Does the Hunter Starter Pet stay if race is changed?

I found some old threads where players complained that they didn’t get the starter pet when they changed the race of their hunter; I’m actually interested in the opposite phenomenon:

I adore the new falcon recolor the Kul Tiran hunters receive as a starter pet. I’m not entirely sure, though, if I’ll get used to playing as a Kul Tiran as I’m not overly in love with their general animations and cosmetic options.

If I level a Kul Tiran hunter and later change said hunter’s race, will I keep the beautiful falcon?

(Judging from my reading, I’d wager the answer is “yes”, but I’d grately appreciate feedback via blue post or by someone who actually experienced this exact scenario, seeing that I’d be investing both time and monetary means.)

I’ve seen a hunter on the horde running around with the void elf warp stalker, so I’m going to to say yes to that.

(definitely a Horde hunter, they were standing near the portals in zuldazar and were not red, I just don’t remember their race)
