Does Blizzard tolerate players buying gold for real money now?

Hello there.

I saw a post from Blizzard Employee Vrakthris Vrakthris, where he/she writes the folliwing:
“Note: Any trade for real world currency is always against policy and may result in the suspension or closure of the involved accounts.”

This made me think of when the raid leader i Method back in the last raid tier in the previous expansion, bought enormous amounts of gold for real life money. He bought them from the Gallywix Community, which he admitted.

The method ex-method player nor other players involved got punished…

So back to Vrakthris’ note in his post… “Any trade for real world currency is ALWAYS against policy”, I would think the involved parties should get a penalty?

I mean since they bought MILLIONS of gold, and didnt not get punished… can I buy a million or hundred thousand gold without getting punished? seems fair? The involved people are mainstream players in the wow community. How come they dont get punished?

Is it just me that finds this odd? Should be a clear punishment for the involved players buying gold?

One rule for me, another for them.

Method is too intertwined with WoW’s e-sports for them to want to punish any of them.

Didnt her get banned and just get a new account ?

Blizzard

After performing a thorough investigation, we’ve identified that the Gallywix boosting organization has been taking part in gold selling for real money. Real money trading – also known as RMT – is a serious violation of our End-User License Agreement and is not tolerated, therefore we’ve begun taking action and have banned accounts in North America and Europe that were associated with this group and taking part in the real money trading transactions.

These actions have primarily targeted the Gallywix organization so far, but our investigations are ongoing and additional accounts involved with running this organization may be banned in the future.

Going forward, accounts may receive actions if they are found to be involved in future transactions with Gallywix or are actively advertising it.

Thank you for your understanding…

Its the “Echo” raid leader former Method player .

yeh but at the time of this whole Gallywix thing he was with Method, and it was Method that paid real money to them.

Essentially yeh, blizzard banned Gallywix members they confirmed was involved with RMT and just turned a blind eye to Scripe and Method because e-sports and their notoriety at the time and just hoped people would forget about it.
I kicked up a massive storm about this almost insulting hypocrisy to the player base when it happened.
It’s amazing to me the favouritism blizzard has for well known streamers. Sometimes they’ll choose to slap a streamer on the wrists for doing wrong, other times they’ll just go /shrug and brush it under the carpet.

There was two party’s involved in the trading of in game currency for real life money which is against the ToS. Only one party was punished. So we can take from this if you sell gold you’ll get banned, if you buy gold you’re fine and get off scott free. Obviously this is not the case, but it’s the impression blizzard gave off.
