Discussion: Duskwood RP

I don’t think it’s a good argument to say that social roleplay being disrupted by RP-PvP is fine because the social roleplay is most likely not good roleplay. Not only is that a pretty sweeping generalization, it doesn’t even really matter. Events of a larger scale, whether RP-PvP or just a bunch of guilds coming together, is naturally gonna disrupt the social roleplaying scene where it happens, regardless of the perceived quality of said roleplay. Those who stay in the region can choose to go about this in a number of ways; engage in it, ignore it, or make up some excuse to go elsewhere for a while and then come back when the dust settles.

In other words, it wouldn’t be less okay to do this sort of thing in a place like Duskwood if the social roleplaying scene in Duskwood was perceived as being better than it is.

Issue with Duskwood is that it has a bad rep. That doesn’t mean it’s all bad though so try not to brand it all bad. Some RP is great there with amazing people. Just depends who you meet.

It wasnt so much an argument about that disruption is acceptable, but that I find it a little odd for this to raise such a fury on the forums, especially over a zone that has a generally awful reputation.

Certainly. Not everyone you meet there is going to be dreadful, and that can of course and is subjective if you even think that they are. But it is a place bordering on goldshire in terms of well…population, but instead of trollers and erpers(or well, the twillight grove can be a secondary goldshire), a large number of the dedicated duskwood roleplaying scene is-…well, generally bizarre headcanons or concepts often frowned upon. Everything from a generic noble house trying to claim they own all of Darkshire every month, to people roleplaying weird gothic vampires or other concepts that arent in WoW, or atleast not in that way or shape.

I made a post very early in this thread about Duskwood being a bit of a wild west, and thats how I personally think it is, and where its bad rep come from. It’s where the a majority of the people who believe “screw the lore” tend to gather and roleplay out diffrent stereotypes that are often mocked or looked down upon.

Today I learned that military-based RP means RP PvP and that you have to love pressing one ability every 5 seconds if you want to RP a soldier.

I’d love to see Orc raiders mimicking their Blackrock brethren in Redridge and launching raids on Lakeshire using that Swamp of Sorrows/Redridge mountain pass. I RPed that on an Orc with a friend and a small guild back in TBC, I’d adore seeing it happen again.

Duskwood RPers can do their social RP 99% of the year, I don’t think 3 days of Horde raids are going to ruin that, heck they could be immersive and RP out the consequences in their social RP.

Also as has been said a thousand times already these were just meant to be surprise raids, catch the settlements off guard, loot and burn crops, then back off when any major force arrives to oppose us (which did happen, Alliance arrived and pushed us back a bunch).

This was all a spontaneous initiative to capitalise IC on the conflict between Duskwood and the trolls in Stranglethorn.

Who cares if the resident crazies of the Alliance get upset that their second life scenario gets disturbed, I know for a fact that the good Alliance role players appreciate a little fight on their porch

Nope.

I’m pointing out the absurdity of the event. That’s all. I’d be equally incensed if some Alliance guild magicked their way into the barrens to sack and pillage.

i.e. players agreeing to RP with you are good, the rest are crazies?

Did you miss the extensive coverage of the fact that not only is an Alliance raid on the Barrens plausible, it’s already been done?

Did you just ignore Pullo’s posts pointing out that raids by the Alliance on the Barrens and Durotar explicitly happen during BfA? It’s not absurd at all.

Well, no more than the rest of canon anyway.

Refers you to all Pullo’s posts above.

Pullo has already posted that this has actually happened. Done by npcs.

Mission tables do not translate to the full pageantry of war presented in the darkshire raid. Those are spec ops sabotage missions, not invasions.
