Last week I decided to buy 5 12% mastery (had 2 12% haste) and decided to go all out on mastery with a heavy demon build (Vilefiend, Felguard talent, Demonic Consumption etc.)
I decided to do this because it “felt” like it could be good. Even with low mastery (but high versatility), with this build, i did good dps. Now I have around 85% mastery (42% haste). Did my full rotation and… wow. The damage was SO, BAD.
I changed it around and did the full rotation with just 22% versatility, almost same haste… (very low mastery) And its much, much better. But it doesn’t make sense. I say this because when i check the damage done by my demons, they do more damage compared to mastery build.
I think something is broken about the mastery tooptip. I mean it says “increases the damage done by your demons by 85%”. But 22% versatility makes my demons do more damage (which is a flat 22% damage increase on everything).
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Or am i missing something?
Edit: I tried this on dummies. I gather 5 shards, reset damage meter, summon the demons and stop (to see how much damage/dps ONLY my demons do).
Same I was disappointed tbh, from what I’ve seen this build is the best for m+ if you take big pack of adds but that’s all.
For pvp I’ve seen 1 demo lock at 2k6 playing with 80% since the beginning and it felt good from my pov because he stayed like that the whole patch (since vendor he is playing full versa).
From what I’ve tried before vendor was honed mind and the spike dmg was really good I could be around 105% mastery and the proc rating is really good.
keep in mind the stats do multiply with one another, and yo have a base % of mastery, so the overall gain is actually lower than it appears. This means mastery is usually at a disadvantage over the other stats, just because you already get a chunk of it.
I tried honed mind and I got around 22crit and a lot of mastery 110% when it proc, and I actually do really good dmg.
The proc seems to proc a lot of times and I can manage to do 300k+ crit bolt without vop often. In m+ I’m playing like that and I feel it is really good.
