wing of DOS
Defenders of Many Eyes bulwark-ability in Plaguefall
Stealthling ambush in Plaguefall
The large Etherdiver groups in SOA
Maze packs in MoTS (if you get rooted and caught in a flurry, and don’t want to risk shapeshifting)
Demo Roar just seems like a poor mans Barkskin to me, although it does have the advantage that you can help out another tank in raids.
To be honest, i like Bigbites recommendation of swappnig it with Tigers Dash more.
