I tried everything and I can’t fix it, I am unable to play with dx12 as it crashes in boss fights and m+
dx12 is much better than dx11, when I use dx11 I get more fps but it feels lagy and it is not smooth and it doesn’t benefit from G sync and on top of it in raid boss fights I get 20-30 less fps compared to dx12
Legion 7i 2022
i7 12800HX
Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti laptop 150W TGP
32GB DDR5 RAM
Windows 11 pro and it has the latest updates.
I even moved it from a SSD to another SSD and still has the same issue I wonder if it is because of ELVui and addons but it shouldn’t be as this issue has started since the last updates a few months ago…
my friend just bought a brand new pc with 4090 and i9-13900k and he has the same issue in raids and m+ and dungeons in general we get heavy stuttering.
in my case with directx 12 I was able to run the game on high in raids and maintaining a minimum nice smooth 60fps all the time. now with dx11 I get drops to 35-40fps and it feels super laggy and clunky.
It is not really a crash from what I can see when I try to replicate it, it is a huge stutter and a game freeze that lasts for minutes and then I have to swap to dx11 in order to play the game and finish the boss fight in raids. I don’t get any error messages
the game works normally and smooth on dx12 but when I am in a dungeon or raid I get the massive freeze and stutter and it is not just me my friends get it too and they have much better pc specs than me
when I join the raid or dungeon and start hitting the boss the game will freeze for minutes and then stutter and freeze for 2-3min then unfreeze and freeze again all I can do is when I get the unfreeze to quickly swap to dx11
Looks like some sort of WoW bug or Nvidia/Windows problem. Nvidia drivers sometime can conflict with another driver or one of Windows background apps can go crazy and start using 100% CPU or trying to spam GPU with something (check task manager when freezes happen). If task manager isn’t showing any app taking resources then it could be driver conflict - remove Nvidia drivers with DDU, reboot, update other drivers if any (like audio), install Nvidia drivers fresh.
It is a rare but known issue. You can use DDU to clean uninstall your graphic cards driver and re-install. It can solve the issue. A small chance but worth trying.
Since I did the DDU clean uninstall I can run the game in dx12 without any issues and also use a lot of addons, another thing that I learned is to never install the latest graphic card and let windows install it as windows will install the latest stable driver
(Update)
I installed nvidia geforce experience and the latest Nvidia driver and the issue happens again so I think that this is a nvidia issue or a wow issue.
