DK feels super clunky

So i’m back to WoW after a long time and i tried DK again (a class i used to main back in wotlk) and maaan DK feels clunky, most of the times im out of runes and i do nothing waiting for rune CD, that to me does not feel good at all, i remember dk rotation and everything was super smooth with little to no downtime what happened ?
I dont care that all the runes are one type now but i dont understand why dk have to wait around doing nothing while runes come out of cd, every class i tried have a more or less smoth rotation with something to do while stuff are on CD, but dk just waits around, i’m missing something ? What is going on

I’m genuinely curious about the comunity opinion on this so spare me the “get back on wotlk servers then herp herp” comments, i really want to see what people think about this

And yes i know my eng is bad.

Edit : im talking about frost and unholy dk from the perspective of a new player/back to the game after many years

What spec are you playing ?

You should also join Acherus Discord, active DK community, actually there no way you get long downtime , bad gear, Azerith, Essences or maybe a bad playstyle can be the reason

im having a smooth time on unholy weaving DCs for rune regen outside of lust
on frost… i have so many runes i find it hard to dump RP without wasting a few procs
frost has this problem where it generates so much RP that u cant dump it all before runes start geting back up, saddly breath fixes this but its a not flexible playstyle imo

get more gear, i will see a big diference

While I like having a bit of downtime (it allows me to store up some runes for slightly later use, without loss of efficiency), I see what you mean. The biggest downtime I get is on Unholy spec, while on the contrary I struggle to run out of things to use on Blood spec even when I’m actively trying to do just that. Frost spec stands in the middle but it’s the most boring of the 3 specs.

I played DK back in MoP and while you don’t care that the runes are all one type, I think that’s the main thing that hurt the class overall. Rune management was great, you always had something to do but at the same time you had a bit of leverage on the rotation: spending a rune a few seconds late didn’t hurt since there was always a second one charging.
You may think that having all 6 runes be the same would give even more leverage, but not exactly: This makes it extremely difficult to not fall into either extremes of “too much downtime” or “spam fest”: Since you have to be careful that 3 runes are charging at all times, and because runes renew at a very irregular pace, it’s easy to either overcap or fall out of resources. I never had that problem before the runes change.

@Rimian yeah thats what im talking about, old dk felt super smooth , i dont know if it was about rune types or smarted ability design but now is super clunky compared with old dk

And by downtime i mean im out of runes and also runic power, is not huge like 10+ sec or something but there are still times that you wait with nothing to do for maybe 5 sec or maybe a bit more, which in old dk at max you had to wait 1-2 sec, there was always a skill you could use

think u guys need more gear, the ony time i felt downtime was at the start of the expantion.

atm frost as a problem of to many resources and unholy always has a few spells to fill the gaps if needed.

I play unholy and I think you just need better gear.

Haven’t read other replies, but I have no issues with runes or runic power running out.

I think better gear will fix it, and of cause remembering to switch between the two ressources so you don’t overcap. :slight_smile:
