Hi, so I made an alt healer - disc priest (I main resto shaman, got all 20s done, so decided to try out a different healer).
I am still in very early stages (lvl65), but ± I already have all of my abilities.
What I still trying to figure out - how do I cope with high bursty single target healing? I already know that on tyranical weeks there will be hard ticking boss damage, or simply people getting hit for 70% of their HP and then they need quick recovery.
As a resto shaman I would simplu riptide/healing surge and I am g2g.
Now as disc priest - do you:
simply spam flash heal? (Seems very mana inefficient and not to strong)
PW:S and let attonoment work? (I don’t think it would be enough to outheal Snake boss dot in Uld, or 1st boss dot in BH)
penance direct healing?
PW:Life? (if less than 30% HP, though it’s not spammable)
As a rule of thumb, always keep atonement on the tank. With Lenience talent it grants -3% damage reduction passively. Preferably with PWS.
Basically, you only got two ST healing abilities: Penance and Flash Heal. While we want most of our healing to go through atonement, it’s not always possible so Flash Heal spam will be your lifesaver in many situations. You just have to feel it when you need to switch from dpsing to FH spam, not much I can recommend here.
While we mostly want our Penance to be used offensively, you can sometimes instead target your tank with Penance that is buffed with Shadow covenant/Power of the Dark Side, or either+Harsh discipline to top off almost any hp your tank is missing. Critical strike s from Power Word: Life deal an insane amount of healing and it’s generally enough to stabilize tank’s health and instantly switch to dpsing.
Your 4 set grants PW:R an instant cast and you can almost always use 1 instant charge to heal the tank in case you know that no harsh aoe damage is incoming soon.
Don’t forget your two charges of Pain suppression that you need to throw in before the incoming damage, as well as PWB that I noticed many people ignore
In some situations you’ll find yourself using Rapture-FH-PWS-FH-PWS sequence or Rapture PWS spam to help the tank survive. It usually happens when all your other abilities are on cooldown and you know that tank is gonna die before you can finish your FH cast.
Schism+dps rotation is usually enough to counter medium to high-medium damage on all party members, including tank. Tanks are pretty much self-sustainable.
Haste matters, that’s it.
Probably the most important: your tank has to know their sheet. Or else you’re doomed
