Domination sockets vs. item level

This is something I’m still very confused about and would appreciate some clarification.

How low do I go in item level for Domination socketed gear when replacing my 246/252s? I main a Priest and have a few SoD Normal/LFR Domination pieces, but cutting ~30 item levels seems like a lot. My Domination sockets are mostly tier 3 and 4, so not fully maxed out yet. Is it still worth going for the bonus at least?

Also, in terms of M+, how strong are the Domination sockets on their own (w/o the bonus, since it isn’t active in dungeons)?

Thanks!

Just sim your character

Never done it before, can you please elaborate?

Also, does simming work for healers or DPS only?

Simming will work for DPS only, so useless for healers. As I don’t raid I can’t help you with your question either I’m afraid. I do have some (DPS) friends who use 239 raid items over 252 M+ ones simply because the socket boni will outperform the static stat advantage of the higher ilvl items.

just sim it if you’re dps yes. but you never drop your 3 set domination bonus in a raid environment. the power spike is enormous, keep that on always.

the other 2 gems are more up in the air but are generally gonna be worth using too, maybe if the ilvls are really different.
