Discussion: New PvP System

Hello everyone,

I was thinking about this for a long time. Each time when we have patches incoming, if you are not geared enough and to start with your character grinding Honor, you must join to unbalanced Random Battlegrounds/Arenas. This is really bad experience to have for anyone. You must enter the instance to die basically if you are low geared and you want to earn honor/pvp dailies. It would be nice that it changes so I suggest we go through a system as below one. This is a discussion and you could also share your ideas here.

I believe Blizzard can introduce us below system;
Normal BGs/Arenas → Level Capped Players & only less than average item level of the full honor gear for the content
Heroic BGs/Arenas → Level Capped Players & only higher than average item level of the full honor gear for the content

I also believe that crafted item system for PvP content should be simplified for casual pvp players. Especially legendary equipments require way too much out of game work and we need to spend time on searching guides. It’s very tiring experience to dive into. This is out of game context and I personally would enjoy PvP without having to look into guides to see where the chain starts or what I should do prior to start working on. I don’t tell I am against questing but at least we could have some natural in-game guidance to obtain it except main campaign quests.

This is what Random BG’s should have always been about, people gearing and being able to learn how to play the BG’s and their specs against similar people.

But yeah, would be cool if there was a starter, intermediate and end level version of them.

Starter - Where you don’t even have your Honor set
Intermediate where you do have your Honor set and building towards Conq Set
End - When you’re fully Conq

Too many “But the queue times” people though

Yes, and it should be fun during the progress. Eve if I follow up with the content, anyway I have such not-fun experience for my alt characters.

If you’re a fresh PvP beginner and currently at “level honor 1” you will be then placed in a beginner bracket until level 30. Once you are at that level, you will be facing a more dynamic matchmaking vs stronger and sometimes even coordinated players.

Sadly you will still have to ‘farm or grind’ the honor by participating, doing objectives and winning in the process.

The problem still lies with iLVL. Someone can enter a BG not well geared at honor level 1 and others can enter very well geared indeed via the crafting system and the exchanging honor on mains for honor tokens for alts.

A lot of people will have easy access to crafted items and the Honor tokens due to being longer term players with mains they can use to get them. For new players it’s not quite the same so you can still end up with a fairly large gulf in gear terms even at that honor level.

We can argue that we’ve all had to do it so why shouldn’t they etc but I just think it would encourage more new players to get involved in PVP if there was a better environment for them to practice it.

Don’t forget, majority of these players haven’t touched PvP almost ever, and in order to compete have to start from somewhere, and gradually build up until reaching full honor, then full gladiator. It is a progressive journey, you can’t expect a fresh new player to simply make an character and get fully geared.

Not to mention crafting orders can also be expensive for the new players, so if anyone wants to get involved for the first time, that player will have to accept that there are far stronger individuals but shouldn’t block their progression eitherway, it is simply part of the journey.

Nobody wants people to just be able to jump in and have everything handed to them, just some form of iLVL separation so that new players can actually join a game in crappy gear, without having to face full Glads. Allowing them the opportunity to get BG experience and honor for gear, while allowing them a chance to actually get to into the game a bit rather than just be pure cannon fodder and decide PVP sucks and walk away.

They’d still have to earn their gear like anyone else. Pretty much the way it always used to be before such huge gulfs in iLVL. This also prevents moaning from the other side of the fence when people complain that someone without good gear is on their team.

i dig this, but other things needs to be adressed asw

while having a normal and heroic q with different rewards and “minim” item level is great
some bgs needs to be looked at, or for example seething shore ERASED from the game imo
i wish bliz would look more into bgs to make it more exiting and fair, map/teamwise

one of the problems is teamcomps are random…
if u enter 0-1-9 its already bad very often
0-1-14 is even worse for eots/ab …

another thing is teamcomps being not the same for both teams
while often the game is set in a way u get same comps, sometimes it doesn’t happen, specially if the healers didn’t enter, they fill with a dps, and some bgs start with 1 healer vs 3 + 1 tank and that ain’t even a game…

some bgs like wintergrasp needs literal tuning to make it more than just the 1 big teamfight at sunken
gates and demos should have both more hp, to make any sense in “defending the gate” or “defending the demos” same for tower rockets and maybe accordingly take longer to repair…

same for IoC hangar reign right now, and its just 1 big teamfight and 90% of the time its over, because if u lose the tf, its unlikely u come back, and even if u can people know its unlikely so they often just leave the bg

not many want to go through capping refinery quarry and turtlre for 45minutes if not more just to maybe still lose

blizzard should also do something about “entering a battleground thats 30 seconds away from being over”

punishing leavers is something that often doesn’t work, what about rewarding ppl for staying even if its most likely a defeat, or some achivements tied to comebacks… damn i wish they would look more into stuff like this

gear item level gap is a huge issue too, gearing is fairly easy and fast, but once the gap exists the matches can become pretty one sided

personally id like the game to have a “im learning the game bg” and a “i am ready to try real pvp” bg and finally a “ranked bg” where you can really push your limits

im not too worried about “queue timers”

if the game is good, queue timers are never rly a problem, queue timers are long because games are frustrating and people don’t wanna play very often

but spreading the community on infinite versions of the game, hc, sod, wotlk, cata, plunder, rmx, and infinite diff brackets on retail could potentially be an issue

even tho i do believe wow is still the best game ever and can easily peak again in subs, first and foremost they need to get players happy, somehow, if players are happy, that sall advertisment to new players

the veteran program was another botched idea that didn’t work, but we have content creators (and im not saying this because i am one) who willingly explain the game and everything newbies want on twitch and youtube often… im glad every now and then they give those a little bone or something

damn i really wish i could do more forr this game than just forum posts and talk on my stream… there is a million and 1 things to do with the game
why honor level rewards stops at 500?
why there is no hks achivement above 250.000 since cataclysm indtroduced it
why honor is capped at 15 and becomes just a way to grind some extra golds if not send to alts, why not have it uncapped and sell mount for 100k honor example…
same for bloody tokens, mounts/mogs there too, im not saying to DEIGN new mounts and things, the one we have are already okay, why not a black market container for example…

i often find myself typing some of these things on txt files that eventually i want to put all in a big post where i talk about the situation of wow pvp in general and see how people feel about some of these, and what could be discussed just pretending that it gets passed

bah, 4:30 am time to sleep.

Yeah, and many people have put much effort into forum posts already. Some great ideas that could work in practice too. There are so many flaws around WoW PvP on so many levels… For years… decades almost…
But PvP is just the little, unloved brother of PvE in this game, changes and class-balance will always be PvE-focused and their consequences on PvP are secondary, which makes balancing classes/specs so difficult. Sadly, even beyond that, devs have done very little to improve the PvP experience (especially for new players).
Most of us keep playing PvP in this game just because we are used to… For my part, I hope that Delves will give me a reason to keep my Sub up :dracthyr_a1:

I think thanks to Dragonflight overall, the playerbase has many endgames and focuses than ever before, like one youtuber who was highlighting the blitz in general, it has offered a dynamic approach in PvP and all the contents that World of Warcraft has to offer and I think it is incentivising new players to partake in their desired content.

For instance for PvP players you got two modes, Battlegrounds and Arenas. As a Battleground player you learn the game by participating the normal & Epic Battleground to learn and understand how objectives work and what tool kits does your class and spec has to offer to turn the tables, once that is done you jump in to the blitz mode, you get a taste of what rated is all about, and eventually once achieved your “personal goals” in that mode and then partake in the real stuff where you play the Rated Battleground and face even stronger opponent.

And same with the arena mode, you learn from Skirmishes to solo shuffle and onto the 2vs2/3vs3

Now, what this game need is more attention in the PvP side, new Battlegrounds and Epics Maps, maybe even a redesigned World PvP mode with additional rewards and even titles & cosmetics and perhaps a rework on the unrated Battlegrounds with a better matchmaking or an “MMR of some sorts” to better improve the quality of a match. (Just thinking outloud). But we’ll see what this company has planned for future patches in this TWW and onwards.

Overall I’ve enjoyed PvP and pretty content with the new mode which I can’t wait to dig in into the next season. Hopefully majority of the playerbase could say the same.

I would argue that pvp should have standardized ilevel gear that we can just select out of a vendor for some small amount of gold. This way everyone would have a fair shot at PvP instead of having to grind honor then grind conquest which is tedious and very frustrating just to get started on PvP.

I recently started PvPing myself and I almost gave up because of the grind. It takes days to get full honor gear when you only have a couple hours a day to play. And it takes weeks if not months to get full conquest gear. I think this is extremely unnecessary and just discourages people to get into PvP.

Make PvP gear easily accessible, standarzided, only usable in BGs / Arenas and completely useless for PvE then we will see more people getting into PvP.

if gearing was easy, the situation would prob be the same

just more people rolling another class specially fotm and complaining they have to gear that up too

then we get full gear on all classes system

ppl complain they hhave to level or that too many ppl fotm

can’t solve them all, i feel like, if u play from when season starts and keep up at it, even 2 hrs a day u r gonna be fine

if u take breaks, its fair that u fall behind
the real issue, is the gap between nongeared and fully geared that feels massive right now.

back in pandaria they “solved this” by giving everyone 65% resilience

but it wasn’t even as bad as it is now
