Does the pandaren have a race leader?

who is the leader/king/emperor or whatever of the playable pandaren race ?

Playable pandaren come from a place that indeed has its own rulers of sorts.
But they follow on a rather unique template in the way they are thrusted into the playable cast.

As a Tushui or a Huojin, you’ve basically renounced all your past racial obligations and have devoted yourself to a particular “creed” or cult that fits with your view regarding the world.
In short, you are a freelancer/adventurer that joined with like-minded fellows and created your own “society” of sorts.
And in said regard, your “leader” would be the one said group appoints as representative: Ji or Aysa.

Playable pandaren are NOT from Pandaria.

And about the Pandaren still in Pandaria, in the past it was Emperor Shaohao (funny how the name “Shaohao” contains “Sha”, right? I bet Blizzard totally didn’t do that on purpose ). After Emperor Shaohao disappeared, the power in Pandaria shifted to the authorities of local level (usually the Shado-Pan of Taran Zhu), because with all threats walled off there was no longer a need for an emperor anymore, making Shaohao the last Emperor of Pandaria.

Although, despite being dead, Shaohao became a spirit who is one with the lands of Pandaria and watching over them for more than 10000 years, even still being active and contributing in the healing of the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, so technically one could say that the “unofficial” ruler of the Pandaren in Pandaria is still Shaohao, at least more in a role of watcher and protector rather than a proper Emperor.

Which would make him the first “spirit” ruling living people ( as he’s not exactly undead like Sylvanas), although Loa Vol’jin could soon also become the leader or co-leader (or at the very least, a spiritual figure) of the Darkspears as well, IF he is going to remember his origins and therefore his past involvement as a leader in the politics of the Darkspear tribe and the Horde and IF he still cares about them as well as a Loa :stuck_out_tongue:

So he was the leader of the Pandaren during Azshara’s reign as Queen of the Elves?

I guess it was he who convinced the Pandaren Magi to distance themselves from the Highborne when they started to become reckless with their magical practices.

Yep he foresaw the advent of the legion arriving and put a veil around pandaria, saving it from the destruction that followed.

Actually, Shaohao has nothing to do with Sha. “Sha” means evil in Chinese.

Shaohao was a legendary ruler in Chinese myth. He was one of the “Five Emperors” in Chinese Mythology.

The whole MoP and Pandaren are heavily based on Chinese culture as we all know.

Yes, Emperor Shaohao was the leader of Pandarens. Now the leaders for playable pandaren are: Aysa Cloudsinger (Tushui) and Ji Firepaw (Huojin)

Shaohao was their last emperor. For current Pandaren I would pick Taran-Zhu since he lead the Shado-pan
