DirectX 12 biased?
Anyone got an explanation ?
DirectX 12 biased?
Anyone got an explanation ?
What you are using to get those metrics and what is your framerate for both? (and what is your GPU?).
It’s like I said.
DirectX 11 GPU @ 90-100% Usage. (What it’s supposed to be).
DirectX 12 GPU @ 12-15% Usage. (Maximum, and complete utter joke).
Now, does anyone out there actually have an explanation?
You didn’t tell us what GPU you are using.
You didn’t tell us what tool you are using to measure GPU load.
You didn’t tell us if your FPS changes with each DX setting.
What does it matter which GPU and what kind of measure you are using?
The usuall programs are running in the background during every startup of windows.
The same game is running with the usuall programs in the background.
Hardware supports DirectX 12.
Operating system is updatest to it’s fullest. DirectX version 12 is updated to it’s fullest.
Now, in the end there are two different paths.
Path number 1. DirectX 11 activated instead of 12, (this gives GPU @ 90-100% load)
Path number 2. DirectX 12 activated instead of 11, (this gives GPU @ 12-15% load)
Like I said, I’m starting to believe that DirectX 12 for WoW is biased.
So… is there an actuall real explanation to this?
If the metric is real then you should have a big problem with performance on DX12. If it’s fake then your performance could be fine or even better than DX11.
And some older cards may not support DX12 fully giving weird behavior, especially with stats. Latest gpus may require updates to monitoring software.
Gainward GeForce GTX 1070 Phoenix GS is my GPU and it supports DX12
Bought in 2016. It’s getting old but not that old.
So do you see performance problems with DX12? If not then the metric is bad. I would recommend HwInfo if you want sensor data in the background.
Yes, I have seen a massive performance issue with DX12.
For example. In a raiding instance I gradually drop down from 250fps to 20 fps, and the GPU load is on 1%. I don’t know how to desciribe it perfectly, but it feels like the GPU is not biting at all. But, with DX11 this is not happening at all.
So, that being said. To me, it feels like DX12 is failing on my side, although GPU and the game itself supports it.
Yes but not fully.
The RTX 1000 series only supports DX12_1 and not DX12_2 Ultimate, maybe that is causing the performance issues.
As long as the game is running well with DX11 it doesn’t matter anyways since you are not losing out on any gfx options.
I see. Never knew there was a DX12_1 and DX12_2.
Does this mean WoW is running with DX12_2 ultimate only?
Does this also mean that I most likely have to buy a new GPU ?
I play WoW Classic Era only. I find it very lame that I can’t run the high-end supported version of versions, in a game which becoming very old.
Don’t know. All i can tell you is that older GPUs like my GTX 970 back then were performing worse with DX12 sometimes.
If the game runs fine with DX11, why would you?
Buy a new GPU if you want more FPS (if your CPU is fast enough anyways) and for more demanding games other than WoW.
If your performance in raids and with many players/npcs is bad (Valdrakken too) then it’s your CPU bottlenecking.
Well you have to remember that WoW Classic is using the live 64bit client with all the gfx features like raytraced shadows.
It’s WoW regressions/bugs in quite a few recent instances to drop performance by a lot in some areas or during combat in some areas. You can also check Spires of Ascension from Shadowlands if it happens when you enter the instance, but does not happen when you enter for example Bwomsandi dungeon.
This is somewhat random and there is no reliable fix for it. Generic performance drops can be brute-forced by using strong modern CPUs while those raid regressions for some are unfixable.
WoW does not need 12_2 yet and raytraced shadows are very optional. 1000-series Nvidia should be fine for a long while. Games like WoW must support a very long history of hardware.
Alright.
Appreciate the feedback guys.
Thank you.
