My ilvl is 257 and I am doing poorly, really poor. I am not blaming the class nor Blizzard, merely my newbish approach which is normal for a casual, I have however never been this far behind with any of the other classes I have played.
I have basically no haste and after reading a bit its apparently important? Since beggars cant choose I have just stuck with what I have been given, don´t grind much and my talents without looking priorly at other sites actually look pretty much like Icy Veins … looked it up today.
My crit/haste/mast/vers is 25/8/60/14
Inferno hits like a wet noodle and I am seeing numbers like 500-900 (except crits) which is far below any other aoe I have done with other classes. My hunter friend with ilvl 262 is doing tripple my damage overall.
Again, I am not blaming the class, I have also grouped with other warlocks who really arent interested in sharing their tactics but with far better dps than me.
In contrast I do relatively well in PvP …
I usually start with Immolate, Decimating Bolt, havoc and two conflagrates to boost incinerate … then havoc … 3 heavy hitting incinerates, conflagrate followed my two chaos bolts . In the meantime everyone has leaped far ahead of me in the dps department. Both my legendaries are tied to conflagrate/incinerate.
Incinerate hits for about 22k
Chaos bolt for about 17k
Yes, I am an idiot … no need tell me, any consctructive advice would be nice, could be I have it all wrong.
I play demo rather than destro, so I can’t give any advice on rotation, but the secondary stat priority listed on Wowhead for PvE is:
haste = mastery >= crit >> vers
Icy Veins suggests changing once you have the 4-piece to:
Haste;
Critical Strike;
Versatility;
Mastery.
If you look at what the top destro locks are playing in mythic plus, there is a mix between:
haste > crit
haste > mast
haste > crit=mast
Either way, it looks as if you’re struggling because your haste is horribly low.
General advice for gearing up is to always take an ilvl upgrade regardless of stats, but it’s worth specifically targeting items that will provide the secondary stats you need. In the case of destro, it looks to be haste first, then crit and/or mastery.
I was testing stuff in SW today and noticed that when using the Decimating Bolt + Conflagrate to maximize Incinerate something happens which I think may be a bug.
When I choose Cataclysm as a talent Incinerate hits for about 20k in its 3 maxed hits.
However if I choose Fire and Brimstone Incinerate gets its damage reduced to about 2/3 on the primary target.
It depends on what you’re doing in the game. For sustained AOE, haste/crit is amazing for shorter ramp and more shard gain. Infernal doesn’t scale with mastery and in AOE it should be your second highest damaging source.
For everything else, the stats don’t matter a great deal, they’re all good, but you could really use quite a bit more haste, it must feel miserable at 8%
