DH RP - Can you tell me if this is too edgy/cringy ?

Greetings roleplayers ! I need some advice

So I finally came up with a name for my main. Problem is, DH are often seen as edgelords, same back when DKs were released in the game.

Here is my character details from TRP3 : imgur(dot)com/qQbqlOb
(can’t even put a link ffs… sorry about that).

I tried to put not much info, as I believe nobody really reads long descriptions, it’s just boring, best is to find out by doing proper RP imo.

Another thing about the background, I got it mostly, but I’m a bit puzzled about the demon my character had to consume in order to become what he his currently. An idea I had was that he used to live in the place now known as Felwood with his lover.

Once the Legion attacked she was taken away from him (as in kidnapped by demons), never to be seen again along with the deaths of all his friends in the village. Many years after, once he followed the ways to become a Demon Hunter, before taking on the ritual to gouge his eyes, Ascalon had to find a demon and consume his soul.

My idea would be that his long lost lover would be found, completely corrupted by the Fel. Upon defeating her, Ascalon took her skull as a memento. As her soul resides within him, he can hear and talk to her again. In the beginning she was extremely hostile but in time she quickly became the one he once knew. Only thing where I have some doubts would be on the corruption part, as seen with draeneis/eredars but I haven’t seen that with other playable races. Any idea if this would be possible?

Thank you in advance yall !

Any mortal (or immortal) creatures can be turned into demons by being infused with large quantities of Fel magic, usually in the form of a gift or blessing such as the one Sargeras offered the Eredar
So Ascalon’s GF ascended to demonhood after her joining the Legion (or "free Demons) after some temptation/torture… is not impossible
Like her "redemption/rehabilitation… Some demons that were not born demons can be redeemed from their demonic forms into who they originally were. Like the satyr Avrus Illwhisper. After assisting the player in curing a sick girl in Astranaar as a toll, Avrus was purged of his demonic shell by Elune’s blessing, turning back into a night elf and being renamed Avrus the Redeemed. Based on Avrus’ experience, it seems possible that someone who is truly repentant and is willing to earn a powerful enough blessing can regain mortality even after corruption.
In Ascalon’s GF case, of course, she is in him, and sure, at first whipser like any other Demon soul trapped in a Hunter, but the DH could ā€œtalk backā€, so I guess, rehabilitation of her Gf is not that impossible… but she would still be a Demon, just with her old personality and Ascalon would have to live with the fact, he killed her and consumed her soul… thats enough I think for an insanity and a sad ending

It’s… a bit too special snowflakey for my tastes.

It’s typically a case of it could happen but it’d be a really rare case and we’ve never seen an example of it before.

Mmh I’ll try to go back to the drawing board then

In my opinion, you should never overthink backstories. Make them detailed but not overcomplicated or debatable.

The stories that matter are the ones you’re about to experience, not the ones your character has been through already, before you start playing him.

If you have made a backstory that YOU like, and it is believable in the Warcraft universe, I say, ā€œGo for it.ā€

I see you got some advice against your idea, but I find myself agreeing more with the first reply you got (if I interpreted it correctly).

However…

As Lytandrah exemplifies, some (role-) players might think it’s too ā€œsnowflakeyā€. (I don’t, but…)

Thyrellas pointed out that the backstory you presented, could make it difficult for your character to NOT be edgy, given the conflicting emotions I think he would be feeling when he

-lost his love to demons
-met his former love again, AS a demon
-killed his demonic former love
-consumed the demonic soul of his former love
-reconnected with his demonic former love

I agree that backstories shouldn’t be too complicated, but I don’t think yours is

In short; I have seen backstories that are both more snowflakey, more complicated, and more improbable in the Warcraft universe

It isn’t the matter of ā€œcould it happen?ā€ but more like ā€œwhat are the chances it would actually happen?ā€.

Would he really happen upon the first female satyr that was ever discovered, and that same satyr would be his former lover?

Yes, technically it could happen but, what are the chances? Almost none.

I agree, the chances are VERY slim, to put it mildly

I didn’t see his former love becoming a female satyr, but I suppose that is what ā€œdemonizedā€ night elves become…

Is it stated that there are only male satyr, or might it be model design ā€œlazinessā€ from Blizzard?

Also, I noticed it said his demonic former love ā€˜quickly’ became the one he once knew.

I may be very odd ball, but THAT is the thing I found least believable

And you would be correct.

Rehabilitating demons isn’t impossible. But if it was that simple, it’d be done way more.

It is also making a very common DH RP mistake. Your inner demon is not your friend. It isn’t on your side. You’re stealing its power, and that’s it.

And about female satyrs, as said, it isn’t impossible, but it’d be extremely frowned upon because while there’s nothing in the lore preventing it from happening, there are also no known examples of it happening.

Thus it’d be quickly dubbed snowflakey.
I’m not trying to be a spoilsport, however, just trying to protect the OP from very likely backlash if he decides to follow through with the idea.

Ah it’s alright, thanks for the message, I may change things a bit.

Like Xavius, all satyrs have the ability to pass their curse on, and they have gleefully done so. The curse has therefore continued to spread, although it has weakened over time, and so very few satyrs are still being created. New satyrs can only be created by preexisting satyrs.

Over time the satyrs discovered that they could pass their curse on to races other than the night elves. Although most satyrs today are former night elves, satyrs have therefore also been created out of other races. According to scattered reports, there are both male and female satyrs; however, researchers have failed thus far to secure irrefutable evidence of female satyrs on Azeroth
The Fallen Priestess, formerly the night elven Priestess Driana is a female satyr but uses an in-game model entirely identical to the male satyrs.
