Do you enjoy being the Champion of Azeroth?

WoD was fine with the commander thing imo, it wasn’t that bad lore wise. You command some peons, have somewhat reasonable title fair enough.

Well… Yeah ? Weapons were cool and the “everyone has this unique weapon” has been an issue for a while anyway.

Nope, didn’t rly like the “HERO ! WE NEED YOU !!!” part.

Nope, couldn’t take seriously any quest calling me “CHAMPIOONNN [insert something meaningless to do]”. It does not bring anything positive to the storytelling and just feel forced.

We stopped being nobodies in the middle of vanilla tho. You defeated the firelord, slayed two adult black dragons plotting to take over the world, stopped an old god and defeated kel’thu-freaking-zad. You saved the world, were the hero of the hydraxians and the argent dawn, assisted the bronze dragonflight and pretty much were the direct subordinates of the greatest heroes of your faction.

Didn’t help that you stopped the burning legion in Outland, killed Illidan, stopped Kil’jaeden from overtaking the sunwell, killed a second old god threatening to take over the world and at long last killed the legendary Lich King.

Is that a simple peasant picking up hiw sword to go on an adventure ? You can’t simply go back to a “we’re nothing but irrelevant adventurers” after saving the world what, 30 times ?

Now i’d like to stop having this “you’re the chosen one, the only saviour of mankind ect” storytelling but it’s impossible to go back to your to how you were considered while leveling in Vanilla.

In shadowlands we’ll be called Maw-Walkers, because unlike any resident of the shadowlands we the players can actually go in and out of the maw and represent the only force able to stop the jailer. This was explained as being due to our special link with azeroth, this very link being why the spirit healers do not bring us to the shadowlands and allow us to go back to life.

We won’t be the chosen one this time around, just one among a legion of adventurers taking the fight to the tower of the damned. But we’re not just nobodies either, the players will be a special and superior kind of adventurers which will be highly sought after by the locals.

I think it would work better if they wrote it in a way that would make us one of the champions, not THE champion. So I’m looking forward to that in Shadowlands if that is the case.

Personally not a fan of being Azeroth’s champion either, goes against what my character is about. He doesn’t give a crap about Azeroth or being a hero.

No i hate it when i play RPG games i play either thief character and or mage/warlock/necromancer. Being a God commander of the known universe that has powers which would make even God Emperor of mankind jealous is my first on the list pet peeve about modern wow.

Yes, comming up to the quest giver in heirlooms and greens… hello there Champion of Azeroth.

I think it’s pretty stupid, they all hail you as this big champion but you are just a mere spectator of most of the events that happen ingame, the protagonists are still the major lore figures

I miss being part of an “elite” force

No not really, because it makes no sense. If I’m the “Champion of Azeroth” I shouldn’t need another 19 idiots to help me kill Rastakhan. Or Jaina. Surely?

Our power level is too weak for what the “Champion of Azeroth” is supposed to be. I’d rather be a Commander again. That made more sense.

"OOOOOOIII CHAMPION, AZEROTH NEEDS TEY HELP

I hate it, I want to be a adventurer again without that walking diamond d1ldo in my ears XD

Yes. I earnt my way there. I however do not like the fact that after WoD I was seemingly just the hero of the broken shore, like I’d never been commander. No closure to leaving Draenor. I did not like that after Legion I was just a hero of my faction, from a class leader for both factions, with NO explanation!

What kind of commander goes into the open world to do minor quests like collecting Abu’Gar’s fishing tools instead of managing people and resources. That all was reduced to mission table.

The actual commander was the main guy in our garrison I don’t remember who it was on Alliance but in Horde it was Rokhan.

Still makes more sense than a weak as hell “Champion of Azeroth”.

Hmm a tough question to answer tbh or me atleast. commander in WoD and CoA in BfA feel cringey ,but i did like highlord or whatever your class is in legion. I think i enjoed it because it was a character specific title and not so much that it made me feel special.

I think of our characters along the lines of the ancient heroes of Greek mythology. A Greek hero can be a demi-god, a powerful king or just an especially brave, skilled or cunning warrior. A Greek hero can become a hero by outwitting gods, slaying great beasts, fighting in wars or getting into adventures on the way home.

Like the ancient heroes, our fates are driven by the whims of the Gods, by luck and by the actions of others beyond our control. Unlike the prevailing libertarian Anglo-Saxon idea of “your future is in your own hands”, the ancient Greeks did not feel humans had that much control over their own lives. So it is with our WoW characters. Sometime we just go on adventures and sometimes we are battling mighty foes. We don’t get to decide which.
Such is the life of a Champion.

I don’t mind it. Although I’d like to see some consistency, since going from killing a Titan to helping baby turtles get to the water and killing some random hippos/wasps/random animal that Talanji and Nathanos for some reason considered dangerous foes has been quite immersion-breaking to say the least. I know we lost our artifacts, but still…

That’s why we’re the Chosen One(s). Despite being the mightiest beings in the land, we’re not afraid to roll up our sleeves and pick up poop with our bare hands if it helps the Cause.

I don’t mind the theme, but I, and many others did, take issue with the lazy implementation of it that constituted another building block of the world-of-singlecraft development.
And to see this return in BfA I found even worse because in my opinion the Heart of Azeroth thing is much easier to make work with a whole bunch of champions. Instead the Chamber is full of people who all think they have the one Heart of Azeroth.

Really, Blizzard, what stood in the way of making this actually beautiful and having Mr. Crystal Dwarf hand out one such amulet to every adventurer hero so that we are all a big army working together? That Azeroth itself could only manage to produce one magical amulet connected to its essence is quite lame.

Instead you wrote it in a highly alienating way where people have to go into denial and this basically created an ugly situation where everybody is delusional and appears like an impostor to everybody else.

A cynical expression of our times.
I guess that’s the inevitable nature of MMOc Donald’s.

EDIT: I guess past decisions left little space for retcon. When you are already the ‘supreme commander’, you can’t easily walk back from that and have hundreds of supreme commanders all working together.

I don’t like it.

I try to play allied races as much as possible because, in my head, they don’t have all the accolades if past achievements behind them. They’re just regulars from their newcomer races.

Trust me, you’re not missing out on much.

And yeah, I do enjoy being the Champion of Azeroth.

I don’t feel like much of a Champion to be honest… all I do is pick flowers in Kul Tiras xD

It’s either that, or picking up poop as an Adventurer…

Are you sure you understand what “snowflake” means?

As for the question… ill enjoy it as soon as the npcs and especialy bosses start respect my power. By that i mean when yoi go against some nameless pimp in dungeon which calls you weaklings while you rocking aroud with titanslayer title and stuff like that.
