I just hated BfA since the first day but nowadays is getting worse, whatever I try, I can’t find a way to perform like the other rets of my guild. I’m going on to miss something in the rotation (the awkward boring one we have…)
I tried to stick to icy veins and I also used Hekili but nothing… Any useful idea or hint would be extremely welcome
Have yoy asked your guild mates? It could just be a gear or skill thing.
Well you essentially you use your crusader strike, blade of justice and judgement and then either your aoe or single target.
I read through this when I started playing retribution and it helped me quite a bit
I did it, compared gear and talents… it’s just something wrong i’m doing and actually this game shouldn’t be focused mainly on rotations but more on fight mechanics, like the rest of games.
Rotation is part of the mechanics.
Rotations are kinda part of every game where you deal damage and have some input into your character it is just called different.
Even in Darksouls on Monster Hunter you spam your strongest attack/combo depending on your weapon if you have an opening and otherwise do what you can get away with.
It is all about finding the most efficient way to deal your damage and in wow that means pressing your buttons in the right order.
There’s also a decent addon called SpellFlash - obviously it flashes the spell/ability to use in an optimal order, helped me loads
You could compare your logs to those of your guildies that you are struggling to keep up with.
You can also analyse your logs from raids to see where you can improve. Sites like https://wowanalyzer.com/ can help give you pointers.
Could be that retri pala doesn’t fit you. For example I’m for some reason good with arms warrior, I can manage everything and maximize damage, but outlaw rogue on other hand, just feels so strange, I can do it, but feels like it takes 10x effort.
Guess you could try checking recount to see which of their spells dealt most damage, maybe they’re using divine storm whenever there’s 3+ adds while you stick to templar. Last but not least, check latency, if they cast spells faster than you, they’re naturally doing more damage, it’s also no rarity for spell to fail if you trigger it 0.1s before it’s off gcd.
you have to be kidding right now 1. Divine strom 3 + targets get Empyrean power traits/Light decre for m+ use blood mallet /raid bots read your spellbook and talents then think and practice in lower keys /think about pulls how big and when you use wings etc holding cds for no reason is huge dps lose what you said makes 0 sense and uninstall hekili it is limiting/slows you down .
Find dummy and hit it for hours simple as that i hope you do not click and have everything binded not like rotations were ever hard in wow …
only issue I have with retri is the time I don’t spend playing it, I roam the world in prot spec and mostly tank m+ so I suffer for a wee bit everytime I switch back to retri and spend a few minutes sorting myself out.
I completely changed my setup not long ago so i’m still sorting through that and optimizing it a bit at a time.
Retri right now is capable, but there is a margin of it based on luck/rng where we can suffer a bit from one pull to the next.
Look at the logs of the other retri pala’s see what they are using and how often they are doing it. if the gap is huge it likely is a skill difference or something they are doing you aren’t.
I am not a ret expert anymore, so i used wowanalyzer and looked over your logs to try and figure out what you’re doing wrong.
First off, holy power is important, actually it is probably the most important thing. You wasted 20 holy power on your best grong attempt, and i don’t even know how that happens, but for your champions of light kill it was only 1, so just try to keep it in mind, even in stressful situations i guess.
The thing that both your logs have in common (discarding your 4 dead logs on jadefire) is that you’re not using crusader strike effectively, and you only use 65%-75% of your possible holy power generation from that ability which is a major loss.
I would say you’re running the right talents considering you run 3x light’s decree, but when you run that, avenger’s might become so big, because it lasts for the entire duration of crusade. I would say having at least one empyrean power is good, at least from what i see, but then maybe try getting 1 or 2 avenger’s might, but i know it is not always possible getting the trait combinations we want, so you could also drop a light’s decree for it, so you run 1x EP, 2x LD and 1-2x avenger’s might.
But with that being said, use raidbots or simulationcraft to simm and optimize your character. If you’re not doing it already it can be a huge increase.
You can also try MaxDps addon, retri has simcraft rotation. Which should be technically perfect.
Having said that, gear and cooldown usage plays really important part in your performance.
This is almost certainly the right advice. Side by side log comparisons can go a long way to working out why the other guy does better than you in similar gear.
Also be sure to compare your talent spec to theirs. Sometimes the thing you take because it’s ‘obvious’ doesn’t actually work out best.
I know that main retri doing m+ as prot tanks are needed not like i do not like prot but rather i tank myself than meet some … tank
Don’t rely on just one website. Sometimes icy-veins and wowhead guides are written by same people that also moderate class discords but just to be sure, check what class websites have to say about some stuff aswell. Class websites also analyze everything way harder (graphs, sims, etc). And don’t be shy and ask questions in discord to get feedback on other players feedback. There are no dumb questions.
Like people above suggested, warcraftlogs is an extremely helpful tool to compare your performance to top people.
Also i have no clue what the talent situation is with paladins, but in order to have top performance, i had to swap talents for every boss.
Talent choices matter depending on situation, your playing style and on your Azerite gear. OP, I’m specced for WPvP and sim only a couple of % lower DPS with an ilvl 7.5 lower. If I sim with some of your talent choices, I do noticeably less damage in sims. With 2 x Empyrian power on your Azerite gear you may want to rethink your talent choices so you’re buffing those free attacks for extra cleave damage. Also get your neck level up as quickly as you can - you have some Azerite gear rings still unavailable.
And I agree with looking at lots of different sources. I find Wowhead and Icy Veins do not always agree, and sims may disagree with both depending on your Azerite gear and secondary stats. The makeup of each character has so many variables there is no best setup that applies to everyone. Interestingly, I simmed different gems and enchants on my gear and found extra Haste stops giving a bigger bump in DPS than other secondary stats once Haste reaches a certain level.
