So my question is: is it possible to change a demon’s view of the world? They were created to bring an end to everything and stop at nothing, but since we “ate” them, some of us and warlocks work with them, can they change with us? Or by us? Or they completely beyond redemption and should be eradicated?
Can demons change for the better if we help them and nurture them? Not saying to be Anduin-good, but become a bit more eager to experience things, not being an emotionally defective whatever. Same goes for the void: since not all of the void elves are evil or creepy or sell their “hugs” in all over the major cities, can they become a better version of themselves?
Considering that most demons seem to be other creatures from other worlds that have been juiced up with Fel, like Dreadlords, Eredar, and, well, Sargeras himself, I guess so? Especially considering that there are cases of cleansed demons like Lothraxion and that Satyr that was cleansed by Elune.
But since Fel itself twists the mind and makes you crazy and destructive, and the player warlocks and dhs are the exception to the norm, that’s so awesome that they can resist the influence of the magic… I doubt there is much chance of turning a Burning Legion demon without going cold turkey on Fel consumption. There might be strong-willed relatively “good” demons out there, though, just like Illidan essentially is.
Expanding a bit on Wimbert’s comment. It’s kind of possible to neuter a bit or at least buy the loyalty of demons, when you have a powerful enough arcane source they can feed on. Like Illidan did that’s the reason all his demons are blue.
Fully reforming them is likely impossible, because they’re by their nature chaotic entities representing an ultimately entropic force within the setting. For Warlocks it’s less of an if they become a demon and more of a when they become a fully fledged demon, as the Fel influence compounds within them.
I wasn’t thinking about fully make them good like pure babies, but to eventually have their own personality, make their own decisions… this is my biggest issue with the whole lore thing that it puts everything in the “good” or “bad” section and once you’re there there’s no turning back.
My idea is like a mutual respect that eventually changes both sides that changes them eventually. But this might be the biggest bs the lore community has ever seen
They do have their own personalities and are fully capable of making their own decisions. They didn’t follow Sargeras, because they were slaves, but rather because he was by far the most powerful and enabled to cause as much chaos as they wanted so long as it was at the expense of the Legion’s enemies.
Kil’jaeden spent the last 25k years on/off chasing Dreanei across the universe, because he felt betrayed by Velen, with whom he was very close previously. And with Sargeras out of comission who knows what they will do. Probably break up into independent warbands and do their own thing. Could be interesting, if nothing else.
We know a portion of Shivarra have joined the Illidari and are actively fighting the Legion. I can recall Matron Mother Malevolence saying something like “Destroying the entire universe sounds lame why the hell would I want to do that” which makes it pretty clear that demons (some species at least) can and will express personality traits and opinions that go against Sargeras’ will.
Maybe on that ground there’s a difference between “artificial” demons (species from the Great Dark Beyond that have been imbued with Fel power) and OG demons (species native to the Twisting Nether, which is the case for Shivarra if I’m not mistaken) ?
Yes, lesser demons like imps and sucubi are neutral/even friendly, imps are mostly annoying and sucubi are not realy type of demon that wants to bring destruction. Also most of these strong demons are not truly demons like imps, sucubi, felhunter. They might be just races sargeras empowered with fel like someone above me mentioned.
