In a nutshell, but people don’t want this because all the friends have already made moved to 3 billion different servers because this happened to begin with. That’s what happens.
That’s why I’m so upset about this. I warned them for years. Like since 2012 or longer. They did nothing. They don’t know what to do.
I do think a server like this has a lot of appeal though and I definitely think it’s something people want to play in, so it should be offered, so start there. And make sure that if the faction imbalance is too large you just can’t play on the vastly overpopulated faction, you only get to pick one, no cross-realms, no cross faction - just all the restrictions we used to have.
It is an opt-in system. You can continue be the orc or human-hating panda you’ve always wanted to be.
This is not inconsistent with the lore or feel of the game. Humans and Orcs have many times since Warcraft 3 cooperated with one another when the time to do so has arisen. There is no reason why players shouldn’t also be extended that choice. The Orc vs Human construct is a relic that died after Warcraft 2.
Worth noting that there are still voices within the Alliance that aren’t feeling at ease with the armistice, such as Genn Greymane. They’ll likely still ask you to be hostile to the Horde, which you absolutely can if you want to be.
It’s not really though, is it. You have to make the group to avoid non-opposite faction from joining, and if you do opt to not allow it I am 100% sure someone that joins the group will complain about it, forcing you to relent eventually.
While this is true to an extent, an important thing to note is that “alliances shift and cultures clash in ruthless conflict” actually means that alliances shift. Once this is added alliances can’t really shift. All players are effectively allied, and any change to this will be met with severe backlash because now cross-realm communities will be the norm.
I suspect that’s true, sure.
I think your post is a good one but I also disagree simply because of how inconsistent and weird it all is and how much it encourages you to use UI panels. MMORPG’s are supposed to be about sharing a wide open world, meeting one another, making friends and joining guilds, and going on adventures together, and if CRZ hadn’t killed that enough already then this certainly will. If I find a hordie and he’s not on my friends list I can’t talk to him and he’s my sworn enemy, but if he is we can party up - but if he isn’t there’s no way we can become friends to party up.
You see the problem? It’s all about UI panels over world, and it’s further erosion of the town effect, and in terms of story it’s expedient now, but likely can’t be undone and will cause dire problems if you want to tell another story about the war between the factions. EDIT: Welp, just saw Ion saying they’re never gonna do it. Well, so much for that I guess.
Well then you know what your feedback should be, asking for those who browse the finder to be able to filter/tell whether or not a group is cross faction or not. Because I’m sure as hell they’re not gonna cancel the entire thing.
Another big reason the change is happening now is because of how communication outside of World of Warcraft has changed over the years. 17 years ago, Hazzikostas says, people met their online friends and communities through the game, and thus through their factions. But increasingly over the years, that’s changed radically.
"It was just kind of one of those accepted rules back then if you meet a friend, and you discover that you play on different servers, oh well, you’re never going to get to play with your friend. That’s just how WoW is. Whereas those boundaries have increasingly been torn down and tons of communities have formed and there are Discords and WoW communities and people who are friends on Twitter and other places. The downside of maintaining that hard line grows with each passing year.
“We frankly probably reached the tipping point a little while ago. But in a game like this, we’re stubborn and traditionalists and it’s scary to say: let’s uproot this foundational pillar of what the game has been for over a decade. But it’s time.”
What you describe just isn’t how the world, or the game, work anymore. I get the nostalgia, but it’s gone. You can’t undo the last 17 years of technological and societal changes.
No thx never in my life will i play with alliance characters.
A good alliance is a dead alliance.
I hope thy implement an option so i can see that a group is horde only.
Although I do consider this a step in the right direction regarding a faction favored game style. I would still like to see them simply removing racials instead of creating a system to fix a problem that have simply evolved over time. Remove the racials removes the problem of a faction favored gamestyle.
