Devastation Evoker suggestions

  1. Make Quell usable during Disintegrate channel, possibly as a secondary effect of Imposing Presence.
  2. Give us a third empower ability that replaces pyre in the talent tree, single target that deals increased damage based on the cast time. Pyre goes down a few rows below in the fire side of the talent tree.
  3. Passive magic damage mitigation in the Devastation tree, 4% from Inherent resistance is not enough for a caster with a 25y range and not defensives to speak of.
  4. Focusing Iris becomes part of Shattering Star, aka make Shattering last 6 seconds with no further talent expenditure. Replace Focusing Iris with a new effect that gives Shattering star a 100% chance to trigger Essence Burst.
  5. (Fix Deep Breath)
  6. Talent in the Devastation Tree that increases Obsidian Scales’ damage reduction from 30 to 40%, or make it baseline for Devastation.
  7. Make Burnout baseline for Devastation.
  8. Make Tyranny part of Dragonrage.
  9. Make Scintillation less rng, for instance firing a garanteed Eternity surge with 35% power at the end of every disintegrate if we fully channel one.
  10. Replace Causality with Power Nexus.
  11. Make the initial animation time of Deep Breath faster, travel time is good.
  12. Nerf nulllifying Shroud’s duration to 5 seconds but make it also give us silence and interrupts immunity.

dont forget the most annoying thing, fire breath and eternity surge cast gets canceled some times when your hard casting it

For clarity purposes:

  1. Quell = Kick
  2. Burnout = Fire Breath dot tics have a chance to make Living Flame instant.
  3. Animosity = Using an empowered spell increases Dragonrage last 6 seconds longer. Alternatively, Tyranny could be baseline instead. Tyranny = Dragonrage makes us benefit from our mastery regardless of enemy health %.
  4. Eternity Surge = Hard hitting empower ability. Scintillation = Disintegrate tics have a 15% chance to trigger Eternity Surge at 60% damage. That hits VERY hard, too hard in my opinion, and too RNG. Disintegrate will often straight up kill someone if Scintillation procs twice.
  5. Causality = Eternity Surge has its cd reduced by 1sec when we use an essence ability. Power Nexus = Maximum essence increased from 5 to 6. Disintegrate cost 3, hence the importance of that talent tree in the blue build.

I’m confident you know Deep Breath and Nullifying Shroud by now.

Delete ugly dragon.
Make other specs more balanced.

That is the priority, yes, but far from the only issue facing the spec right now. It’s truly a concept design as opposed to a complete class at the moment, those changes aim at fixing the incoherences in the build.

It’s vague.

Do you just improve the current tools, or do you create new ones?
If so, which ones?

  1. Allow us to use empower spells while hovering.

  2. Make fire breaths range much bigger. It should cover the same area as the healing breath…

  3. Give us a pvp talent that makes every melee attack reflect damage for about 1.5 seconds but reduce healing we get by -100% meanwhile. Let it have a 2 min cd but allow melees to understand that they need to plan before bursting us down. It doesnt matter if its 1 second. It would help alot.

  4. Reduce the cds of heals or let it put a healing over time on just us…

  5. Allow us to use obsidian shield while stunned.

  6. Have a talk with those that is in control for devastation evoker and give every devastation evoker something in return, like a month of gametime. Why are 25 yd casters weak to interrupts and stuns? Rofl. I wasted my time on this spec, Blizzard doesnt care and I am leveling a warlock and rogue once again to do arena with it, like I did in my old account. Never going to try another class.
    Ive seen posts by devastation evokers that tried their best to get to over 2k ratings.

In all honesty, just delete evokers and let people change to another class for free and give them equal gear and progression. This class sucks if you dont want to play a broken healer. That is all I have to say. Preservation evoker stuffs can be added to mistweaver or shamans… I feel sad for new players that rolls a dragon, falls in love with devastation just to see that it is halffinished and garbage at 70.

1: I would disagree with that one, we only ever use Empower 1, being forced to be static for that short duration is, in my humble opinion, a pretty good idea. However, as you mentionned, the range is too short to even shortcast it. Fire Breath needs a bigger range and the hitbox should be wider at the base, so that we can use it on melees hitting us. Eternity surge’s range is fine considering it hits very hard, making it harder to use makes sense, although increasing the range to 30y (from 25) would be a very good idea as well, it’s still short but not as much.
3: Eh. Making Obsidian Scales an actual defensive and making it usable through stun would be enough, we can kite melees quite well, it makes sense that we are frail. We are just too frail, and by a lot. It’s even worse into casters.
4: You mean Emerald Blossom? I agree, a shorter CD and a hot on it would be a good idea.
5: Big yes.
6: Bit drastic mate, the spec has been out for 2 months and for some reason slipped through the cracks of beta testing. Like many other things, to be fair. On a brighter note, Blizzard has been pretty responsive with tuning/balancing, and being willing to straight up revamp some talent trees so short into the expansion is a good sign. I hope they will do that to Devastation as well, honestly, the spec feels like we are playing an Alpha at this point.

I’ve only picked up the spec a few days ago though, so I might end up giving up like every devastation player before me. :sunglasses:

It’d be fun but it makes no sense gameplay wise. We don’t want to be in melee, ever. We should be able to lick our enemies from a distance though, throwing our tongues like a chameleon.
Jokes aside I’m trying to keep the shi(r)tposting for unimportant threads, keeping this one serious to optimize the likelihood of these, or some of these changes to be implemented.

There are threads/replies in the us forum where some 2500+ rated devastation evoker basically tells about the experience.

To sum it up, they think playing devastation is a waste of time :confused: Yeah isnt that fun. Someone spending time trying to improve and try to be good at a spec, just to wish they didnt even play it.

Its fun in pve with huge bursts and aoe but in pvp it needs a giant buff. Like uninterruptable spells without cds…

the only thing DEV evoker needs is some sort of teleport / blink

or a " wall" like a shield that can be used during a stun

DPS is fine ive had 180k eternity surge crits

id suggest

  • a Teleport like alter time
  • a Dark pact type of shield during a stun
  • 30yard range
  • crits from fire breath or eternity surge reduce Hover CD

Our damage is fine, but a lot of it, too much of it, is RNG. Worse than that, our entire tree is a giant middle finger aside from maybe 8 points and feels extremely unrewarding to use as I genuinely don’t feel the difference between them. Our best builds are only the best because we have points and might as well use them.

Those changes sound pretty good, but if Obsidian Scales gets the buff it needs and is usable through stuns, we wouldn’t need a teleport. I’d rather keep the current core gameplay and improve upon it. We need a way to reduce Hover CD however, that is for sure. Also we NEED to be able to kick during Disintegrate, right now we’ll often kick a healer at 20% only to be unable to kill because we ran out of damage. Makes no sense, we’re punished no matter what we do.

As for uninterruptable spells without CDs, I don’t really get the idea behind that. We need to have an interruptable spell so we can fake cast instead. People are starting to realize you shouldn’t kick Living Flame even in the depths of trash mmr, and we have nothing else kickable other than Disintegrate, which we cannot fake, and Eternity Surge, a 30 seconds cooldown. It would be great to just have more abilities, seriously, this feels like Legion gameplay.

Other suggestions:

  1. Make living flame great again. AKA remove the Living Flame cast time increase on Engulfing Blaze. Living Flame sucks when it’s not an instant cast because it’s just way too long for what it brings. Ancient Flame can be removed as a way to counterbalance that, granted we also gain buffs on our overall bulk.
  2. Tail Swipe off GCD and Wing Buffet usable while casting Disintegrate.
