No, it was not the case as much in the past because it was extremely time consuming to alt and it was actually difficult to come close to the level of mastery a good player had on a main with your alt, at least in a short time frame (which is the concept of fotm).
It mostly depends on how blizzard makes things easier with … real currency services. Also WotLK saw some evolution regarding what was absolutely broken OP and what wasn’t. Again people won’t reroll halfway through unless there are tokens for it, because re leveling in those expansions is painful if you’re here for end game content.
I agree with everything you wrote…I mean, I would love to discuss design and gameplay more, but forums are in a state of perpetual qq loop. And over the years, I’ve learned people are often expressing oposite views on what class and gameplay design should look like.
For example, some people here are staunch supporters of MoP and want pvp to be like that. But is that truly a good idea? Majority of qqs and people who post here are less experienced players, often called baddies, which can be seen trough numerious rating bashing. Do you really think these players would suddenly think pvp is amazing again if we return to a time where 20+cc chains were a possibility? Where arms race between melee and ranged has reached its peak, so melee mobility and instant casts where at an all time high? I understand that MoP pvp was a heaven for really really good players, the upper echeleon. But for the majority of players, I would argue it was a miserable and overwhelmimg experience. Specs being overstuffed with buttons and basically having every tool may sound dandy to some, but a lot.of feedback was on how that is actually a bad game design, that specs should have clear weaknesses and strenghts, and not be homogenized to such degree. SL reminds me a lot of MoP actually, with the melee mobility creep, but many casters have to cast again, so you get things like resolve as a bad band-aid fix. Also, people are demanding stuff be pruned from specs on a daily basis, but then some people say we should go back to a time where specs had just as many broken abilities…
I dont think WoW pvp will ever be balanced, and mostly because it seems impossible to create a game where both lesser experienced, average, decent and hard core pro arena players can coexist and all be happy, and especially when you put random grouping trough LFG.
I dont much care about how design goes i just want my class to be equal to other classes
And since wod balance goes down the hill
Theres no room to out play
R1 ppl lose to back pafaling hunter is wrong
Still i have no problem that some classes counter other bu lightly like it was in wrath
Ya, it wasnt fun, but now, every class can oneshot (Assa, destro, frostmage). For a healer its really annoying that in a 3 sec interrupt the partner die.
All the ppl cames with this “Shadowmourne” classes, and its true, but dont forget that, it was a legendary. A real legendary. Now All the ppl running with Two legendary.
I tried too some good priv servers, and I was so suprised how good it was. There was oneshots, but heals was way more bigger than now.
I playing healers since Wotlk (mainly disc, resto shaman from Cata) and I know, that healers situation is much worse every year.
And the dps classes can cry that they dont find healer in LFG and in Rated BG for guild… but dont forget, doing a healer is not a precious task. Mostly its annoying, (when your partner hitting THORNS and finally you are the blame)
In older times there was bigger heals, and the class balance was really REALLY BETTER
