Destruction talent tree needs improvements

Hello everyone,
I really think that the current tree is not out of the beta and that several points must be changed:

  • Too many talents costing 2 points. Destro is by far the spec/class with the most 2 points nodes in the game. There are too much difficulty to reach some talents. “Scalding flames” and “Ruin” are very hard to reach and are 2 points nodes too…

  • Too little synergy with some talents. “Dimensional rift” has 0 synergy with our other talents and “Crashing chaos” is counter synergistic where we want to spend soul shards (with “Rain of chaos”, “Grand warlock design”, “Power overwhelming”, “Ritual of ruin” etc…).

  • Some talents are mandatory because they bring too much damage which reduces the amount of talent points available without bringing an interesting gameplay. You can’t play without “Reverse entropy”, “Flashpoint”, “Eradication”, “Ashen remains”, “Chaos incarnate” etc…)

I really think, having spent a lot of time on this talent tree, that the main problem is that there are too many 2-point talents and maybe not enough 1-point talents.

What do you think about it? I would love to see Blizzard take a look at this…
I wish I could play “Dimensional rift”, “Cataclysm”, “Fire and brimstone”, “Shadowburn”, “Channel demon fire” but I never have enough points to include them competitively.

Agree. There’s so many interesting talents that I’d like to at least give a try, yet I can’t since there are just not enough points to do so. The 2-point talents issue is also real, the middle of the talent tree is all about “invest 2 points or you won’t be able to get further”… Drives me mad actually

Yes, it is mainly the middle of the tree that is the problem.

And I don’t understand why “Improved immolate” costs 2 points, why not mix it with “Sclading flames” to justify the 2 points…

It will be even more problematic that in 10.0.7, we will want to play with the damage of “Immolate” and “Incinerate” but we will be frustrated not to be able to use the talents that improve and/or complete these spells.

We could play a build based on “Cataclysm”/“Channel demonfire”/“FireAndBrimstone” but without redesigning these talent points too expensive we will remain on a specialization that uses 3 spells and 1 spell for AOE …

This is obviously a spell for PvP. Though for sure its not a justification to make it have no synergy with other spells, like, at all.

Not only is it counter synergistic in that regard, it also becomes impossible to spend your shards on Chaos Bolts if you get lucky on the first few Chaos Bolts and proc Rain of Chaos. You cap alot of Soul Shards and lose alot of damage. Only works with Bloodlust or PI.

And for the love of all that is holy and evil; make Cataclysm baseline for Dest already ^^

On your plea to Blizzard; expect nothing. Whoever is desiging the Warlock specs is absolutely clueless on the “feel good” or “flow” of the rotation, talent choices etc. and on top of that, in their mind, none of these are an issue  So, expect no changes.

I always thought that PvP spells have a speciall tab at the bottom of the talent window

Yes but some spells, in the normal talent tree, are sort of designed for PvP. Dimensional Rift is one of them.

Another example is the talent that procs instant incenerates upon taking damage.

I miss good old Legion days when Rift was used in pve as well…

Exactly, I completely agree…

I’m playing other classes right now, leaving my warlock in the closet, and it’s obvious they shipped the destroy and affli specs during the beta.

The destru tree has way too many 2 point talents and it discourages choosing spells like Dimensional Rift, Cataclysm etc…

The shadow priest gets a second overhaul while the warlock remains in an alpha stage…
