Do you like demo lock?

Hi guys,

Since destro is almost unplayable I wanna try out demo. Do you think its fun and viable in pvp/pve?

I want to hear your opinion!

Cheers

Its worse than Destro in PvP due to lack of sustained damage and bad "go"es (Tyrant is very unreliable).

PvE wise I personally can’t say anything, i PvE casually.

I dislike not having any instant tag, as Affliction has with Corruption, and Destruction (kinda) has with Conflagrate. I also dislike playing with pets while running around and questing, since it tends to get in the way, and would much prefer grimsac builds.

But it’s decent.

We’d rather you didn’t play demonology

As a main hunter with 2750 score who made an alt warlock currently at 403 ilvl with 2300 :
Rotation is fun, engaging with many procs,a good balance between casts and instants abilities but some thing i really hate :
Implosion skill
This is clunky to use,you need a weak aura to know when to use it,its badly done, your imps have Travel Time, the explosion aoe is ridiculous, terrible Bad ability imo for aoe.give me something simple like rain of fire and i would be happier.
Soul strike should be autocast or out or gcd, what is the point of having a 10s gcd locked skill.
Way too much cd,other classes have like 3-4-5 maximum differents cd,but as demonology?
You need a whole Bar just for them :
Power siphon,vile fiend,demonic strength,grimoire felguard,nether portal,demonic tyrant,soul burn,guillotine and soul strike. This is too much
Defensively the class is fun with a strong toolkit
Mobility is good but difficult to set up ( personnal tp + soulburn makes you immune to slow, strong for some bosses or trashs, yet i never saw warlocks doing that)

Overall it feel easy to play but hard to master with a mandatory weak aura rotation for nether portal and implosion

I find it horrendous to play.

All spells feel underwhelming (even when you burst and DPS is good), walking around with an army of sickly imps is not amusing or impressive and implosion is easily the worst design of spell in the game.

Please give us wotlk/cata/mop demo back…

Atm i like it.
I flows good and i like the fact i run with lots of imps dogs demons around me.
It’s an easy spec and can be fun
For random bg it is good for rated i don’t know

I agree with the instant tag issue, but i don’t understand why people would want GrimSac for a pet class, mage is right over there.

I might be biased though, i love the pet-based gameplay, running around with a truckload of imps, 3 dogs, and a wrathguard is really cool.

I’d like for the Sayaad to be more useful though (Maybe as a glyph, to replace dogs), but that’s just my opinion.

Why is Destro unplayable?
Thing with destruction is that it’s really gear and stats depended. I would only recommend to choose destruction if you’re over 405 ilvl and with BiS gear & stats optimization, then you can really feel how powerful destruction really is, PvE wise.

For PvP I dont have an opinion, havent tried Destro into PvP.

Demonology on the other hand is horrendous to play (FOR ME).
I feel like I need a calculator next to me to play that spec, one slight mistake, hard cast, out of rotation button and then your whole rotation is gone to the wind. WAY too complicated, and imagine I main Affliction.
Demonology gives me anxiety right before every pull, I really dont recommend it for PvE.

For PvP (BG & Open World which I tried) though demonology is quite powerful.

In the end everyone’s opinions are subjective to themselves but some things are facts, like the rotation and margin of error.

I don’t mind the pets existing. I just wish they’d learn their place and stay a few feet behind me at all times, rather than getting up in my business, blocking my camera angles, standing in the way of NPC’s and what have you.

Doesn’t help that the tanky pets are also larger and more obnoxious in form and function than the others.

The whole transition from demon master (tbc/wotlk/cats/mop) to the crazy imp lady/lad with legion (I think? or was the shift in bfa? don’t remember, quit both of them 1 month in) is just ridiculous.

You mean to tell me that ONE person, and a crazed one at that, can control THAT many D E M O N S and live to tell the tale? Yeah, sure…

It would sort of make sense if they got to keep their Illidan form, and tie it to the demon summoning, but then the class fantasy would truly be wack, and the Illidan fanboi class would be pointless.

Honestly, lore wise it makes absolutely no sense. You deal with fel magic so much that you can summon a pit lord but not suffer any demonic transformation and body alteration? Thats pure BS.

There should be another talent below Pit Lord one that says something like "Fel Frenzy: Get overwhelmed from the usage of unstable and chaotic fel energies. " then you turn into that demonic form.

Right?

I mean sure they can play it off by saying Imps are weak, and that’s fine (well, not really) but when you throw in death stalkers, pit lords, succubi and Lord knows what else, you better make it work lore wise.

Honestly, Blizzard would have an easy win by simply turning Tyrant into a shapeshift cooldown rather than a summon. Have it scale off of expiring demons rather than active demons.

Class fantasy would be that you summon a bunch of minions to do your bidding, and when they expire, you collect their souls to take on an increasingly demonic appearance, press the cooldown to transform, go to town, and then transform back to a mortal form once you’ve expended all that harvested power.

I like it. Does it have things I would live to be different/(imp)roved? Sure. As someone else mentioned - implosion can be a bit clunky. Especially when you want to implode some mob that decides to charge out just as you cast implosion and your AOE is gone. But to be fair - implosion is not your main AOE. Felstorm and dogs are.

Next season though - I’m not sure. Loosing the 4-set instant HoG will hurt.

Same goes for the shaman elementals. They get in the way and agro even the friendly beasts or chars.

Speaking from a PVE POV Demo is a decent spec with a few draw backs one being it has horrible single target outside of Nether Portal with pit lord talented.

Pros:
-1min CD profile with grand warlock design.
-Good AOE
-Quicker to setup compared to destro, especially when you bank imps going into next pull
-Good prio damage when using nether portal.

Cons:
-Still requires setup and has ramp to get full dps.
-Low single target without nether portal.
-1st pull of the dungeon is usually low dps as you have no banked imps.
-Struggles to keep up VS burst on demand classes on packs that die very fast (destro is worse though).

I like demo gameplay more for some reason, but some numbers and skills needs to be tweeked, like implosion, is barely used any more unless you go WA crazy or just banking out damage with nothing to keep imps for next pull. But i do like the style , it feels good chain summoning imps :stuck_out_tongue:

Liking demo for PVE the most.
it got good aoe and single Target dps.
on first pull in m+ your doing great dps instant ( guard CD )
Can allways hit big on mob pulls and do atleast decent - good ST in m+
Raid… its different if your Raid isnt full of bad DPS your usually around 5-7th spot but dps wise not far off just a few k.

The flow of the spec just feels more free and reactive.

Demo is dead since Legion Pre Patch
