Thinking of making one. I kinda like the playstyle of a mage, already have one at max level as a blood elf. Never played a hunter to a max level, but thinking of making one either a night elf or a void elf - but it bothers me that all night elf hunters are female, so that’s why I feel like a void elf would perhaps be more accurate for me?
I also would probably rather wear some outfit with legs visible than the outfits mages wear.
Void Elf Hunter definataly make sense. They use the power of the void to tame mad voidtouched creatures and createres that can easily walk through void too.
Mage makes sense but actually not. The thing is, in game and lore there exist Void mages as in mages that use an arcane void magic combination. The problem is, player do not have access to that as mage as just like with the Spellbreaker their abilities get split between already existing classes. For example the Voidbolt, one of the famous void mage spells, is actually at the shadow priest while some other abilities are at the warlock.
So closest to a sensefull Ren’dorei void mage would be from my opinion an arcan mage that is still in training of his void powers and so is still mainly using the spells he learned as a magister.
The void elves all use the void to buff themselves with their racials. As a caster you get no pushback, as a hunter you get a special boogly pet, and everyone gets a voidy form. Yes a shadow priest or sub rogue works best thematically but alleria is the OG velf and neither of those.
Also, there are male nelf hunters!! It is just a modern thing.
The void elves are basically a research expedition (so mages and warlocks, maybe shadow priests too, from a player class perspective) and their protectors/scouts (warriors, hunters and rogues) so both VE mage and hunter are sensible, yeah. You can also see the NPCs around in the rift are clearly mages, hunters and warriors with race-appropriate class names like voidblade for the warriors, as an example.
Both do, Alleria is a Hunter and Umbric a Magister (and they are the leaders of the velves).
Every elf race is famous for its hunters and mages, it’s the two things they revere no matter which one of the four you choose.
For the transmog bit OP, if you make a mage you’ll likely have to stick to robes, there’s only a very few non-robe mogs that actually look decent (a legion PvP set comes to mind mainly). So that leaves hunters, but mail sets are actually the worst from what I’ve both experienced and heard - it’s a wonder I managed to put one good set together for my belf huntress.
Lorewise they have been around for a long time, they were the ones who summoned the burning legion to Azeroth in the first place and the practice was therefore forbidden until Cata. But they are not something new, Illidan himself used to be a mage, then there’s Xavius and Queen Azshara for other examples.
I’d say hunters and druids are the two iconic classes for night elves, usually the female hunter and the male druid, but you can still create a night elf male hunter and it makes sense lorewise, there have always been night elf male hunters in Kaldorei society, they just weren’t in the Sentinel army.
Your night elf hunter could have been a lone wolf that during the the long vigil kept to himself, or perhaps while not part of the Sentinels he still had the wish of aiding his people, or he could have been born pre-sundering when there weren’t such restrictions.
So, Night elf hunters totally make sense.
The Void Elf faction leader is a Hunter The void is just a means to get “extra” power, and you don’t HAVE to be a Shadow Priest for it to fit lore wise.
Of course there are some classes that arguably benefit “more” from the void magic, and Arcane Mage is a VERY good fit. Right after SPriest if you ask me.
