Does Blizzard take action against sites like Overgear?

Hello everyone

I am completely against the entire economy where organised businesses sell everything that is there to be sold ingame.

Wether it’s Gladiator, mythic +15 VIP services or any other item/achievement/service you can imagine.

For me it’s also weird to see that players spent real life currency for things like Mythic +15, where is the joy in that? The joy of trying hard and finally succeeding?

It must be boring to play a game where you bought everything with real money. From the levels, to the achievements, to the epics you wear to the special titles. All fake.

But hey, who am I to judge these people who buy that. I guess after all each to it’s own.

So, out of curiousity, is Blizzard Activision combatting professional businesses like Overgear?

There site, their membership, the way it looks and feel is so professional it’s almost a service from an official gaming company. There is an entire industry behind this.

Do companies ever get shut down or chased by legal actions? Or is that just a game they never can win?

And what if they never can win?

all the raiding guilds esp those that have nzoth mythic on farm that sell boosts sell stuff for rl money. fact

First of all you’re kinda giving free publicity to that site.
Secondly, yes these sites are like registered LLCs, working legally and probably have their own lawyers that keeps them on the safe side. I don’t think blizzard can do anything about it.

Do they charge irl money? Then the answer is yes.

Do they charge gold? Then the answer is no.

There are several boosting communities that are acting professionally. They have to. Its a major point to attract customers. Gallywix and RCU are prime examples. They also severely punish their boosters or contracted guilds if they act/behave out of line.

Ppl should be allowed to spend their earned money for whatever they want. But… I agree. The MMO-Online-Multiplayers games shouldnt allow this crap. The players shouldnt be allowed to buy their gear or other stuff by paying some extra money, just like the multiboxers who ruin the game for others.

I dont get why ppl spend RL money for gear or other stuff in-game… Isnt the game made for a gaming purposes? Arent you supposed to play the game to get the gear? What do you win if you buy the max gear? You just dont play the game at all, you just buy the M+ gear to show off. Maybe Im wrong, but thats how my damaged brain received it. You pay not to play…

And you know… you`re gonna lose all this shet in the next expansion. Gearing is pointless.

Sorry about the publicity.

If they are registered LLC’s in either North America or Europe, than surely Blizzard can take legal action. They’ve done it a couple of years ago and shut down a couple of businesses.

This one is located in Cyprus. So technically they could chase it.

Perhaps it’s more a problem of mushrooms. You kill one, another one rises up.

I do agree that everyone should be able to spent their money how they feel it. But I truely believe these websites/guilds who are doing this, causes more harm than good to either the MMORPG-genre or the game itself.

There is just no pride or feeling of accomplishment from buying a +15 or getting heroic/mythic kills , none at all , why even play the game if you’re going to do that ? Sure you will get things for free and then what ?

Exactly my point.

The difference between an LLC and the companies Blizzard have shut down is the LLC’s will have business lawyers who have thrashed out with their clients what they can and can’t do with Blizzard business lawyers.

Blizzard like any company with good business sense, will be very protective of it’s product. If these companies are still active, chances are that Blizzard can’t do anything legally. And if they DID do something, they would be the defendant in a lawsuit. Not the plaintiff.

I don’t know any precedent, you’re probably thinking of Honorbuddy but that was different, it was a 3rd party softwere that messed with their game.
These companies are around for years now so i don’t think there is any legal action blizz can take against them and on what grounds.

It was Honorbuddy indeed. And I didn’t knew these companies are around for years. Holy Guacomole.

why else would you spam that 24/7 - for ingame gold? probably not XD

You can buy quite a lot of things with in-game gold. You can buy game time, BoEs - and in case of some of the WF guilds, you can repay your debts, because you bought a gazillion of EV3 BoEs for your whole raid for 5 million each. You can buy a Long Boi, gear up your alts, or just stock up for Shadowlands and spend it the first week the new raid opens to buy the latest Thing That Gets You a World First.

They’re not selling actual items, but their time and potential tuition of WoW. That’s not something they can really be punished for, as much as we don’t like it.
As good as Blizz’s lawyers are, I don’t think there’s any way to cope with sites like that.

No. blizzard doesn’t care.

People sell boosts for every single end game activity. They spam in trade chat, normal chat, they yell. They even create groups in LFG for the sake of advertise. These are easily within their power to stop and yet they’re not doing anything, because they earn token money from it.

And you think they’ll actually put any efforts into stopping websites that sell boost? That would mean they have to pay for lawyers and make cases and it’s nothing but trouble for them.

i’ve seen some of these websites too. With boosts being around 80~90$.
If someone’s stupid enough to pay that much for an achievement in a game, let them.
