I just started a game as gnome rogue and i see that the starting zone is in different place and different overall. So it’s a new experience from me. Also the pace is very fast, i can’t 1vs3/1vs4 mobs. Wtf!!
The story is different now, comparing when i started a gnome character on classic wow… How can i understand what happened? Any cinematic?
Also i started with dual wield? And no high missing attacks? And i learn new spells automatically! Much easier to classic!
Yes, it’s two different games. Classic is how it started, retail is how it ended up after 15 years - the gnomes got their original capital back.
Yeah, that’s fun for a while. Gets old really quick, though. Everything is a grind now, no downtime for profs needed, not first aid to level, no significant talent trees… just grinding bear ässes and murloc variations from now on.
One of the reasons why I want better storytelling with previous expansion transitions. They can do it with class/spec specific scenarios. And those intro speeches on starting zones should reflect how the zones changed with Cataclysm. Otherwise the new zone quests and stories are very good. You won’t get much fun on quests in classic than for example new Badlands ones.
If they add all these expansions on wow classic it will be better for us who play wow for 1st time I guess. So we would understand all the story better. Maybe not all expansions, just the two first.
A new player who start to play retails after 14 years of its existence will get much confused. Over 20 races, 3 worlds, so many leaders died that you could never have the chance to see them.
I would be a good idea the world to process at the same time with the players progression. But I know that it could be hard on real time games.
I just watched all the 8 cinematics and they don’t give you much details about the story. Also on Legion humans and undead ally to fight the enemy, and on bfa the battle each other.
The classic zones is a mismatch of Vanilla, BC, Wrath and Cataclysm. In one zone it can be Vanilla related, in another you hear about Deathwing, and then you hea a little about Arthas in another, and then you are back at Vanilla, and then you hear something about Garrosh.
Vanillazones is a mess and there is not much fun in chasing lore there, From BC and onwards the lore gets more convoluted thankfully.
There’s this site of storyline order site which might be handy (if you are after lore) https://wow.gamepedia.com/Category:Zone_storylines
Note that if you are after the Lore, you will need to stop your XP at 60, 80, 90, 110 - if you want the content to be current to your level. Otherwise, if you don’t mind everything to gray to you and fast, wait till you get 120 and then go chase the lore
To stop the XP you need to visit a “stealthed” NPC in Stormwind Keep, in a side room to the throne hall
