Dialogue issues - muffled or cuts off

Hello,

I’ve noticed a couple of issues related to audio in terms of in-game dialogue. So far I’ve pinpointed four problems, but there are likely much more. Two of them are related to Shadowlands content and two - to older content. Starting with the Shadowlands ones:

  1. Immediately after entering the Maw for the first time (after finishing the quest “Through the Shattered Sky” - ID 59751) there are two pieces of dialogue from Darion - they overlap quite terribly with the in-game music and the second line of dialogue cuts off the first one.

  2. During the quest “The Blade of the Primus” - ID 60428 - once Heirmir starts reforging the blade and the first group of mobs spawn she immediately spews 2 lines of dialogue, which overlap and the second one completely stops the first one. There should be a delay between the two lines and I’m quite confident this worked at the beginning of the expansion.

Now, the other two are for “ancient” content:

  1. Molten Core (yes, the Classic raid) - once you “summon” Majordomo Executus (by killing all other bosses) there is a line of dialogue, which is extremely muffled, as if directional sound is used (I am not using it and Windows is set to output everything to Mono as a test. Additionally, my headset does NOT use Surround Sound). Supposedly, the line of dialogue should be heard normally.

  2. Blackwing Descent - there are multiple violations here. The first one is evident in the heroic version of the raid. The intro of Nefarian (just after entering the raid) gets cut abruptly during his last words. Once he “awards you the title” - that line of dialogue gets cut off as well (it gets muffled first). Additionally, once you begin his encounter, his last lines before Onyxia is reanimated get muffled and skipped.

This really does break immersion, even if it is for very old content and can be quite annoying. In-Game configuration:
Reverb and Distance Filtering - Disabled
Sound Channels - 64
Sound Cache - 128 MB

Windows 10 is updated to the latest version (so hopefully the clusterF that was caused in 2019’s KB4515384 is not applicable).

I look forward to any input on your side.

EDIT: Partial resolution (related to Blackwing Descent). I cleaned up Windows from old software, including:

  • MSI Afterburner
  • Nvidia HD Audio Driver (not playing sound through displays so not sure if it could be)
  • Virtual Audio Cable
  • LAV Filters

Following this, dialogue does not regress so much (it still happens during the “title award” scene and during the resurrection of Onyxia but it is not as intrusive as it was). The other issues are yet to be tested

Thank you!
