For months the game manifests the following when using DirectX 12: While playing normally, the screen turns black, you can still hear other PC sounds and then you are taken to desktop and you see a crash message for the AMD graphics driver. This is not related to the AMD driver as I have went back and installed very old drivers (clean install) from when the game worked well. This issue started with a WOW update at a point (can’t remember which one) and you are now getting this crash randomly while playing the game, but sadly, very often.
I have tried a lot of things that people suggested and none worked.
The only workarounds I found are to use DirectX 11 (which sucks) or to make some changes so that you make the game run in Vulkan instead of DirectX, however, this is not a great workaround and most of the people won’t know how to do it. The game runs almost as good as it runs with Dx12, but it’s not ideal at all.
A lot of people complain about this issue and there is no fix coming apparently.
This happens to everyone with AMD 7900 XT or XTX graphics card and to others too.
Please fix this. I am using 7900 XT and I want to be able to play the game with Dx 12. That’s the whole reason why I upgraded my PC…
BLIZZARD, please find what you broke and work on a fix. Saw a post on the US forums where this is acknowledged by you, but this was in November. We need a fix…
I’m having the same problems with my new RX 7900 XTX and it just sucks.
I’m about to send these back because I certainly won’t play the game in dx11 when I’ve spent almost 1k on a graphics card.
But these problems probably also exist in various games. When I google the error, I find tons of threads about it.
This started happening in 10.2. The game worked well until 10.2. The 98% render scale option also stopped working properly since 10.2 and it now messes up the FPS (cuts it in half). So no more DX12 and no more crisp image. What did Blizzard do to the game’s settings???
My sub is running out since before expansion if had problems, blizzard has ignored even locked one of my topics, i am not re subbing without proper compensation, i won’t be treated like this, if always known if not been alone, if also always known the game runs fine on linux.
Am i a linux user tho no i run Windows and i expect things to run properly, especially now Microsoft took over.
If had issues with 2 different AMD gpu’s 2 different memory kits 2 different cpu’s
Going thru many test, and the issue always been the game especially on Windows.
Shame on you Blizzard, shame on you.
My sub runs out in 12 days, never will i spend a dime on world of warcraft ever again until i am compensated.
I also remember which is why i went 6900 XT then upgraded to 7900 XTX i also remember having flickering issues with my gtx 1080 that has been reported multiple times by NVIDIA users cos playing wow in dx11 is not really an option even on NVIDIA if you want good framerates, also remember having to delete shader cache every time to avoid flickering at the time.
And then Blizzard patches the game to do shader compiling at startup but have no indication of it happening which confuses users into thinking the game is broken, while they should give an indication like a loading bar at startup that its generating shaders, and honestly it should do that once a day cos its clear shaders get corrupted.
None of the fixes that are described in this thread worked for me.
But i have found a fix. Apparantly amd drivers do not put the TdrDelay and TdrDdiDelay in the windows registry and thus the default value is really low. I put both those values to 60 and since then I have played crash free (one big crash but might be unrelated) for a week. I would recommend not setting it to 60 seconds, when you get a real driver time out you be waiting 60 seconds, heck it can even break driver timeouts and make you freeze permanently so i would not exceed 5 or 10 seconds honestly.
I’m on a 7800XT which I was very much excited about getting, after watching all the reviews in the world, written and in video. None of the reviewers/influencers ever mentioned issues like these. “Just buy AMD! It’s great now! They even fixed their drivers!” or whatever. What’s making me mad, aside from paying so much for an unusable graphics card, is that nobody, from any side is communicating on this. Is it a Blizzard issue? Is it an AMD issue? Is it a Windows issue? Is it user error? Nobody knows for sure. I’ve left like a million different error reports for AMD and I always put my email in the form. Nobody ever sent me a mail, and I’ve been doing this for 3 months now.
Like jesus christ. Is anyone at Blizzard even investigating? Can’t anyone actually reply, maybe let us know they at least care about these massive issues we’re facing, trying to play their game?
EDIT: For whatever reason, after a TDR occurs, it seems my FPS drop drastically until I close and launch the game again. I went from 170 FPS to ~80. It’s weird and I don’t have any idea why would this happen.
It is most likely a combination. The symptom started with Season 3 for me. The driver times out with both my old 5700XT and the latest and greatest 7900XTX.
I opened a ticket with Blizzard, last night. They ‘acknowledged’ it as an AMD driver issue and that I should open a ticket with AMD. It does not seem that Blizzard has an open channel with AMD on this issue and frankly put, I think they don’t really care.
I am trying now the D11/DXVK workaround posted in one of the US forums. Let’s see if that works…
