I am only lvl 34 and Omen of Clarity helps but doesn’t proc enough for me not to be constantly energy starved.
Does this get better at higher level? I know there is the lvl 50 talent Moment of Clarity which increases the proc chance and your energy but I was hoping to go with Blood Talons.
Right now, I can get one rake, shred and rip in and I have to wait about 3 -5 seconds before I can shred again. PvP is a no and dungeons feels bad. I hope it gets better but I can’t see anything in the spell book that improved regen…
I’ve only recently gotten into Feral after maining Rogue for a while and I can tell you from my experience that energy starvation seems to be a problem with the spec. Other more experienced Ferals might have better advice but the LvL 40 talent Soul of the Forest should help you somewhat. I found with low level PvP to talent around Ferocious Bite w/ Sabretooth/Ferocious Wound and just build your combo points for bites, only Rip if you think the fight will last a while.
Also, you may want to leave Thrash out of your opener (PvP) - it doesn’t do enough damage to warrant the energy cost. Thrash is only really useful on high numbers of enemies in AOE or being buffed by some passive effect like conduits etc Keep your chin up though - see how it feels after Soul of the Forest, I’ve mained Rogue for a while but I’m coming over to the Feral side dispite it’s frustrations - having a blast in wPvP and BGs etc at end game.
Do you perform well in PvP? I like to be able to hold my own, as it is right now though I barely do any damage as I can’t get the dps out! What talents do run in the 50 row?
I PvP casually like most things I do on WoW, there’ll be better ferals with better advice on here than me. Here’s what I’ve learned though - use those Predatory Swiftness procs on Regrowths to keep your healing up - and try to maintain Rejuvination if you’re running Resto Affinity. Also, don’t be afraid to pop an Entangling Roots if things are looking bad to reposition or heal and re-engage. One thing I’ve found about Feral is that you’re an escape artist, shift out of slows and roots etc, mass entangle that team and Wild Charge away. I run Feral Frenzy at 50 'cos It reminds me of Marked for Death and allows another quick 5cp bite. You’re looking for burst not rot when you’re PvPing as feral. Hope this helps.
Any class and any spec will feel different at max level. It gives you a small taste but often isnt near as how it is being maxed. There is also a big difference between things like energy regeneration at the start of a xpack and the end of it.
I would suggest you to use predator so you can use tigers fury often to get that energy regeneration back.
Feral is a methodical spec, not a spammy one. So take your time and chain abilities sensibly. Always use Tigers Fury at 30 or less energy to top you up and take Brutal Slash talent to build cheaper combo points in PvP.
Feral also has a few legendarys that help with energy regen. Theyre not BiS but the fact they exist seems (to me) validate that the spec does have energy regen issues. Saying that, I don’t spend much time in PvP energy starved. Just dont spam abilities and leave thrash out like Akiro said.
Convoke the Spiritis is also a nice ability to use when you dont have energy but obviously that’s an end game thing. Good luck.
What would you recommend for lvl 50 talents? Are all three viable? I prefer the look of Moment of Clarity and Bloodtalons rather than Feral Frenzy. Is there choice? Or are you locked in to one?
Ok, so Feral is all about pooling and spending, you can’t just be spamming abilities as soon as you have the energy for them. Ferocious Bite, for example, does up to 100% increased damage if you cast it at 50 energy, when it only actually costs 25. So really you want to be pooling energy, stacking CPs then spending. Pool, spend, pool, spend.
Soul of the Forest helps a lot with energy management and gives the rotation more fluidity, so Ferals often use this when first starting to learn the spec.
Frenzy is a good talent to take as well, as the CP generation (let alone the bleed) is great to fill in gaps of downtime and keep your damage rolling.
While the guys above are essentially correct in leaving Thrash out, there are certain conduits (I think) that increase bite damage based on how many bleeds you have active, so Thrash would contribute to that. It’s a very specific situation obviously, but worth noting
Your best option really is to have a try with each in the row and find what works for you, what works here may not work there (if that makes sense). Frenzy is great for PVP, the other 2, I only ever use outside of PVP. Bloodtalons is great for the damage boost but it can be a bit awkward and Moment of clarity works nicely, passively for an extra damage boost on single targets and gives you a bit of energy to play with. Bit of a horses for courses type thing.
Yeah personally I wouldn’t go Talons unless you’re trying a heavy bleed build (Necro Covenant, Lunar Inspiration, Talons and possibly Savage Roar for extra 15% on your bleeds). The current burst meta won’t play into the bleed build very well though - You want them juicy bites
But yeah, play around with them, check up on some streamers/tubers (Snupy is dope) and see what feels good. I think Omen is a good place to start while you get the hang of managing your resources and maximising snapshot damage, but you’ll likely want to move to another talent when muscle memory and a good feel for resources kicks in
Feral is atrocious until you get to the last two talent rows. I remember having an absolutely awful time leveling mine. Once you get Predatory Swiftness and access to last two talent rows, you won’t be having many troubles clearing stuff. Energy problems are still existent but you learn to manage it as part of snapshotting mechanic.
