Display driver crashes when alt tabbing

I’ve now for the third time in a week had an issue where if I alt-tab out of WoW, the entire PC hangs for a few seconds and according to Event Monitor both the display driver (Nvidia GPU) and explorer.exe crashes (pretty sure the display driver crashes and that’s what crashes explorer.exe.

I updated to the latest driver yesterday and it’s happened twice today, so it happens on at least the latest two drivers. WoW is the only game in which it happens, so I doubt it’s a software or hardware issue.

Do a bug report to feedback hub in windows and a bug report to NVIDIA as this is defiantly windows related or NVIDIA driver related
your drivers are acting funny or Windows is doing something odd.
Make sure you on latest drivers if that does not help check if disabling MPO fixes the issue.

This defiantly reminds me of MPO issues when AMD had these issues.

Alright, thanks. I remember AMD users were complaining about it a while ago, but I haven’t seen any Nvidia users with the same issue. I really hope it’s just something simple and not hardware failure.

Have you updated your chipset drivers from AMD or Intel, depending which system you have? They are easy to forget and sometimes they fix problems like this.

Hardware issue you can fix, software issue requires bandaids and fix from developer, at which point you are mercy of developer, this really sounds like driver / software issue it happens when you alt tab it does not happen if you do not alt tab, its predictable.
Hardware failure or stability issues are random, software issues are consistent
