I really like the Newcomer Chat that World of Warcraft added, it’s been a great way to help out new players and the reaction from both guides and newcomers has been amazing. It does have some drawbacks though, and that’s why I decided to create a Discord server to complement the in-game Newcomer Chat.
If you are a new or returning player to the World of Warcraft, you probably have a few questions. The good news is, we have some awesome volunteer guides to help you out.
Some benefits of having this Discord server to complement the in-game Newcomer Chat:
No chat throttling
You can share visual aids and links more easily
No waiting on a forum for responses you need now
Make friends and find other new and returning players to play with
[WIP] Helpful info about the game all in one place

Unfortunately, I’ll be shutting down this server by end of today. Although I thought it would be a neat idea, new players and guides alike have not really been very interested. There were only a very limited number of places I could share an invite, and when doing so in the newcomer chat in-game, more often than not I was met with comments such as “reported for self promotion”, “this is pointless, there’s already reddit and forums” and the odd “good idea, but I don’t think I’ll join”.
Thankfully it seems that newcomers are getting the help they need through the in-game chat and other online communities. To the guides that did join this little server, I appreciate it. To the newcomers and returning players, I hope you enjoy your time in the World of Warcraft!
I’ll still be around the in-game newcomer chat so if you ever get stuck, feel free to reach out.
As suggested by the pop-up, I’ve flagged this thread. I would appreciate it if you could delete it as the link will no longer work going forward. Thank you.
