You mean ones where they call them stupid and other kinds of insults? Really makes you wonder why they get flagged.
I wouldn’t hold my breath on that. Pretty sure blues are not allowed to speak their mind. Not surprising as the smallest misspeak can result in a huge backlash. Any Blizzard stance/opinion goes through a lot of PR review before being made public.
Trelw covers most of that in his post just a few posts up.
Connecting a bunch of low pop realms alone does not fix things. They just diminish again over time which is why we are now in this predicament so they are making smarter connections.
I realise people keep asking the same questions and no matter how much I answer they don’t stop, it is also a very long thread at this point. They can’t exclude a realm from connections because people don’t like it or have a problem with Polish (or insert other nationality) people. I do understand and sympathise that there will be some tensions when connections like this go through and some are being particularly rude in the public channels (which should be reported). Blizzard have to treat realms equally and connect them up, otherwise down the line we just end up with the same problem.
With the exception of Aggra (which was actually what the OP was talking about when they started this discussion) all the other realms are tagged English. I doubt this will be the only realm that has a leaning towards favouring a particular language but that does not mean it can be excluded from realm connections.
I even seem to be getting the blame others get reported. Some things in this thread are flagged and buried before I’ve even seen them. Disagreeing with a post does not qualify it for flagging, breaking the rules does.
I understand some are just angry with things that are happening and are raging at the wrong person. If someone has to resort to petty insults and put downs they really don’t have any point to make. It’s not really helping the discussion. I have ignored most of them because it’s just childish.
It is frustrating having people twist what you say or make stuff up but that’s life.
I did have to report xenophobic views in the other thread and we had some of it in this one again but after being flagged they changed what they said. I am hoping the mods will still take action because that kind of behaviour has no place on the forums. These kinds of attitudes are disappointing.
I have not been wrong but there isn’t really a right and wrong when it comes to opinions. IMO they need to do these connections without bias. They can’t exclude realms because they have on them. Every realm that qualifies need to be connected for the long term benefit of the game.
There are some who twist what I have said or go off on wild rewording jaunts, paraphrasing things I have not said. No one has denied there are issues with some of the connections with unofficial language realms.
The post with a lot of likes in particular has had a busy person or two alt liking but it’s neither here nor there. They clearly feel very strongly and that’s fine.
People are entitled to express their views, their frustrations or even their anger at things they dislike. It would just be a lot better for all if they did it and remained polite towards other posters and dropped all the petty insults.
The main reason for realm connections is so guilds can recruit new members to play with. Now if you connect 2 realms that have 2 very different communities (one being English, other being different language) what you get is that neither community guilds benefit from the connection. English guilds do not get new members, because there are no new people who would like to join such guild, and other language guilds do not recruit English speaking players, because they talk their own language.
This was confirmed by plenty long time members of the bigger realm, who also said that the realm used to have English community, but it was pushed out by their community, so i am afraid this is what will happen to our small English realm, which will be shown as “high” population, but completely dead.
In my opinion such connection will not have any long term benefit to either community of these realms, unless blizzard connects several more low population English realms to balance out the differences (at least 50/50).
Well, my name has now been shared around on Aggra and I am being considered a xenophobe, despite the fact that I literally started out the thread by saying that I have no problem with Portuguese people, and I still don’t.
So at this point I’m questioning my place within the guild, due to me not wanting it associated with xenophobia, and within the game itself because heck if I can be arsed to dig myself out of that one.
I am incredibly, incredibly disappointed, upset, and angry about this. I just didn’t want officially non-English languages connected to officially English languages - nevermind checking the populations themselves.
This has a very high chance of ending 16 years of World of Warcraft.
Had/have the exact same problem with my old post/thread aswell about Al’akir/Burning Legion. I have nothing agens’t Polish people or Poland, but ingame they make it sound like i’m fighting their nation etc. When i’m actually mad at Blizzard for their lack of insight in this merge.
That’s why I called for a bit more caution to use these hefty words.
It’s better to just report these people.
And if one absolutely has to call out xenophobia that they do it with the blatant cases and not just the things that can be construed as such.
Because I feel those words should still have a strong meaning and not how they are diluted these days (mostly thanks to American politics though).
Otherwise you begin witch hunts like some have done to you.
why you shold stop playing for something so trivial??
For years on Crushridge i keept playing in one of the most infamous guild of the server.
People said about us that we sweared aganist god (in Italy is considered worse than saying the N word for example), that we where all scammers (and there where real episode, like one guild members scammed another player for not giving to the second a disguting ozeling and the Gm told him “go f yourself”, that our gm was a goldseller and bought pvp boost for real money (and this where both true).
And despite this and more we kept being one of the best 3 guilds of the server with two 25 man raid team, one in the afternoon and one in the evening
I love the sheer determination and admire your success. I can understand that not everyone wants to face that kind of abuse though. I do hope you reported the offenders, that is not acceptable.
no we did not, we made fool of them especially if this players where playing in guild with lower progress than us. (i personally didnt do it much, but there where others that became famous for it)
For you seems strange but the Italian community, especially when Crushrdge was our main server “eye per eye” was everyone philosophy, that’s one of the reason why we became so infamous when LFD went live.
sometimes i miss that era everything was simplier, if someone poked me i only had to do it harder to him.
On the one hand I deal emotionally well with stress. I can put up with a lot of BS at once.
However, if you give me a long-term or sustained level of stress or anxiety by associating me with something truly nasty and making that stick, then a joker-card comes into play: Epilepsy.
My epilepsy triggers on sustained stress, which of course ironically causes an emotion that feeds into itself.
As a result of this I can only keep things running if everything is orderly and working well around me, and this ceaseless dedication order, room, kindness, and helpfulness is what has made Silverblade what it is.
The thought that it starts to suffer because there’s a lot of people out there calling me xenophobic is not something I’m comfortable with. It’s not so much me being unhappy with being called that, although I am, it’s more about the impact that might have on the guild.
And if I leave the guild, I have no reason to play the game at all. I don’t think BfA has been a good xpack and I have made no secret of that. If you take away my community on top of that I’m gone.
It seems however, so far, that there is significant pushback from people from both inside and outside the guild against the notion that I’m xenophobic, so that rumour is being punched out of existence again slowly - and I’m not even doing anything. Just watching the fireworks. So… so far so good.
the solution is just dont caring.
I honeslty dont understand why you people give all this important to words.
plus we are on the internet, how many players would care of the word another random of the internet? Zero, nada, nulla, na ceppà.
some people are saying that your guild is xenopich? (word that i have discovered today and im 28 old) You play in that guild and you know how it is.
This are just enemies, you can choose to laugh of them and shrug like nothing happened, or to repay them with the same medicine (and i would take this especially if they guild is worse compared to your) if you want them to stop, ez peasy…
@All: I went through some data and I am now trying to shed some light on the situation. Any errors / goofs are solely mine. With that said, here we go.
English normal realms that are on my “must get connected” list: 24, out of which only one is a true single.
Probable potential partners: Maximum of 11, more probably only 7, including the already existing Aggra and Burning Legion groups. If I were to “remove” all options where I know or suspect a single language majority, the number of options drops possibly as low as two. Obviously, two “roots” is nowhere near enough for 24 realms.
Now, here is where it gets very tricky. Exterior data is inaccurate, but some data I looked at suggests that if Blizzard were to use solely the 24 smallest, they might need to construct either 3 groups of 8 or 4 groups of 6. The groups would grow at a rate of one connection per week, which in turn would means it would take at least seven weeks to execute option one and at least five to execute option two… and it would allow for no errors or delays to go that fast. And we would likely have a realm that is a 23-way connection and two more something like 20-ways in option one and even option two would likely create a 19-way connection and three more of 12±ways…
Now, I know we do not yet know when Shadowlands launches, but does anyone reading this thread think it is a great idea for the connection program to last an additional minimum roughly one and a half to two months from now?
So, what is left? What seems to be happening. Use a larger number of “roots”, including those that have larger numbers of less skilled (or as the case may be, less willing) English users. I understand it is not an ideal solution, but I am not looking forward to ending on a 23-way realm, either…
Alternatives of other kinds? Sure, Blizzard could entirely retire realms and pull them permanently offline. Is that likely to happen? I would say that for the time being the answer remains no as it has been for years.
