I would like to start playing this game. But i was wondering what the diffirences are between the healing classes in the long run.
I have played Everquest for 22 years, and always mained a Cleric. But as far i can understand from the MEME video i see from WoW it seems a healer in WoW is espected to do everything ?
Where im used to a healer in EQ, only buff, cures and heals from range. Never dps’s. And VERY rarely use aoe stuns on certain raids. (Since there is a dedicated class for mezz and stuns.)
I would prefer starting with the healer type closet to how a cleric works in EQ. Just to make transsion into a new game easier if possible. Is there any ?
I did try out the Evoker (draagon person) for two days to see what it was, but it started out high lvl, so seem like a bad idea. Then i thought i would ask on forum so i dont waste time on something i wont like in lategame.
Also i am from Denmark EU and i was wondering if there is any specific servers for pve with many players from countries near me. In EQ there was a specific server with TONS of people from the Nordic countries etc etc .
I’ll borrow the healer tag from warcraft discord, it’s quite TLDR but covers the basics.
Restoration Druid - Heals using heal-over-time spells, which can take some time to get the hang of. High mobility, and very versatile with all the druid utility, such as a combat res. Preservation Evoker - Can utilise different spell combos to easily adapt to different healing requirements. Can empower casts by charging them. Mid-range healer, with decent mobility and utility options. Starts at level 58. Mistweaver Monk - Good tank and raid healers, high mobility, with very customisable talents. Can use ranged healing abilities, but is melee for dealing damage. Behaves as melee for being targetted by abilities. Holy Paladin - Best at tank/single-target healing, good damage mitigation, with a lot of defensive options (such as personal immunities) that come with playing a paladin. Primarily a melee healer, and brings a lot of damage in addition to heals. Holy Priest - Very standard heal-when-people-get-hurt. Usually considered the easiest if you’re unfamiliar with healing or the game. Discipline Priest - Heals by applying a buff to allies, then damaging enemies. Fun and interesting way to heal, but can be difficult to get the hang of. Can throw out a lot of damage in addition to heals, due to how Atonement works. Restoration Shaman - Good for big aoe heals and saving from deadly damage. Great when the group are stacked up together. Lots of utility outside of healing, such as CC, interrupts, and a self-res.
I have no knowledge of what kind of healer cleric is, only other MMO I’ve ever played has been FFXIV. In Warcraft, majority of the healers are encouraged to use damage spells at the higher group content (Mythic +10 dungeons and mythic raiding) , mistweaver monk and holy paladin are built around that really. Maybe restoration shaman is something that you would be interested in, can be intimidating due the button bloat at first but doesn’t have any forced dps in rotation afaik.
I also do not have any knowledge on high nordic playerbase realm/s. As a FIN myself, I’ve seen finnish players on all realms I been playing on in the 20 years.
Most guilds use english as main language anyway
High HORDE pop realms are; Tarren Mill, Draenor and Kazzak
High ALLIANCE pop realms are; Silvermoon, Ravencrest and Outland
Also like to point out RP realms like Argent Dawn and Defias Brotherhood that are active on both factions.
If you’ll bear with me, I will lay down some context that may be important to you as a newcomer.
I know this is a lot to digest in one lump. Sorry about that. Please ask any follow up questions you may have.
Faction
The Faction you choose is important. Alliance or Horde? If you feel a strong draw towards one or the other, you want to head for realms and guilds where your faction predominates. This is much less important than it was. Cross-faction parties are already here, and and cross-faction and cross-realm guilds are coming in the next expansion, but it is still a factor.
Realm
You should choose a high-population realm where your faction dominates. Again, this is less important than it was, but still relevant. The very largest realms may have lag and some downtime at the rush near the start of an expansion, so if that worries you, you might want to choose the 2nd-6th largest realm for your faction. Here is a list of realms with relative sizes
Denmark
Like Ashurina, I have come across Nordic players EVERYWHERE, so I can’t say that there is a specific realm that they gather on. You will find Nordic guilds on all the major realms. Mostly they speak English anyway, so have the best of both worlds. Here is a list of specifically Danish-speaking guilds recruiting
Levels of Play
An important consideration will be what level you want to play at. This is a matter of skill and commitment. In WoW PvE, Mythic-Plus Dungeons, and Raids are the two main activities where you get high rewards for doing tough content.
Many focused guilds will have set raid nights one, two, or three nights a week. The members of these will also do M+ Dungeons, but the more achievement-oriented people will be doing both. Consider, before joining a guild that plays at this level, what you want your schedule and commitment to look like.
If you just want to foof about and do quests and occasional dungeons and LFR (a queued version of a raid), as about 75% of players do, then any guild will do fine. If you want to climb above that level, find a guild that you can climb with.
Timing
It is the best of times. It is the worst of times.
WoW is currently at the end of an expansion. I think the next expansion is going to drop in about 3 months, but it could be longer. All the main content has been played, and a lot of the playerbase are playing a side-game - Pandaria Remix - rather than pushing M+ keys and raids.
This makes it a great time for you to fill slots in guilds where some of the players are not logging. It’s a terrible time because so few people are doing anything seriously, and because everyone knows alll the fights by now, while you will be seeing them for the first time.
Class
As a healer, I promise that if you stay in the game at all, you will find at least two or three classes that you play. You will prefer one, perhaps, but you will enjoy the others for a change of pace, and you will want them because different healer styles will feel better for different boss encounters.
I don’t know Runescape, but I can say that Holy Priest is the essential core Cleric archetype. People get hurt. You heal them. Simples. Other classes and specs are oriented to healing-by-damaging or preventative healing (though Holy Priest has some of that as well).
But I will refer you to YouTube to educate yourself. Absolutely EVERYTHING in WoW is covered with dozens or hundreds of videos on YouTube, and it’s the best way to see what they’re talking about.
Here are a couple, as an example
Addons
As a healer, you will want to use addons or mouseover macros. This may be unfamiliar to you. If so, check them out.
WoW allows players to modify their UI heavily, and players take full advantage of it, not only placing things around the screen where they best suit you, but also showing useful information. The role this benefits most is Healer, so whatever class you choose, you will want to find a UI combination of addons that you feel comfortable with.
Follower Dungeons
Youe Evoker ought to be able to enter Follower Dungeons. With these, you can do a dungeon with a team of 4 NPCs, just for practice, or toi set up your addons, or to see what the dungeon is like.
If you type I you will get up your queueing interface. Then in Dungeon Finder change Rancom Dragonflight to Follower Dungeons and enter.
You will find youself in a dungeon with your team. You can practice as much as you like. When finished, right-click your portrait and choose Leave Instance and you’ll be right back where you were before you entered.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t work below level 60, so you won’t be able to use it on your Priest.
Button bloat wont be a problem. I needed 4 spell bars (12slots each bar) to hold everything i use daily in EQ. I think maybe 20 out of 40ish skill was used always, rest was for certain situation use or buffs which last very long time at endgame.
But cleric in EQ can do everything healing and cure wise. And then we also have the best buffs for HP , AC and resist. Litterly any situation you can think off where a special version of heal would be needed. we can do it. The class is litterly for healing/buffing survival only.
Doesn matter if it was a small, medium, big or giant heal needed, we have it. Same with single, group only, aoe (any in your range) version for all those type of healing amount.
Heck we can even emergancy heal in less then 1 sec but it cost like 2x or 3x amount of mana if really needed. And we can cure any debuff. Except a few designed to be unremovebal.
If is importent to cast the right version, since the mana cost went up the more healed in 99 % of cases. So its might cost you 3 secound cast time to use giant heal 5k healed, but if there was time enough it would be cheaper to cast 1medium 1 big. and still heal 5k but now cost you 4.5 secounds cast time etc. Also a 10 secound cast time heal was cheaper to cast then a 1.5 secound heal that woudl do 20% healing and the 10 secound did 100% healing (one of those 1% special case heals). So out of all your heals you always hade to choose right one or waste mana and slow group down if med break needed
at max lvl you could unlock a special point system (iam guessing like your talent tree), some was passive bonusses, other was long cool down boost like (your next heal is cast instantly, or dobuled etc etc ) . Other was new skill, one being the aoe (any in range get healed) but long CD.
HI Gráinne !
No thats perfect reply, not too much at all. Thanks alot for your hard work !
I already looked at a few “new player in WOW 2024 tips” videos but cant hurt to watch other more. I love preparing before i actualy start a MMO , especially if i “drop” in suddenly so i dont “piss off” old player when grouping that are “set in there ways”
I dont care to much about race. I proberly would prefer a “we raid sometimes” guild to start.
But i always been in top end guild in Everquest, and i used to be “top 10” out of all server best geared for my class for many years. But with age i have dropped “trying to be the best” attitude to be honest, i dont really care anymore . Not so wierd when i played for 22 years i guess. Im old now haha. Last couple of year have just been for funsies , with those from the same guild i been in for 12 years. We still raided but new content have been lacking for that game until recently for many years. So yea a “we raid sometimes guild” will fit fine now a days.
I have not looked at Addons yet, but some of the video with tips suggested it aswell .
But its something i need to do when i find the “extra” energy. For some reason addons always seem to give me trouple get working haha. but im sure there is video’s for it on youtube.
