Of course, neutrality, even if strained in the current time of Azeroth, is 100% viable. True neutrality, on top of that, is 100x better than faux-neutrality where you pretend to be neutral but actually just help one team with non-combative means.
I honestly think that an upside is that there’s a community there that’s roleplaying actively.
A downside for Duskwood however, in my opinion, is that there -always- seems to be a guild holding the Town Hall as their IC. I think that were the NPCs actually alive nobody’d be the flavor of the month Town Hall owner. I think local authorities would have that over someone else that’s not even roleplaying an IC authority figure.
Duskwood has its high and low points; the atmosphere of the zone is great and it has the potential to provide some really good RP. I’ve spent many years RPing in Duskwood since old names like Runehammer and Bane, to Lyrebird and Onyx Association and I still stand by Duskwood as one of my ‘go-to’ areas for a bit of sporadic RP.
The cringe begins when you get ‘’’‘neutrals’’’’ who claim the Grove then begin harbouring criminals stating to Alliance guilds trying to uphold the law (rightly or wrongly) that the Grove belongs to them so Alliance law doesn’t apply leading to attack or conflict. This is not even mentioning when it was a hive of BTEC dragon RP’ers.
Little known fact, the Town Hall is actually druid territory, and only to be inhabited by neutral/Alliance druids.
Are you certain? I thought it was a hub for Legion roleplay…
Thanks for the feedback so far, friends!
I’d like to hear your suggestions regarding how Duskwood RP could be made better and the zone’s potential fully utilized? Like I said, I think that the zone is truly unique and provides quite amazing opportunities for RP, whether it is faction RP or a neutral one.
I also really like the zone, but I don’t think much can be done to improve it and utilize it other than bringing gdrp there. You go do your druid thang, give 'em a taste of what neutrality means, have some fun. Maybe others straighten out and follow in your footsteps.
And maybe not.
That’s all there is to it.
As someone who only RPs in Duskwood…
Good: Lots of fun and people.
Bad: Grove is a no go zone IC for certain races aka Void Elves - You will be stopped at the gate even if your intentions are fine and it’s piss annoying. Also some guy who runs a guild is once more trying to control the zone. Again. Again. … Wouldn’t care but he’s constantly trying to control it and was outed here as a terrible human being :L
And of course there was a meeting between some guilds who were like “I WILL CONTROL THIS PART AND YOU THIS!”
Ok, this shows me that you haven’t roleplayed in Duskwood since forever.
Onyxguard are dead since long. Duskwood currently is in a pretty ok situation.
There is the church guild (I forgot their name) that currently are trying to be Onyxguard 2.0 without the annoying “I stand afk all day at the townshall and don’t react to anything”. They do spars and portray the questionable side pretty well.
The Grove itself is oftenly populated by druids of both Cenarion Circle neutral guys and travelers alike. Though in recent events there has been a huge conflict with the Grove against the church people since they dragged out a troll druid and kill him or something along those lines.
The Hand of Zul is wandering about too and there was recently a massive fight between Darkshire people and them. Was a great experience.
Though on the other hand you had many months ago this weird Duskwood Discord where the GM’s threw a midly A-word hiss because they couldn’t manage to get a clear statement of who owns which part of Duskwood.
Which in itself is already ridicilous but hey, they raged and then everyone left and nobody has heard of any of them since.
Duskwood is pretty thriving with roleplay in every corner. Saphirius or w/e his name is runs around too and is more in the background while the church guys are the prominent “questionable upholders” of justice.
All in all the vibe in Duskwood is brought up pretty well by all these different groups participating. If you ignore the whole OOC stuff behind it.
I am aware, that statement was just referred to a number of house guilds that are (or, at least, were present a week ago), doing the exact same thing.
The zone is unique, I agree. I’d like to roleplay more there. Last time I did, it was interesting, however from an OOC perspective I did disagree with some points.
Alas, a zone is as good as the people who roleplay there in regards of RP. Surprisingly, I had an okay time roleplaying there with a couple of friends which lead into questioning an officer of a church guild as to what they’re doing there and why they were occupying the Town Hall. It was short, fast paced, but it was good.
Perhaps some people there aren’t the best, but I think that if more people went to roleplay there, it could be even better. I assume it’s the past stigma of dragon roleplay that scared people off initially, combined with some other auxiliary things that maybe made it sound off. But, if those could be removed, Duskwood could easily increase in quality.
So, perhaps just maybe, it’d just be good to try to improve the some base of things (the people and the presence of some headcanon I’ve seen, but not recently) - as the branches are already fine (there’s enough roleplay there, and there is roleplay spanning all over the zone), and then it’ll be much better.
I don’t personally think the zone is as bad as people think.
Duskwood can be super immersive as a zone and an amazing place to roleplay in.
I believe the zone, RP-wise, operates in a 50/50. On its best days it is balanced, with atmosphere and vibes overshadowing or even justifying the grittiness of roleplayers…
Sometimes, however, the scale tips. Here’s an example from my days in the field:
My Dwarven companions and I are walking around the paths of Duskwood, looking for poor travellers to rob. Suddenly, we notice a presence stalking us. It is 2 AM in real life and there’s about ten players in the zone. We keep walking for half an hour, with each of us occasionally spotting a druid in cat-form watching us, silently, from behind the bushes and trees. Needless to say, we were terrified.
We go out searching for the dire beast, asking the phantom to reveal itself! “Hark! The beast is coming!” one yells.
When the horrible stalker reveals himself, he leaps onto my dwarf and /licks him. He then emotes “crying” when my Dwarf slashes his sword at him and completely avoids the scenario.
And that’s Duskwood.
Ouch! Though if we disregard that last part, it sounded quite immersive and cool! Going through dark woods, stalking people, while being stalked yourselves. A really great potential for horror atmosphere!
Duskwood has gotten a lot better and more friendly than it was a year ago, luckily the cliques have died thin and the roleplay isn’t just an OOC motivated cesspit.
I’ve been letting everyone in. Just no dirty magic. If a void elf/lock/dh/similar walks past a tree, the tree won’t get corrupted. These other druids are just too dramatic bbz.
Duskwood has now been renamed to Goldwood and is now a troll & tauren only zone.
You aren’t a human “noble” with an apparently large retinue. You can’t have Duskwood… Though Tuskwood works for trolls.
indeed i’m not the a lesser “noble” which is the equivelant of a amani drudge.
You shall be appointed major of tuskwood’s second largest village, the udder town.
Gimme Hornville or Antlerburg!
Duskwood? Can I find my sun there?
