Describing WoW in 1 word: Pointless

If I were to describe WoW in 1 word right now, it would be “Pointless”.

It feels pointless to farm gear because in 3 months it will all be irrelevant and replaced in next raid tier and catch up mechanics.

It feels pointless to beat the same bosses on 4 different difficulties.

It feels pointless to chat in a dungeon group, because you will never meet them again.

It feels pointless to grind Gold. There is nothing to do with it, and if I need it I can just pay money for it.

It feels pointless to level my professions.

There is a reason farming Transmog, Mounts, Pets and Achievents is so popular these days. It’s the only things that feels like an investment.

My word is futile

  1. Been like that forever.
  2. Don’t. You should focus on two tiers imo. For example if u do normal and HC. If you are mythic raider you stick to HC and mythic.
  3. Find a guild. Then you will meet them again.
  4. You can litteraly get game time from gold these days. Thats a big reason why you would want to farm gold (I dont do it).
  5. Agree on the profession thing EXCEPT if you plan on farming gold.

Point 1 - always been the case
Point 2 - You don’t have to
And so on.

I think we’re losing the wood from the trees here. We do this because the journey is meant to be fun. This is a form of entertainment.

If you find it pointless why play?

It fills some of my spare time needs…and I find what I do fun. When I get bored I switch off and do something else.

  1. Gear always has far too much value placed on it by players. Since the first xpac came out, epics have been permanently destined to be replaced by greens. Concentrate on achievements and mounts if you want something lasting.

  2. Difficulties are there for challenge, there is a massive difference between LFR and Mythic, other than the boss names there is no comparison in the fights, even between Normal and heroic.

  3. This has been the case since Wrath, and even before that unless you proved to be very good on your class you weren’t going to be added to friends lists.

  4. There is plenty of use for gold in the game, if have so much of it just buy cool mounts.

  5. Agree on professions, apart from the anti-fall damage enchant in tailoring there isn’t much point.

Do you… not understand what an MMORPG is?

May I suggest you walk away for a while and take heaps of big deep breaths.
When I become disheartened like that then it is time to unsub for a quarter or so and do something else.
Variety is the spice of life

Conspiracy.

They should remove heirlooms from the game entirely. I want LFR and dungeon finder gone completely. That would
A) Give your alts wortwhile questing rewards, it would make leveling “relevant” content again
B) It would make dungeons an exclusive experience where only if you’re not lazy to go walk all the way to the Barrens, clear a cave for of plants to then step into a dungeon and clear it with 5 people.
These are all steps they could take to slowly unf* their game

I think I get your point (see what I did there?) - the carrot on a stick bit has always been the backbone of this game but that system is always being changed/manipulated/diluted by Blizzard which is in effect slowly killing players desire to continue in favour of providing Blizzard more control over loot timelines.

Vanilla was the same but end game was much more fun and there was more of a ‘game’ to play after getting decent gear, now there isn’t but they (Blizz) do very well to keep that fact hidden, employing specialized loot algorithms to carefully dictate when people are to get gear which is tied neatly into WOW’s timeline for new expansions, so effectively it all averages out. Which is why someone who plays 24/7 will have no better chance of loot than someone who plays 1 hour per day - this is effectively killing the game and I think a part of why people want Classic.

I could only use a sentence but I guess, my word will have to be: Painful.

OP, I think you’re just done with this game, as well as this style of game, at least for a while. The things you’ve listed are parts of what makes an MMORPG what it is. Occasionally I will look at the things I’m doing in WoW and feel ‘what’s the point’. When that happens I know it’s time to take a break.

Maybe if you take a break for a while you will feel better when you come back, or maybe you will realise this style of game just isn’t for you anymore. Either way don’t force yourself to play something you don’t enjoy.

Have to agree on most of the points.

The game needs to have alternative routes for the casual, intermediate and hardcore player.

Pathfinder achievements for example need to be tiered, where the 150% flying is easier to get.

It is all about game design catering to a wider audience.

Blizzard loose their own money not doing this anyway.

Describing wow in one word I would say it’s my ‘Hobby’

Puny my friend lets say cause im really curious actually if you werent MVP would it still be your hobby.

I think because I do like to play wow, it is my hobby and the main game I play, know a reasonable amount about the game, and I’m not super negative or rude is why I was asked to be MVP.

That hasn’t stopped me being critical of the things I don’t like. I am always going to be vocal

I certainly don’t carry on paying to play a game if I didn’t like it and I can step down from being an MVP any time I want
