Desperate cries from the Horde to the Alliance

Hello Argent Dawn! It is me, a simple goblin who most certainly isn’t planning on taking over the world one day with my most genius schemes and carefully planned out tactical moves.

I am here today to cry out for my fellow Horde brethren, because as of late, RP on the Horde side has been very, very quiet.

Now I know this may be because of Shadowland’s release, and the fact that people are doing content, but I also know that many of the people that used to RP on the Horde side, have simply quit, and it’s become increasingly apparent.

Often whenever the time strikes where RP usually is most active (8PM Realm time in this case), the city that was once bustling with RP is now a ghost town.
Sometimes, on good days, we reach a whopping 20 players in The Valley of Honor (Of course not counting the amount of people OOCing on their mounts in the middle of the square for no apparent reason).

As you can probably tell by my sarcasm, that isn’t a great number, especially considered it’s the same players most of the time, which sadly doesn’t bring much variety in RP.

Now this is where I call out to you, Alliance players.
The Alliance is absolutely bustling with RP, even if it’s decreased in the current years. I know for a fact that there is a lot of players who probably have never considered RPing on the opposite faction, and who can blame them? Alliance provides everything you might need in RP, there’s almost always RP to be found no matter where you turn your head. I know that it also comes down to personal preference, and that some people just don’t enjoy the aesthetic of the Horde, which is completely fair.

But alas, here I am creating a forum post, which I was hoping would catch some of the Alliance’s attention.

One day if you feel like it, perhaps consider coming to the Horde for a bit, hang out, have some grog. You are more than welcome to stay around, and perhaps provide us with some of that sweet RP you deliver on the Alliance.

Looking forward to hopefully seeing you one day!

(Also to quickly add, please keep everything drama related out of this post, I know that there’s some stuff happening right now, but I didn’t really make this post for it to turn in to another discussion about what is right or wrong, thank you.)

Edit: None of this is meant to come off as seeming like I don’t think people do enough, it was more intended as a friendly invite to everyone who might be considering to stop by one day.

I know there’s some precampaign events and stuff going on, some festivals or similar, so more people are out and about.
Hoooowever;

This seems to be more common practice recently, and I think it’s caused a few people to shuffle off elsewhere.
Hopefully more people will throw events in Org to draw people in like our recent market.
The city needs life!

I saw the market! I was so happy to see Orgrimmar alive like that, but as quick as it happened it felt it was over again.

Hopefully it’s as you say, it’s campaigns taking people elsewhere, and I may just have been incredibly unfortunate to RP at those times where people are doing stuff outside of Orgrimmar.

The Lunar Festival is up in Moonglade next weekend, I’d advise going to it. Might give you some RP and get you away from Org for a mo.

A link. To a specific post… But it’ll get you to the thread. I’m lazy.

There’s activity going on, though not in the Valley of Honour. The lunar festival is one, but the Chosen of Draenor recently held a festival themselves.

It may be egoistic/full-of-myself to state, but it is also possible Orgrimmar feels emptier nowadays because the PCU guilds have been away on a campaign and it’s usually our 15-20 players in the valley that are RPing there.

Even with the PCU in town it’s felt empty often, at least so more than it used to.

  • Simple goblin
  • Wears robes that are probably more expensive than the entire city of Stormwind :unamused: (Your mog is lit)

Over all the roleplay on Horde has been getting less and less. The over-arching plot of BfA that the Horde is “ze bad guys” certainly didn’t help either.

The Hordes biggest number is the blood elves. That number first took a hit when the void elves were introduced. Now they got a high elf skin. I know Silvermoon is still very populated, but I assume many of them switched over to Alliance.

I know this is a bit of a stereotype but people often want to play pretty races. The Alliance has exactly that. What would be the pretty race on Horde? Blood elves.

Now the Alliance has that pretty race too and the Horde numbers shrink.

Coincidence? I don’t think so.

I think the only way how to MAYBEEEE bring more people over to the Horde would be that the Horde gets humans and night elves.

Otherwise the Horde is just not… that appealing to people. Humans will always be number 1 in population.

Maybe them Horde allied humans aren’t such a bad idea after all. :smirk:

Silvermoon has been very active of late, helped by the multitude of quality guilds like skyguard, ravens, d23, phoenix etc etc. Lovely to see btw

I have left my dwarf behind to try you lot out. I’m a blood elf but you’ll get over it in time. Let’s see what’s up.

Recently moved to Horde myself. It’s the cooler faction lore wise.

Thinking about moving to Horde and maining it for a while, thoughts?

Also just moved over to Horde and you’re right, it does feel very quiet in comparison to Alliance…even trade chat is empty save a few guild spams every now and then.

As simple goblins do, of course~

God, I wish.

I don’t think trade chat is a thing as it is on Alliance.

I put trade on a separate window and I’ve never looked at it for over 3 years (unless I’ve accidentally closed that window and the messages start appearing again - I quickly put it in a tabbed window so I don’t see it again though).

But Alliance rp’ers should try red - and try Tauren.

There’s plenty of variety with us now so it’s the best time to try :+1:

I also checked out the Horde today, and, yes, it does seem dead.

This situation should call for more cooperation between RP minded people and guilds. So, bury your hatchets and get to work.

It may be easier to just leave the channel at this stage.

While I realise that this isn’t true for everyone, I think it’s important that this isn’t or doesn’t become a call to action solely to others either.

Role-play is a two-way street, meaning it requires the initiative and collaboration of all parties involved. Waiting for other people to walk up to you [general use of ‘you’] is often counter-intuitive.

If you want role-play, seize it.

I think that there’s been a growing “issue” [it’s a far too dramatic term to use, I know] across Argent Dawn as a whole where there’s a lack of initiative from many players, expecting others to take the first step.

Mind, I’m not saying this applies to everyone. But I’d urge most, if not everyone, to take a good hard look at your own routines in role-play and evaluate whether you, personally, could take more initiative to see the role-play that you’re wanting. If you already are, take comfort in that. If not, perhaps you should.

Because there is a part–and not necessarily a small one–of players that expects to be catered. In no small part plenty of them sit around on mounts in the skies waiting for the areas below to -become- active rather than be active themselves and start something up.

This is a heavy generalization to simply put some emphasis on a much larger problem. But I hope that it can be a motivator or a reminder to some nonetheless!

That, and that initiatives are regularly shot down by others or considered “competition” to existing guilds. People should also remember that roleplay isn’t a competitive activity.

Thanks for your post, Grôhl.

You do still see people in the Valley of Honour from time to time, enough to where I’d call it a semi-regular RP hub. There’s normally something going on there on a daily basis, though it’s nowhere near as busy or as frequently occupied as parts of Stormwind are.

The Horde population on Argent Dawn is generally far smaller than the Alliance one if I’m not mistaken, so RP is always gonna be smaller on Horde. But on top of that, I have to imagine that BFA wasn’t exactly the best expansion for RPers on Horde compared to Alliance, given how much of the expac boils down to “Sylvanas bad, Azeroth good” (Or I might be projecting admittedly). I know a few people who weren’t eager to stay on Horde characters post-Legion with how things were shaping up with BFA - they didn’t want to be a part of the ‘warmonger’ faction, for lack of a better term.

And if you DID wanna be a part of the warmonger faction, well then you gotta deal with the Alliance being the heroes during the last half of the expac. Bit of a naff deal IMO and wasn’t a particularly great incentive to hop onto Horde RP for most of us over on ally.

I could be completely wrong here but I do feel like that played some factor in the lack of overall RP on Horde.
