Disc absorbtion

Anyone overly disappointed by disc’s removal of absorbtion effects?
It’s what made the class so unique imo, especially in pvp. In legion my pvp rotation was to use that sweet instant 6s cd big shield and heal up with atonement before the shield was broken. My goal was to avoid shadowmend as much as possible. I played all healers and no healer made me feel so unique as disc absorbs did. Its damage also made it quite unique. Now MW monks have more dmg than discs xd. But damage aside, disc always had absorbs, why on earth remove it? It was flawless design in legion

I’m basically talking about pvp, shouldve mentioned that better

Not particularly no. I find this current iteration of Disc to be one of the best we’ve had in a long time. It definitely wasn’t a flawless design in Legion. Having two separate Atonement applicators with Plea and PW:S was rather pointless. I also find that having a greater CD within Rapture is also much nicer to the play of the spec.
The actual absorb component from PW:S is really not that much different from Legion when you compare the actual amount of HP% it absorbs. Then taking into account how Rapture works now, we have actually gained significant Absorption. The only real loss was Clarity of Will.

When do MW have more damage? You need to be more specific. In most cases they don’t.
Disc has always had absorbs indeed, historically they have been far too powerful and oppressive to other classes in the game.

Overall i acctually agree, Disc is currently very nice to play, however I still think some more flavor could be added to the spec. In forms of some changes to our “ordinary” healing spec. and also a form of capitalizing on overhealing.

Some more damage and healing to penance, It’s currently a bit to weak to be our “core” spell so to speak. In PvE it’s rarely usefull to use it as a direct heal and offensively it’s bearly better then smite(mostly due to smite shield). This is probably due to “Castigation” being a talent in the first place.

I whould probably prefer if they changed penance to either have castigation as a core passive or up the damage and healing a bit to compensate, then replace castigation with a talent worth using in that row. Maybe reintroducing Old School Grace:

Your Shadow Mend and penance apply Grace to the target increasing healing done to the target by the priest by 3% stacking up to three times last 15 seconds.

This whould make it more inviting for players who whould want to play a more “Ordinary” healing spec. A change like this whould also allow for some more flexible builds by using contrition and the trait “heal and woe”. Schism whould still be better for burst healing, Twist of fate whould also outshine a talent like this in heavy hit content however “Grace” whould be a good middle ground for less experienced Disc Priests.

Another change I whould probably also like to see are a reintroduction of the old spell, Spirit Shell in a new BfA styled version:

For the next 10 seconds your heals no longer heal, but instead turn into a absorb shield.

This whould allow Disc priests to plan ahead a bit more and whould just add some nice gameplay without being overpowered. Ofcourse it may be abused in top tier mythic raiding when a disc priest already know his heal windows properly… but seriously F-the 1%:ers.

Im not really going to get into talking significant changes to the spec as I don’t see it going far or even really fixing anything.

But this:

There is no way in hell this is not overpowered. Spirit shell was the absolute most overpowered ability available as far as healing is concerned.

There was a cool down back in the day that did that. Instead of healing it would bubble. Can’t remember which expansion though.
Nobody used it.

Yeah, Spirit Shell. But that’s not what I meant. I meant a strong 6s cooldown instant shield and Clarity of Will

Don’t get me wrong, I think disc should’ve remained the bubble master. Nowadays it’s just like a ranger mistweaver, like they were back in mop.

Except that discs always had good absorbs, until bfa

Like the mistweaver was in mop, not disc. I know disc was always bubbling away.

I think what’s missing from the PvP toolkit right now is the old “I’m going to bubble you so I have time to set stuff up before you die” shield. That’s what PWS was in Legion with all the artifact traits, and trinity removing the atonement application from PWS. And that’s what’s missing now.

I’m not sure CoW is a great thing to have return, personally, as having two strong casted “Heals” on two different spell schools could easily become oppressive. But otherwise yes, I do agree that not having that buffer against immediate damage is hurting the BFA playstyle a lot.

Clarity isn’t essential to have back but strong PWS has become kinda iconic. It would be fun however to have talents for absorbs to maybe enable an ‘‘absorb’’ orientated build. Possibly make them honor talents? I’m getting the feeling disc absorbs were more ‘fun’ and popular in pvp than they were in pve

Popping shields on everyone and having all other healers do nothing was fun as hell. And mean. But mostly fun.

Yeah I don’t think this is about going back to that. I’d really REALLY hope not at least.

You’re ruining all the fun.

All the WoD disc fans rerolled Rdruid in Legion.

They can stay there, to be frank. :stuck_out_tongue:

To be fair I have no idea what was when and how. Tbc till now is a lot of time and during that period I mostly played shadow. And that’s another can of worms.

We’ve spoken in detail on shadow before, so I know all about that :stuck_out_tongue:

Disc in WoD generally boiled down to blanket PWS spamming your entire raid 24/7 with little regard for anything else. There was some nuance to it at higher end, and you had CoW spam for tanks too before mechanics, but it was mostly a 1 button max hps spec that “Sniped” everyone elses healing because shields get broken first.

Now I remember why I left in wod. This and shadow’s state.
And garrisons.

And yes, still not happy with shadow. At this point I’m curious what will happen in 8.2.

I miss divine aegis :frowning:

What has this game become seriously :frowning:
