In the current iteration of this ability and what we know of it, it allows for a DH to see all forms of magic. This i understand comes from fel having in it all forms of the arcane and specifically was used by the Demon Hunters to hunt for Demons, beings of Fel.
With the current strata of magic having also Light/Void and maybe even Life/Death in the future, would you presume that Spectral Sight allows them to also see these forms of “magic” or is it limited to just Arcane/ Fel.
With Void magic starting to fill in more and more abilities, and especially those effecting the mind, An illusionist using void would be susceptible to the Spectral Sight or not?
Well put it this way. If Spectral Sight has basically RP wallhacks, its say to bet that it can also any kind of magical aura, besides Light or Fel magic. Whether it be Shadow, Necromancy or Nature, I’ve seen every demon hunter use spectral sight to see through any kind of aura or illusion someone may have.
However that doesnt mean there isn’t a counter balance. Dorlas mentions the homunculi which are basically undead constructs to act as living beings in plain sight. Illusion magic is also a thing to, If someone has a necrotic aura around them, they could easily use illusion magic to instead harbour an arcanic aura.
Yes, Spectral Sight covers auras of the undead and such as well.
Save the Homunculi (specifically crafted by Dreadlords to circumvent this particular ability), and Shivarra possessing such illusion skills that it makes them harder to notice at a glance than otherwise the case, there is no source of magic (or simply the aura of a being) that avoids being noticed entirely.
I always thought that the sight was given by Sargeras, father of demons and so allowes the user to track them. Sargeras the father of Fel and so on. And as i said Fel is comprised from all the Arcane put together like a salad so it would allow one to see all the Arcane because we didnt have this distinction up till now but with whats happening… rules may change?
No, all the demon hunters except Illidan, got their powers through rituals you saw in the “Harbingers: Illidan” animation, Illidan however got his from Sargeras himself when he pretended to aid the Legion. They’re similar to Death Knights in a way as each generation is different from another. Except the first generation of DH’s had one demon hunter (Illidan). And by wallhacks I mean they can see through walls.
When your a necromancer like me, it is hard to walk around in Stormwind when you have these demonic elves everywhere who can see through your illusions and will call you out in /y. One of the most annoying things to happen at the pre-launch of Legion for me.
There is also case from TBC (that has not been retconned to the best of my knowledge) where Altruis couldn´t see what was happening in demon camps in Nagrand due to wards they put there.
So if there is actually precedent for demons to hide themselves from demon hunter, I don´t see why others couldn´t do it.
On one level, DHs could reveal everything about player characters that are hiding something and said hiding of said something is actually important part of their story.
On the other hand, some events may rely on going after hidden enemies and for the sake of the story, these enemies need to remain hidden for some time, which is just impossible if there are DHs who can reveal them immediately.
Nor I, and I honestly don’t care enough to look further into it than this. There was/is a guide to DH RP on the old forums that had a fairly good discussion on the matter iirc. I wouldn’t fault a player for relating to the more recent lore and examples, rather than one TBC quest however - DH or otherwise.
He was aware now of the ebb and flow of energies all around. The lights were auras of living things, some bright, some filled with energy. The brightest of all came from the being who stood beside him.
“Is this how you see the world?” Vandel asked.
“It is one way. Your mind becomes accustomed to it eventually. It maps its new way of seeing onto its old way of understanding reality. There will come a time when you will be able to perceive the world as once you did. It is a much narrower way of seeing, but our minds crave familiarity.”
“You are saying you can shift from seeing the world like this to seeing it as if you had eyes?”
This. Also when the demon hunter unlocks their class munt, you see through the creature’s eyes. It looks like an infrared camera, and since the spectral sight is the way demons see things, it would be the best way to visually depict the vision.
Keep in mind that DHs do not see all things at the same time. They essentially can only see one kind of vision type at a time. If they aren’t looking for something, they probably shouldn’t see it, since most DHs default to normal vision.
