Pretty sure it was.
If you think in pre legion logic it’s a harmless joke. Demon Hunters had Metamorphosis in WC3, and it has been one of their signature abilities, especially Illidan’s.

I didn’t play during WoD, that’s why I asked. It’s a rather cruel joke if they changed it in Legion.
Illidan had metamorphosis after he consumed Guldan skull power, so its was his maincore ability since WC3 before any WoW Demonology warlocks ever designed.
