I lose alot of dps when I have to switch to another target in raids. Any suggestions on how I can still maintain my dps when switching to a second target? (Not talking about a fight with a ton of adds)
Try to do it after a fireball fireblast pyroblast combo. This will give you a window of opportunity to switch targets without downtime. Or after a pyroblast pretty much ever, really.
Have the other target on focus if you have trouble being quick enough. I personally just use nameplates though.
Depends on the circumstance. The dps loss is due to ignite. Two things can happen:
Firstly the target you switches too dies quickly therefore you’re not getting value out of your 10sec ignite. In this case don’t switch target, either just let your ignite spread to them if they are close to the boss or let your other dps do it for you if you can.
Secondly, if the add is living longer and is next to the boss the ignite you put on the new target will overwrite the ignite on the boss when it becomes greater thus losing that dmg. In this case you just continue attacking the boss and let your ignite dmg the second target.
Edit: Or did you just mean time taken switching targets?
Hi, thank you for that
So i’ll give an example of mythic ra’den. I do a lot of burst and damage at the start. When the orbs appear, we all need to switch to the orb. The orb does indeed die quickly and so, my dps goes from top to like almost at the bottom
Same with hc carapace. I hit the boss and do a lot of damage, when the small adds/tentacles appear and I switch to them, I notice the other fire mages’ dps going up, but for some reason mine just goes down and I’m not really sure why, not sure what I’m doing wrong
Ra’den you shouldn’t really need to switch to orbs. I always keep an eye on it and switch if it looks like it needs a bit more but there’s usually enough damage on it.
Not sure about carapice, maybe they are using living bomb on adds? I haven’t got to mythic caraprice yet #puglife
O hc carapice, they running kindling? Second combust on boss and spreading to adds.
I use living bomb on hc cara but not sure why my dps goes down instead of up I even have the same talents as the mages who do carapace with me. It annoys me so much that I just end up attacking the boss and let the ignite spread to the adds, instead of actually switching to the adds manually which proves to be better for me. But not sure how to actually maintain this high dps if I manually switch to another add on any boss, not just ra’den or cara, if you understand what I’m trying to say
Vers can give a bit more upfront dmg, living bomb likes crit but seems unlikely it would make too much difference. I try not to change target as much as possible
One more thing. You don’t really switch targets as fire if it’s not necessary. I was thinking in the terms of hivemind where you swap from one boss to another. If adds spawn: you don’t switch to them. Fire does aoe through ignite and your ignite won’t work if you’re switching targets every two seconds. Always go full single target on the boss unless it is absolutely necessary to switch.
When it comes to Carapace, I really like the flamepatch+haste build there. Does such a toooooooooon of damage on these little adds!
But that damage is absolutely wasted. The good thing about fire mage is your ability to do max single target, while also doing really good damage to the things around.
Going for add damage on carapace is just straight padding and not worth your time.
Also flamepatch is garbage, because it requires you to use flamestrike, which is not worth it for aoe if you’re properly geared.
Hey, there’s nothing wrong about padding. It looks nice on the meters at least!
No, it’s not Haste-stacked fire mage can be quite fun, and I am having a great time with it. These flamestrikes and gpies in PvP are so fast!
Sorry i should have been more clear, it’s garbage as in it does no damage compared to mastery stacking and pyroblasting, it is quite fun sure, but not viable.
This is a pvp/pve thing going on. I was in a vision the other day, bl’d on thrall and also got gift of the titans and desync haste up all at once. Fire’s pve rotation craps out at high haste lol couldn’t fit the blasts in the fireball casts!
On Ra’den I think that is because of the time they use their cooldown. On that fight I do not use combustion on pull, but instead wait until there’s four seconds left on the orb spawn timer to font. That way you will have combustion ready to go when the orb adds are spawning, which will greatly help your raid group to not have to cleave that much, while your DPS skyrockets to the moon. Keep in mind that for this to work you either do not need to be on the Vita soaking order, or you need to be on the last spot.
For HC carapace I recommend saving your combustion until there’s 17 seconds left before the tentacle spawns. Ask your tank to move Carapace close to the growths on the tentacle and combust the boss. To an extent it will be padding since your ignite will kill off the small adds, but it will destroy the growths as well, saving the others time to just tunnel the boss instead.
I looked at a log of your’s to see if there is anything else that can be changed. Is the reason of you using Manifesto after combustion ended because of the 20 second cooldown on trinkets after you use Font? If so I recommend either using font at the pull timer (10 second mark) or asking the raid lead to do 20 second pull timers for you. Do you use a macro to click off Manifesto? As far as I recall fire mages do not use the first buff portion of it (critical strike) only the versatility portion, so if you disable the buff once with a macro you instantly get the versatility buff.
Whenever the fight allows you try to find times in the fight encounter where you can maximize the cleaving power of your ignite, even if it means that you do not use combustion right at the start.
Was that a typo and you meant mastery, or is there actually a haste build that spams hardcast pyroblasts just because it can?
was a type woops, yes meant mastery
