Discussion: What actually causes night warrior eyes as per Q&A info

While I didnt watch the actual Q&A so im a bit at the mercy of Wowheads recap of the key points. Wowhead put one of the bits of info we got as follows:

“All the Night Elves have dark eyes when fighting for the Dark Side of Elune because of Tyrande.”

This makes me wonder if the eyes is something that automatically appears on any Night Elf fighting in Darkshore. But fades again when they leave. Or if instead its tied to them dedicating themselves to Elune as warriors somewhat akin to perhaps Paladins dedicating themselves to the light (Bit of a stretch but I couldnt think of any other way to phrase my thoughts)

I think it’s only for nelfs that dedicated themselves, as we can see some nelfs in warfront wihout the eyes.

One would need to complete the ritual to obtain the eyes i think.

The way I see it, it’s a blessing from the Night Warrior (Tyrande) that she gives to all that wish to claim vengeance against the Horde, so as long as they are determined to crush the reds, it stays. Or it’s permanent. Really, one of those two would have to be it.

It does seem to make a bit more sense that its tied to dedication rather than presence in Darkshore. It can often be hard to tell with how lore from books/dev statements can conflict with actual ingame events.

Really, my main curiosity is about what it actually does. Is it just a mark? Is it an enhancement? Does it give a nelf special moon abilities? We know nothing.

We have no idea no. My own speculation is that it might just give a slight power boost to strength, agility. Perhaps enhancing their already natural stealth abilities.

Might give them a lesser version of Tyrande’s -need- to exact vengeance.

It’s a bit weird that they kept it vague considering they should know the answers to this right, be able to say with somewhat certainty that this is how it should be. If it’s permanent or not, what it actually does and so on. It’s a blessing yes, it’s a boon of Elune by extension Tyrande, yes.

How long? What does it do? etc

I would’ve loved to have had some more elaborate explanation but im not surprised we didnt. It seems to be a bit of a theme with Blizz for most lore over the duration of Warcrafts existance. But this particular thing should be particularly important to elaborate further on.

In the end I just hope the community comes around to agreeing on a general idea of how it works and what it does. Even if I prefer not going too wild with the headcanon.

From what I’ve seen so far, there’s a general agreement that it’s a blessing given by Tyrande that does a bit of overall enhancement, and that it’s very silly to stand around in Stormwind with it.

So, seems that a general concencus is realistic at least.

I don’t see the problem with people being elsewhere using them, militants are spread after all, not everyone will be on the front line at the end of the day.

I’ve just viewed it as a blessing passed down onto the player through the essence that has been granted by Elune on Tyrande personally, something that only one or two of my characters would take.

This doesn’t gel with models in game - Thisalee and Jarod are both in darkshore with normal eyes, and there are a bunch of NElves in Boralus black eyes.

I think that, while you’re on a massive crusade of vengeance powered by the ultimate power of your god and being blessed by said god, it’s reasonable to assume that you stay at or very close to the frontlines.

Or rather, it’s unreasonable to assume otherwise.

I did consider that aswell yeah. Main reason I made that speculation to begin with was mostly chalked up to Blizz previously having been inconsistent with lore and ingame representation of said lore.

It is a good indictation that it isnt tied to Darkshore though yeah. Especially if there’s black eyed Nelves in Boralus. I wasnt aware of that.

They’re on the docks hanging around the ship. If memory serves me right there are also black eye nelves participating in the incursions on zandalar (nazmir was where I remember them, I think?)

which as a sidenote really pulls the wind out of the “THE NIGHT ELVES WILL GO IT ALONE” plotpoint, Blizzard.

It’s why my night elf that hasn’t it hasn’t shifted out of Darkshore/Ashenvale, but it’s fair to assume that they might be using it in other players at least I think so. Just for example to get revenge on that Orc who started the flames on their own home out in Ashenvale for example, who knows?

Funny thing to note, apparently the night elves in Boralus lose their height too as well as gaining black eyes.

It kinda does yeah, I wasnt aware the NPC’s were so spread out. Im not too surprised though. We’ve had quite a few odd things happen in BfA, question is whether to chalk it up to Blizz errors and just ignore it or use it as further source material to base speculations on.

I would say it has to do with what the resolve of the Night elf is. If they are not warped up in the vengeance they still probably revere Elune in her Moonlight aspect and thus have the regular white eyes as they are still infused with that power.

Once they follow Tyrande and the vengeance is in their hearts they probably themselves invoke the powers of Elune in her dark state and become infused with such. Hence the Black eyes.

Tyrande had to complete the ritual to become the Avatar of Vengance to sort of unlock the potencial for the other elves.

I do not believe that one has to be in Darkshore for it to appear but since it is a retribution for burning of Teldrassil and genocide of the Kaldorei I imagine it would be present at the Kaldorei who actively fight somewhere with the Horde - be it Darkshore, Kul Tiras or Zandalar - why I think that parading with it in casual clothes in Stormwind as some of the city elves want to do is a bit meh.

It sort of ties to the whole infusion thing like with other races. Blood elves and Draenei who become fully devoted/infused with the Light gain golden eyes same the Kaldorei who become fully devoted to vengance and Elune’s Wrath have the black eyes.

For the abilities I would say it has to have some effect, probably in their affinity for the shadows and moon magic. Less than Tyrande can do I would wager but still probably more powerful stealth, shadowmeld, dark moonfire, possibly better physical stats such as agility or strength.

And Mordent, Malfurion, Maiev and her Wardens etc!

Kaldorei height has been inconsistence for ages now… Tyrande in the Nighthold is the smallest hero in the line there. Even Vereesa is bigger then her… so yea…

As inconsistent as the writing, it was just a funny thing to me.
