Discipline Priest needs some re-work

This will probably generate a lot of “you’re simply not playing right, git gud blah blah blah” responses, but anyhow:
Seeing other heal specs like Resto Shaman and Mistweaver get buffed but not Discipline Priest is kinda disappointing, it needs some tuning to be viable for content like M+.
For instance, it doesn’t have an “oh sh**” button like other classes do and it’s presumed advantage in DPS over other healers is almost non-existent. Theres no real incentive to play Discipline - I can easily push double the HPS on my Resto Druid who has 10 ilvl less while also maintaining almost as much DPS as my Disc while having way more utility… and less mana burn.
I get that Discipline is supposed to be harder to play than other healers but mastering it should be rewarding and come with unique advantages - whereas right now you barely do the bare minimum even when playing it right.

Hi,

Sadly Disco Priests are predictive healers therefore they don’t have a lot of get out of jail abilities when massive haling is required unlike other pure throughput classes and specs.

There is a really good guide somewhere on YouTube for healing Mythics in Dragonflight:

I think Discipline is very viable if not necessary for boss mechanics!

Rapture?

It honestly really is a “learn to play” issue.
Currently Resto druid and Preservation Evoker are God like healers in M+, so to compare to them isnt really the best?
If that was the case we should remove the other healers from the game and just have those two.
Discs single target damage is incredibly strong, i havent found a resto druid to out damage it yet. They DO have an oh Sh** button in the form of power word: life.
Schism > Mind Games > Mind blast … (could even Lights wrath if really needed), will usually top up the team, failing that power word: Death and penance does nicely also as they heal through atonement.

The best thing of all for me is the active playstyle on top of Power infusion. You can use it on an ally and get the benefit yourself. This is INCREDIBLY strong. You also have Rapture, Pain suppression, Power word: Barrier.

Honestly in my opinion this is the best disc has been in a long time and its very rewarding. A lot of other healers are “easier” to use but the playstyle simply isnt for me.

Maybe a rework of talents could help?

And Void Shift, and Power world Life. And PS when you talent to give % hp too.

I don’t know how Disc Priest actually performs, but it definitely has an identity crisis. I picked Priest when I returned for Dragonflight, and the spec has changed alot. I tried all 3 specs and I have no issue healing with Holy or DPS’ing with Shadow, but Disc feels like a confusing incoherent mess to play. And yes, it is partially a skill issue.

Disc has gone from being just a general utility spec, to “the shield healer”, to the “shadow and light” healer, to the “heal with damage healer”. And it seems that at this stage it has elements of all it’s previous identities.

I liked the shield-healer aspect alot because that’s what I played ages ago during Wrath, but I wish they would just commit to one identity of what Disc is supposed to be and commit to that.

We’ve been everything under the sun by now.
It’s time for our “shadowform light” already, since they’re so hellbent on us flirting with the void.

Ngl, I’d be all for it. :eyes:

yep I will only contribute from a PVP pont of view as the oh…sh… button was mentioned. Yesterday a way stronger hunter with 360k life hit on me unprepared I have leveled up 3 days ago to 70 but becasue I am PVP and already had 40% of gear switched the same minute I leveled up  I was not shocked … becasue let´s face it a priest has always 2 rogues and a hunter following them even in stormwind. SO I basically hit painsupression, shield, fear etc… fade, shadowmend to get out and penance heal to full … had to lock back my target and the fight drag on for over a minute where I used the “oh…sh…” button 4 that is the holy word life and pop up form like 5% life to 100% and the hunter must have been like the fk and slowly his life was dropping below 50% and by the tiem he realyzed there is no way to deliver that finishing hit unlecc he would crit for 300% he would fail in his quest and so he play dead and try to runu … my simple embersilk net for 1g (love tailoring for this) … stop his weak effort and a lucky combo of instant cast buffed penance that delivers like 6 hits with another 3 instant cast shining with max crit as mine is 22% already =) I eneded hiim with a 1 click auto casted death to finish his last 100k life with a lovely 60k crit  … … keep in mind my life at max is only 216k … and after he assoulted be I went down to half really quick but even with that I could stay alive. I also have a pvp trinket to cancell cc and lot´s of fear … it was a hrd one but I managed it. In the past I was not afraid of anyone in World PVP and even in BG could handle 2-3 palyers and get our or at least take out 1. Disc is very strong and the cd on life is really short it´s like always available if oyu don´t die in the first 5 seconds. I wish i would have more AOE options/heals becasue the only weakness from my point of view for disc is the main focus on attonement heals which are ok but not enough in PVP and lack of multitarget healing spells if more people are mamaged even shielding them all is damn slow. I would rather have the cd on sheild reduced if cast on new target.

Rapture shields players, even with crystalline reflection adding healing it is not ideally an oh sht button, it is something you want to plan to use. There are other buttons available that work better as oh sht buttons (Power word life is probably the most important one imo.) There are also other ways you can deal with oh sh*t situations, but it comes with playing more defencively which a lot of healers I suppose don’t enjoy as much. Holding a harsh discipline proc on a sketchy pack can mean you can spotheal someone for quite a lot if needed.
