Hello guys. I completed this on legion. Now i don’t even have idea how to survive first phase. What to do lol.
play tank challenge and ez reward
Take the leech talent (Soul Rending), get as much leech on your gear as you can, spec Demonic Appetite (for extra consume soul healing).
Hello Tyuu,
There is many things you can do to make this fight somewhat easier if you wish.
First i would want to go over what talents i used.
- Demonic Appetite for sustainability in Phase 1. It’s easy to harvest a lot of orbs by killing the crystals spawned by Comet Storm
- Insatiable Hunger for gaining fury when needed. Demon blades is not good since it can render you fury starved for long time if it does not proc.
- Glaive-tempest over Unbound-chaos due to the mobility aspect for both Phase 1 and Phase 2. If you feel confident you could go unbound chaos and doubble jump when razor ice hits and fel rush over the ice to break it and spawn lots of souls fast but i found it better with Glaive tempest for the whole fight.
- Soul Rending for the sustain that will greatly help you survive throughout this challenge.
- Cycle of hatred so you can spam chaos strike and lower cd of Eye Beam.
- Fel eruption since it will be utilized as an extra interrupt.
- Demonic for obvious reasons.
I strongly suggest using a addon to see timers of the fight. Like Deadly boss mods. Generally i prefer Big Wigs but i am not sure if it has timers for mage tower fights?
If you hold your Glaive tempest and use it right before Razor ice is cast it will do damage to the ice when you are stunned and will make it easier to doubble jump and get out of the aoe.
Always try to interupt and a good thing is also to try bring boss close to the middle.
This might take some practise but not many know that the big orb in the middle doesnt do any damage. So doubble jump and fel rush over it during first part in phase one makes it easier also. It is only the 4 lines that do damage. If you feel you need more healing interupt the boss and bring him closer to the ice you got out of. when he got close i ran through him and turned around and Eye beamed him and also hit the ice behind him. If you get the hang of this you can kill some ice in the same time as you hit the boss leaving many souls lying on the ground. And when the boss moved you can decide if you want to take detour over those souls or just rush to where boss is currently standing.
Try to have the boss close to middle when the first part of phase 1 is over and he teleports away to the edge of platform and you need to get to him fast. I prepositioned myself so i was standing with my back against the middle orb like 5 yards from it or so.
So when he teleported i did a single jump and then used Vengeful retreat to backflip over the orb in middle. This will make it a lot easier to then when you are on the other side to turn quickly and fel rush twice to him and reach him. You can pretty much say that if you dont reach him its a wipe. If you have hard time seeing the boss i suggest you look at the minimap. It will show a yellow dot where he is. So i used that to navigate myself of where to rush.
I know some classes kill the mages in the bubbles and back in legion it was easier to do this as Havoc and get some respite and take it slow to him. In this new Mage tower his frost bolt hits like a truck and i dont think that is a good strategy for Havoc now. Its to easy to get pushed out of a bubble and thats then a wipe.
When you reach the boss in this part of the fight the most important thingis to interrupt the cast of draw power. Failing to do so will result in boss buffing himself and increasing his damage done by 10% per stack, almost guaranteeing a failed attempt. 1-2 stacks can be survivable but i leave that for you to figure out if you failed to interupt in time and it might be better to just wipe right away and start over or not. So dont use your Disrupt for anything in this part of the fight so you have it for sure ready to interupt his draw power.
After a little while he will go back to the first part of this phase with casting frostbolts and razor ice. Here it can be good when you rush towards him to use your Imprison cage when you are in range. You can even just stand couple of seconds there next to him caged if you have some cd:s you want to tick out like Eye Beam for example. You can be low in Hp here and its kinda nice to be able to Eye beam him right away after cage breaks and this will make it easier to keep you HP high if you take a couple of seconds extra here if needed.
What is important now is to try to use your disrupt here to silence him and run towards middle. Since boss is silenced he will move after you untill he can cast again. If you get this part right you will be with the boss close to the orbs again so when razor ice hits you can get out and reach him with 2x Fel rush. Otherwise it can be really hard to survive getting to him. He teleports to the edge almost every time from now on after he casts his razor Ice.
The fight will continue like this with razor ice type of fight and the teleport and bubbles so you have to reach him type of fight where he will cast draw power untill he reaches 10% HP.
Hope this can help you some with part one of the fight. Can continue later with phase 2 if you wish.
But maybe you feel you can not survive anyway. He destroys you with frost bolts anyway. Now we get into the fancy stuff that can help you make this fight easier if you wish.
What many dont know/think of is that the old enchant Crusader (This might have been nerfed so siphining enchant could be better to use. Ty Hellgauntir for the update) is super strong as a heal during this part of the fight. But yeah now you probably shake your head wondering if im insane. This enchant gives Srength buff and its useless for us. This doesnt matter. We use it for the heals you proc with it. The tricky part is that Crusader need a weapn that is max item level 50. A easy way to get weapons that you can do this on is if you still got Heirloom weapons you have not maxed out ranks on. If you take a heirloom sword and only rank it tolevel 3 it will have max level of 50 and Crusader can be put on it.
The really nice part is that you can later send theese weapons to a alt for leveling and get more use out of the enchants and the gold you spent to get them. They can cost a couple of thousand gold depending on server to get.
make sure to have other weapons to swtich to between the big phase 1 and 2. Here you should also use a skill book and retalent some. We can go into that later on.
But this is not enough you say. I still struggle with the fight
Need More Damage?
You can pretty easy get some more edge in the fight by running the Old Raid Siege of Ogrimmar in Mythic, Heroic and Normal mode and get armor and weapons with all from 1-3 socket slots. Main stats is priority and for secondary stats you aim for all in on Haste/Versa as secondary stats. Stat budget in this ilvl range of gear is so small. Best stat for more damage is always +Agility and you want to fill all theese gems. This gear will have much higher agility when doing Mage Tower then any shadowlands gear that gets down scaled.
Even some of the gear with intelect socket bonus works. Sure the bonus will be useless but maybe you were unlucky and only got armor in some slots with said bonus. The rest of the stats are fairly similar on thjis gear so can be worth using it anyway.
If the armor has bonus for having correct color gems in it can be nice but if it requires anything else then red sockets to be activated the priority is anyway to use +Aglity gems.
There is also a cople of unique gems with main stats on them you can use if you wish. You can only use of theese each.
You can even go do Throne of thunder Mythic for gear. Sure it has only ilvl 41 but if youlook close on stats you will see that it wont matter so much. The difference is small compared to ilvl 50 Main stat is priority and with many socket slots some gear is better anyway. Like pants from last boss with 3 socket slots.
BFA Artifact gear can be used for head, Shoulder and chest also if you wish. best is the old high level ones around ilvl 120-130 None of the ring bonuses work and it has no secondary stats on it but the main Agility and Stamina stats are crazy high on theese. Here you have to experiment and see if you might want to use any of this together with the old raid gear in combinatrion getting higher main stats but loose out on Haste/Versa.
Even some weapons are good. For example the ilvl 45 swords From Mythic Throne of Thunder with a socket slot and +1 agility bonus works great as weapons to use in phase 2 with the Dancing Steel Enchants on them. (Boss HP 10% to =%)
Getting all this gear is not pointless as it might seem to be used for only 1 fight.
This gear is also great to get out of your storage/bank when it is timewalking week and you want to get those 5 old dungeons done as quick as possible for the weekly quest. You will easilly do 2-3 times higher damage then the rest in youre group. There is also a opportunity to do timewalking dungeons togehter with some of your guildies/friends crazy fast if you all five have similar gear. You can then farm boss kills/dungeons in speeds 2-3 times faster then using shadowlands gear. You could then try to farm for Timereaver mount togehter.
Below is a list with Enchants, gems and food that is best for timewalking.
Best Enchants to use is
- Neck - Mark of the Claw (Personally i dont think the Mark of Hidden satyr is any good anymore. Its nerfed to the ground so getting some extra haste will help you more)

- Chest - Enchant Chest Eternal Stats or Enchant Chest Glorious Stats (max ilvl 50)

- +31 Agility Primary Stat - Greater Flask of the Currents

I do hope all this might help you in some way. Sure you can do the fight without all this but just wanted to give you some alternative ways to maybe make it little easier fot you to get that nice looking Demonhunter Transmog and at the same time maybe get a great set for timewalking when its up. There is some more tweeks and stuff that can be done but think i covered some at least.
Have a nice day and good luck with your mage Tower Fight.
daily reminder that “I completed in legion (during antorus)” counts as “I completed it with 50ilvl overgear”
@Callizto: Great writeup and very similar to the WoWhead guide. The crusader enchant was heavily nerfed for mage tower. I don’t know if it’s still worth it tbh.
- Enchant Weapon – Crusader healing reduced by 86% and Strength reduced by 14%.
Oh, didnt know that hehe. Was a while ago we did that. So then Siphoning would be better maybe for some extra heal and thank you.
