this. I used to listen to Asmongold clips sometimes (not that I agreed with him but his style could be enjoyable) when he played WoW but luckily he moved on.
some pvp streamers had enjoyable clips for… 5 minutes because once you realize they are just smurfing on low elo it’s just boring. Also their pvp takes are garbage 9/10 times.

I watched a bunch of gold making videos to laugh internally at those clowns who pretty much “join” a gold-making “sects” by buying those bozos’ “guides” for real money or donating to their patreon just to learn tricks revealed in wowhead comments xD (unless there is something behind the paywall but I really doubt it, given the content of their videos… I still remember a guy who tried to “prove” you can, quote, “print monies” in draenor garrison 3 expacs later while literally making garbage pennies in the video but promised great revelations in his paid guides kek).

Then there are some “creators” who try to reiterate all WoW stories and lore but frankly why would I really watch something that is a mess of a writing anyway?

I dont watch raid/M+ streams because that’s entirely pointless.

The only useful WoW content are videos showing you “treasures” or some uh, “achievements” where the “thing” or “entrance” or whatever is super tricky and you kinda wanna see what to do on video (wowhead comments usually suffice but when they don’t , thanks to those silent 3rd world country people uploadingthose clips of every single thing on WoW).

Basically, if I play this game and i dont even like it all that much, why would I even “watch YT content” when i pretty much saw everything in this game, I’m funnier than those people and I barely can justify time I spend on playing.
I’m not Gen Z, i can play the game myself. I dont need to watch ppl. I have friends for discussing hot takes on WoW. I dont really need to listen to YT clowns saying them while yelling.

Watching streams of… the same dungeons and raids I do just with… slightly higher numbers and gear? Uh… why? It’s the time I could be doing my keys. Or arenas.

Literally from WoW content creators only asmongold emerged as a lowkey entertatining albeit offputting person and everyone else is so forgettable that except a few absolutely annoying PVP streamers (xaryu and that rogue friend of his… pikaboo?) I cant even recall all the nicknames.

Side note: occasionally, very rarely, some behind-the-scenes wow content appears… like those videos “exposing” botters, hackers, or Game Master work… those are somewhat interesting as they show something you never see or do yourself but also they are rare and like… how many videos on botters can you watch? 1 to show the problem, maybe 1 with “Witness” testimonies and some other info and then what? Yeah, not a very sustainable compent.

I watch PlatinumWoW for lore videos and I sometime watch exploration channels. I used to watch CarbotAnimations when he did Blizzard content.

The with content creators is like with anything in life, the more vague your title is the more likely you are to just move hot air. Good “content creators” are those that can be categorized. They talk about lore, or explore the game, or they talk about high level stuff in depth or they animate videos or they stream their world first run.

If you want to be like some youtubers, who I won’t name for naming and shaming reasons, where they just use a clickbait title and then they talk for 20 minutes and after those 20 minutes I’ve learned nothing of value about the subject then I’m not interested.

I don’t think the current state of wow content can be blamed on “lazy” content creators. They simply make what people watch. If people wanted to watch epic montages, RP videos or just a group of friends messing around, we would see those videos pop up. But those videos simply don’t do well enough to justify the cost of making them.

In my opinion, when people search for Retail content, they don’t want to be entertained, they want to understand something. So those are the videos that rise up.

I have uploaded many WoW videos on Youtube - raw gameplay, nothing commercial - and f.e. my Mage Tower videos have the same views as my M+10 runs.

However, my most viewed videos (by a long shot) are escort quests and “defend NPC” quests on Classic Hardcore. So if you’re:

I haven’t watched wow videos other than some puzzle solving ones since maybe cata/pandaria.

WoW just isn’t really exciting to watch and i can’t stand most streamers at all. As for other stuff i have never really understood people watching streamers playing games for hours and hours as i rather play those games myself.

I like Xaryu and Savix, very laidback guys, mostly positive and respectfull.

But what I would like to see make more videos is Demetrious Johnson, ex UFC flyweight Champion, very cool and humble dude.

Now he competes only in BJJ and he is a menace

Most of so called content creators are spineless click farmers with no consistency and no actual opinions. They sail in whichever direction wind is currently blowing.

Very true I think it can be the case but needs to be explicitely stated why you swapped for instance you assumed something htat needed to be ther for the system to function the way you thought it would when you praised it, which would have it make sense that it now isnt what you thought it was and has caused you to have been wrong.

Only then do I think a blatant switch can happen and it not feel forced.

too be honest it all depends on blizzard really. If there are new features? new things in the wow game? I wanna watch it and learn as much as possible.

But now? There are no such thing. Its just m+ and raids on repeat. rince and repeat. There is player housing coming up though.

But if I where a WoW youtuber content creator? How many videos could I make about m+ and raiding that everyone hasn’t heard a thousand times before? Before it gets boring to talk about?

All wow content creators have to talk about is new lore. And rince and repeat about new raids and m+ stuff… One does stop caring eventually.

Guides and Metas have no place in an MMO. Anyone who relies on them fully for their progression are holding themselves back personally. The correct answer will always be play what you like.

While the last part is 100% right cause meta only matters for the upper % a meta has a place in an mmo since the meta is nothing more then the statistically best comp you can play.
There will always be a meta as long as there are different classes and specs.

And guides are there for every mmo since the beginning. There where guides in vanilla and there where guides for the MMOs before wow

I enjoy MarcelianOnline and Dalaran Gaming. They’re chill guys and provide good content in an understandable and clear format. The rest I don’t really care.

I used to watch a lot of Asmongold, but i dont like the direction he has taken in recent years. He used to be a genuine guy, with some real takes, but now adays he just jumps on every hate train he sees, to please his audience, and it has all gotten way too political and negative to my taste.
And its not just Asmongold, mainstream gaming in general has become like this, seems to me people love the drama and controversies more than they love playing games.

Lately i have found, that the best gaming community is the Nintendo community, Its a whole different world from pc gaming, and people are so passionate about simply just having fun playing games they love.
Obviously every basket has a rotten apple or two, but overall, the Nintendo community is just chill and wholesome.

That’s the sad part drama and ragebait generates the most views, Asmon is fully leaning into it lately, I personally just purge these kind of drama channels from my algorithm.

As someone who watches him semi regularly the only time he does so is when some one says something none dead stupid or flat out toxic. If he did it to you, you deserved it.
