Did they ever massively buff Stealth, or something?

So I was leveling in Hyjal and I kept getting killed by a level 85 Rogue. Didn’t bother me at first, but he kept ganking me when I ressed. So I did what everyone would do. I logged on to my main and tried to scare him away (aka kill him a few times as payback).

When I got to the spot, I got Sapped a few times, but only ever managed to find him once with luck (used Wake of Ashes to knock him out of Stealth). After that, I just couldn’t spot him. I’m 35 levels above him, but I could not see him in Stealth. I kept getting Sapped and Sapped and I just jumped around like a headless chicken trying to find him.

I know they changed it so low levels aren’t instantly one-shot anymore by level 120s, but did they also do something to Stealth?

What do you mean that you were unable to see him, that how the stealth works and no lvl difference is going to make you see stealthed rogues, druids or hunters

It wasn’t like that in the past. The level difference determines at what range you’re supposed to be able to see an enemy in Stealth. A high level player was able to see a low level rogue in stealth pretty easily.

Oh you mean when stats like subtlety and detection were in the game which now don’t exist in current game (or atleast i think so since there weren’t any new items with stealth detection since wotlk from what i’ve seen)

Nah, not that. The “power” of stealth is determined by your level. The higher your level, the better your stealth is, relative to other players and mobs.

For example; a level 120 rogue can stay hidden perfectly from a level 1 mob.
A level 1 rogue will be visible immediately by a level 120 mob, as if stealth is not even active.

But for some reason, this didn’t apply to the 85 rogue.

Well mobs and players are two different things

As for this low lvl mobs will usually leave you alone, especially lvl 1 mobs

The guy is right, higher levels did used to be able see through lower stealth was generalized and hugely buffed at the same time Rogue lost their slow stealth.

Think its humans / hunters who had the real edge tbh vs stealthers. Yes you wont find them given they can outrange it and the likes.

Even as a rogue myself I think that stealth is broken. If someone saps me, he should have a debuff making him easier to find.

I spammed fan of knives and jumped all over the place in a small room and kept getting sapped.

I’d say that sap should have lower range. Its a melee ability and is 10 yd range… You can pretty much stand in the center of your blizzard and it doesnt matter cuz rogue can still sap you in there.

Yes, playing since TBC rogues, blizz indeed buffed stealth. Dunno when this happened, exactly, maybe cata?

I can only tell you, that a max level char like in TBC lvl70, could not see a low level char like lvl 20 either, if i am far away, so the range when you can spot a stealthie was always limited.

But you were spotted almost instantly, if that max level char was close to you.

There were many stealth levels to upgrade, to as well. it got all removed, maybe its all set to max now.

BUT, you have plenty of items to reduce stealth, but nobody is using them apparantly. Some drop in bgs in crates and others can be made i think by alchemy.

So you might prepare better for this and give your main some stacks of “Potion of the Unveiling Eye” to increase your stealth detection.

I think, there are other items too, that can reduce stealth, but i can’t name them right now.

Also, dl and use the spy addon, its really good.
